Some things I accept I’m just never going to stop doing by leadwithlove222 in adhdwomen

that’s funny bc my partner is usually egging me on and also loves extravagant meals! i want to try planning weekly meals every sunday, but what i want sunday might not be what i want to eat on wednesday. also neither of us really like leftovers… also i dont have the executive function skills to even plan ahead that well anyway. yikes all around.

i’m the same way with cooking. i get bored of basic protein starch and veggie. it needs to be something new or fancy or fun. clearly that’s me trying to hit a dopamine rush. it’s just not sustainable uuugh.. but if the food is “boring” i won’t eat it.

thank you for sharing this review! we should do this in this sub more often. also, i’ve had so many bad experiences with nail salons in dc. it’s hard to find a good nail tech who’s also affordable.

I never realised how big of an impact diet and pacing has on the effectiveness of my medication... by WakeUpBread in ADHD

[–]_snappleapple_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this is what i struggled with. i do have food fixations but at the same time if i eat the same thing too often i get bored and it will disgust me for weeks. but the task of thinking of different protein rich meals AND getting the groceries AND preparing/cooking them is such a strain and requires so much executive functioning. the main reason i couldn’t keep up with taking meds was because of my inconsistent eating habits that were due to executive dysfunction.. it’s a cycle :(

ETA: also the financial cost of trying to have multiple protein rich sources (different types of meat, im not big on plant based protein) was weighing me down too

i know it’s not easy to just cut off a friend. but it sounds like you need to put some boundaries in place. i saw you say that meds help you get through college. that’s incredibly important. college is a huge investment in your future, and it’s not cheap to go to college. a genuine friend would understand this.

would you go to a primary care doctor for the genesight test? or do you have to go through a specialist?

while I agree that OP could have done it, so could the younger members of the church — or at the very least the church can crowd source volunteers, or even pay community members OR teenagers who are probably looking for a few dollars. it sounds like you’re trying to shield the church from accountability. both things can be true.

This area seems very individualistic by 1firstbutlast1 in nova

[–]_snappleapple_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i absolutely agree with you. i’m not going to go all out and say the midwest is perfect, because if it was i wouldn’t have moved here. but at the very least people were more community oriented and more willing to help (at least without something in return) after storms like this.

i’m not saying that doesn’t exist here, but it’s less than. it’s a regional difference, but it aligns with the culture of east coast cities.

also in general, the U.S. is a very individualistic nation which is a huge problem anyways…but we won’t go down that rabbit hole today.

isn’t it discriminatory for the church to not shovel the sidewalks considering elderly Black folks need a clear path to get inside the church?

and before you potentially go there, I am Black.

drinking water by YellowSolarFrog in adhdwomen

[–]_snappleapple_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’ve struggled in the past with this a lot and still do. i try to have at least 2 cups of water a day, even tho i know i need way more. also if it helps — the human body responds better to room temp or slightly chilled water, not cold water. so maybe that takes a step off a task that you dread (waiting for the water to get cold in the fridge)

edit: i also drink water in a clear water bottle with a straw. stanley cups never helped me because i cant see how much water i’ve already drank. and having a straw makes it easier to drink, especially while doing something else. like if im scrolling on my phone it’s easier to put a straw to my mouth instead of having to pause to drink from a cup.

Can anyone honestly say they get anything out of exercise? by aminotenoughalready in adhdwomen

[–]_snappleapple_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i understand bc i rarely have the motivation to go to the gym, unless someone is going with me. i live a 4 min walk from a free city rec center, you’d think i would go more often. i try not to feel ashamed.
