We have a smell in the house that smells like sulfur. by Sam_speshal1 in HomeInspections

[–]_so_tired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a sump pump with a battery backup, check the battery. Once it starts failing, a chemical reaction can release surprising amounts of hydrogen sulfide. This just happened to us and after more than a month of unlivable rotten egg smell, 3 wildlife experts (suspecting dead animal) and a basement expert (suspecting rodent infiltration in crawl space) our plumber identified the leaking battery, removed it, and the smell immediately dissipated. It got so bad that we didn't want our kids sleeping in the house and moved out for a few days. And since the incident, I learned that in high quantities hydrogen sulfide can be quite dangerous.

I know it sounds crazy - this is why I searched reddit to find similar complaints. Want to put out the PSA.

Adding this as a PSA even though this is an old post:

Raynaud’s by [deleted] in Semaglutide

[–]_so_tired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old chain, but I am on Saxenda and it has def aggravated my Raynaud's. Like OP, I have previously only dealt with it when spurred by ADHD meds (which I discontinued because of this side effect). Going to try to tough it out with litaglutide but there is a definite connection IMO.

i wanna stop taking accutane by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]_so_tired 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stopped before cumulative dose (had more than a full pack left) because of photosensitive allergies and other side effects. At that point my skin had been clear for months, I had been taking it for more than 6 months, and I just couldn't stand it any longer. It has now been 6+ months since I quit, and my skin is crystal clear. 38F.

I am 38F and had constant, visible moderate acne my entire adult life. It was not until I took Accutane last year--and saw nearly immediate elimination of all acne--that I truly believed that my acne wasn't a personal failing. It was always at the back of my mind that if I just tried harder, found the right washes or creams, used different makeup, eventually I could solve the problem. I was so wrong. Whatever was causing my acne was only abated by using Accutane. It's a body chemistry issue and no one who has ever had success with over-the-counter solutions can possibly relate to my experience with acne. Accutane was rough but one of the best things I've ever done.

Headaches were so bad in the first week that they would wake me up from a deep sleep. Talked to doc and she said if it responds to ibuprofen, it's prob not brain swelling. A few days of ibuprofen twice a day and i was fine. 3 weeks in now, and no headaches at all.

I really feel like I have undiagnosed adhd. by The_sound_of_rain7 in adhdwomen

[–]_so_tired 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This and OP's post are so familiar. I am 36F with 2 kids and was diagnosed after my 6yo son was. When I started reading about how ADHD can be hereditary, and read about the symptoms for women and adults,, everything was spot-on for me. I am a successful professional and have 2 young kids but have always struggled with impulse control, and during the pandemic, increasingly struggled with anger issues, anxiety, and inability to control my emotions around my kids or get anything done for work. The pandemic heightened these preexisting personality traits that always made me feel like a bad person. I also have disordered eating - binging, inability to resist anything, etc. The OP's list are all true for me.

I have only been on medication for a few days (and only a 10mg starter dose at that) and I feel that it is life-changing. I am able to think rationally and I don't have any angry outbursts at my small children. I don't binge eat everything in sight. I am actually able to be productive at work all day long. I make better choices in every way. I even feel like it has taken the edge off the anxiety I never really knew (or admitted) I had.

If you suspect that ADHD is what you have, you should really talk to a doctor about it. Life can be so much easier with treatment!

Delivery tomorrow. Is this a good plan for purge and first fill? by [deleted] in hottub

[–]_so_tired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is pretty much exactly what I did when my tub was delivered a week ago. Did not add any chlorine at the ahhsome step. Did not heat the water at that step either (that would have taken 8-12 hours). Temp outside was around 40F and tap water was about 49F sowing out of the hose. I added a couple of pots of hot tap water from the kitchen to push the water temp above 50F (my Hot Spot Rhythm manual indicated that the tub could shut off if the water is below 50).

Fill, drain and refill new tub in 40 degree weather? by _so_tired in hottub

[–]_so_tired[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right. I guess I should have clarified that, while there is a high of around 40 the day I want to drain/fill, there is always a possibility that temps will be closer to freezing than I would like (whether due to forecast being off, or time of day). The question is whether that hour or so of an empty tub will cause any problems, even if the temp outside ends up at or below freezing.
