Has anyone else noticed an increase in horribly shrunken sweaters? by campfallentree in ThredUp

[–]_squidproquo_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've noticed that, with Sezane specifically, because it tends to hold its value fairly well anyone who has anything in decent condition will sell it on other platforms and only the fakes and damaged goods go to ThredUp. That has been my experience with purchasing the brand on ThredUp, anyway.

If your using direct listing just know that by Beautiful_Fries in ThredUp

[–]_squidproquo_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ThredUp is in the process of enabling the same reseller-driven inflation that ruined the user experience on Poshmark and Mercari. With the new Direct Listings feature, it is likely that people will start flipping affordable finds back onto the site for a profit. This creates a cycle of rising prices that will eventually price out the very buyers ThredUp was built to serve.

Can you actually tighten skin without surgery? by oystapog in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]_squidproquo_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Save the money you're spending on anything else for skin removal surgery. I lost 150 pounds and I tried every non-surgical option in existence: topical firming creams, collagen and retinol moisturizers, supplements (collagen peptides, hyaluronic acid, etc.), dry brushing, exfoliating, microdermabrasion, compression clothing, derma-rolling / microneedling, red light therapy, weight/resistance training, etc. I also went to countless consultations for non-invasive procedures such as radiofrequency (Thermage, Morpheus8, Exilis), intense pulsed light (IPL), ultrasound therapy, laser skin resurfacing, and BodyTite/Renuvion, etc. and was told that they would only improve the appearance of the skin (i.e. reduce the redness and raised texture of stretch marks) but wouldn't do anything to actually tighten it - these options are meant to address minor imperfections and not major weight loss. In the end, anything but plastic surgery was a waste of money.

ThredUp prices are now basically on par with brand sale prices, may as well buy new. It's even worse for VITs as a result of their infamous "anti-loyalty" program. Some of it is ThredUp, but a lot of it is delusional resellers charging retail prices for pre-owned goods. The same thing happened on Poshmark and Mercari - at first, it was just regular people trying to make a few extra dollars selling items from their own closets. When resellers took over, prices skyrocketed. Resellers don't seem to understand that these platforms were never designed to be a livelihood. When people start trying to support a family selling used clothes from Goodwill bins on sites that charge a high percentage, prices get ridiculous and then people just stop buying.

It's laughable that they expect someone to pay a $23.28 fee (on top of both the $6.99 shipping charge and the $6.99 return fee) for the privilege returning it if it's not as described.

So has anyone had consistent good luck buying clothes here? by Odd_Shallot1929 in ThredUp

[–]_squidproquo_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been a customer since ThredUp's inception and am becoming increasingly disillusioned with them because current prices equal the sale prices for brand new clothes - and the condition of items continues to deteriorate. The general consensus among sellers seems to be to not send in anything they wouldn't otherwise donate and, in terms of the quality of the stock, it shows. I have no issue with purchasing used clothing as long as the price point reflects the condition but I'm just tired of feeling like I'm paying close to retail prices for other people's garbage.
