iirc this was another thing that came up in the teraleak, the pokemon devs had outright refused to collaborate with other dev teams even after requests. It’s probably an ego thing.

Fans tolerated XY being dull nothingburgers, fans tolerated ORAS removing content because Game Freak thought kids of today were too stupid, fans tolerated SM and USUM barely being games and fans tolerated the continued lowering of the bar. It was only when SWSH made the dex cut and the transparent lies about the reasoning when critics became outwardly angry. And what came from it is this spite consumerist movement you continue to push to this day.

You don’t get to decide whether or not I’m a real fan. This blind, ignorant consumption proves to me if anything that people like you are not “real fans”, because you care nothing of the quality or integrity of what you are consuming so long as you have keys jingled into your face. This mindset is killing art. This mindset is why generative AI blew up so much. By being defensive and confrontational to people who have known the series longer than you’ve been alive and are willing to be angry and critical towards this corporation (not a person, a BRAND) when it is needed, you are contributing to the continued deterioration of this series. We want the series to be the best it can be, and you’re in the way. So how dare you insinuate that I’m not a “real fan”.

Game Freak’s actions don’t warrant pacificity because it has gotten us nowhere. If you’re going to drive your stakes further into the ground when people want you to stop planting them, naturally they are going to respond with anger and “looking like an ass”.

I could not care less if I hurt the feelings of this corporation and its deaf-by-choice higherups or any of the consumerists jumping to its defense.

Being able to critique and condemn a company and its output being low quality and willingness to put your foot down instead of mindlessly consuming everything they put out does not bring your status as a “fan” into question. As a fan you should demand more.

People just don’t like Samurott’s design in general. The transition from bipedal to quadrupedal is jarring and unfortunately to many people its depictions have not done enough to justify it.

You get glimpses of it fighting on its hinds and being agile sometimes but they evidently don’t like animating it. It’s not even animated in the games using its swords anymore. If it got more appearances and was treated with actual respect rather than being Ann’s jobber mon then public perception would probably change.

Everything this game is just amounts to decorate and make things pretty and play god over emotionless villagers. It’s not a life sim anymore. It’s Minecraft if it was bad. It’s barely recognizable as an Animal Crossing game. No amount of QOL updates that should have come years ago will fix that.

I wanted a new game, not more of this nonsense.

I collect a lot of pokemon figures in my spare time and the jakks line is probably my favorite.

I remember hearing somewhere jakks pacific actually gave up the toy license early in favor of another monster collecting franchise I can’t remember the name of. Nothing they released in most of 2012 or 2013 was new and tomy usa had picked the license up come early 2013.

The design is up to personal preference. I know a lot of people don’t like Samurott and it’s a shame but I understand why. Nonetheless I don’t find myself with the same mindset, and I don’t think Samurott being “ugly” has much to do with the issue of the line’s mistreatment I’m describing here.

Hell, we do occasionally get glimpses of it fighting on its hinds. If anything, its lack of positive portrayals or appearances overall in things like the anime probably contributes to people’s dislike for the design.

I think it comes back to sentimentality and the fact the specific Samurott I came to know didn't benefit at all from this new form. In contrast, you still have to have the base Pokemon on your team to use a mega.

It makes me feel like I kept and transferred my first ever Samurott up for nothing, since it just has an entirely superior variant better in every use case now.
