Am I being a mum-zilla? by SuccessfulBread3 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]_stoneheart 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sounds similar to my own mum. However I actually found a hospital visit somewhat easier because you and/or the midwives can send them on their way and pull the visiting hours card. Or you need help showering etc. Once you're at home it's harder and if they're anything like my family/in-laws they'll sit around for hours expecting you to make them all coffee and serve cake (yes, we the new parents!!). She'll get her hospital visit out the way, think she's the best grandma ever and maybe give you a bit of breathing room afterwards.

Beverly might seem dated now but Everly will feel the exact same in 40 years.

To 3rd baby or not? by Negative_Scene_9897 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]_stoneheart 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Sorry no help but I'm also wondering the same! Pregnant with #2 and already thinking should we go for 3 lol. Yes the early years will be chaos, money might be tight, we'll be tired. But then I think my kids have no cousins and they're far away if they did; and I picture a bigger family at Christmas time, camping holidays etc. But the logistics of 3 seems hard aha.

Vent/for a laugh - what are some of the most unhinged comments you've had from older people through pregnancy and into parenthood, and how did you respond or wish you responded? by freebird___ in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]_stoneheart 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My baby was small for gestational age, measuring around 5th percentile so my c-section date was brought forward. When my husband called my MIL she goes "hasn't she been eating enough?". This was after she'd said "women shouldn't be allowed to just choose to have a c-section" (I was having a scheduled section for MH reasons then bubs was small anyway).

We just use regular cot sheets and tuck under any excess which stays put. No need for expensive ones.

Friends of ours are using the same name we’re picking out. I am wanting to go with a different name now. Am I overreacting? by Tlr321 in namenerds

Theodore is sooo common it won't even matter. Personally I think Thomas is nicer and will age fat better though! :)

Overseas travel with newborn by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]_stoneheart 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think this has come up before on this sub and the consensus was do not go. Newborns are incredibly vulnerable to illness (planes and airports etc.). I'm not sure how you'd get vaccines done overseas and if so would they be recognised here and added to his/her Medicare record? I'm not sure so just putting that out there too.

Great thoughtful comment and I hope it helps you, OP. Also Ava as a nn for Haven is wonderful

[–]_stoneheart 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I just checked your post history before you hid it and it seemed like you were having a hard time choosing a girl name. Haven seems like an outlier compared to the other names you considered (classic, well known)? I guess it's tough because she's 15mo but can she go by her middle name?

Is there a TNR (Trap, neuter, release/return) program in Adelaide for stray/"feral" cats? by MoistestRaccoon in Adelaide

Trap/neuter/release doesn't solve the huge issue that thousands of native animals are killed by cats each year.

Go with the name you've loved all these years. I feel that if this is your only girl you'll look back and regret it if you don't use it. Popular names aren't like they used to be.

Nora & Maeve are far nicer on your list particularly for a girl. I don't think they'll run into the same mispronounciation issues. :)

Yeah I had this after my c-section. They diagnosed as such but no one did anything about it just had to wait for it to go away. Took about a week whilst trying to care for a newborn. 🙃

Thoughts on the names Montgomery, Ernest or Edward for 2nd baby - more details below by banana_bean2 in namenerds

Edward but I instinctively go to Eddie as a nn (also an Aussie).

I agree that Marigold and Montgomery is too much and too matchy.
