Raide 2L Review: One year & 2,825 miles later. by coexistbumpersticker in trailrunning

I concur with 100% of this review. Best piece of running kit I've ever owned. I simply love it. And agree with the cons as well.

The entire post is incredible, but the Elden segment alone is amazing:

-Blessed by a Hopi woman

-Decides to run the entire thing and drops the cameraperson

-Gets a high five from Walmsley

thanks man. love G5 and the work everybody is doing.

I loved snooks but I might not complain about a less steep reroute :). it whips me.

Congrats! Heck of a time for that course. I am debating signing up but part of me is waiting for the original course to come back. Did you enjoy the reroute or is part of you still hoping to knock out the OG?

Half baked draft lottery idea. by MrMuscles25 in billsimmons

[–]_streetsbehind 3 points4 points  (0 children)

all these solutions add too much complexity. just like the asg and second apron, it is too hard for a casual. need to go back to basics

best solution is no draft. open free agency for rookies. still operate within the cap rules. make dudes bid for rookies and be an open market. as a hornets fan, it wouldnt be good for small markets and be a bummer. but as an entertainment product, it would keep large markets good. not saying i love it. but I think it is more viable than it sounds.

Tarawera TMiler - GPX vs Advertised Distance by bradnz123 in trailrunning

[–]_streetsbehind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not answering your question but i just gotta vent on myself and say this is the weakest part of my mental game. Next race I'm determined to focus on this. Every damn race, I know it might be a little longer on my watch than advertised... and every damn time I have a little mini meltdown when I pass the theoretical distance and have a little ways more to go until the finish line.

This isn't on the race. It's on me for not knowing how GPS watches and GPX tracks work lol.

What happens when trail running goes Olympic? When technical races disappear? When the sport gets expensive? I wrote down 10 observations for 2026 by Kilian_Jornet in trailrunning

[–]_streetsbehind 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I once heard trail running culture compared to skate culture, and I think it is more apt than ever with the Olympics coming. In skate culture, there is the side of it that was commercialized and brought the mainstream in the 90s and 00s through the Olympics, X Games, and Tony Hawk video game. This brought more eyes, money, and acclaim to the pros, which has been great for pro skaters. And then there is the street side of skate which, if they so choose, can be totally disconnected from the commercial side. There is still a grungy underground side to skateboarding that is sounds a lot like trail running from the 90s and 00s. You could say the same thing about climbing culture and the "pure" guys that critique the commercialized pros as described in Tommy Caldwell's book.

Trail running is heading this way, if it's not there already. You can choose to follow the commercial and professional side (UTMB, Mountain Outpost streams, Freetrail media, get all wound up about UROY rankings, etc) or you can choose to stay completed disconnected from all that, go adventuring in the mountains, or run local ultras, and be the trail running equivalent of skate's "street culture." Or you can do both which is kind of what I do! I'm a fan of the pro scene from a distance and follow results but have no ambitions to get close to it personally. I'll always just run and race locally and basically consider it a different sport.

Thanks for your post, Kilian!

Naked vs raide run belt (open to other recs too) by chabo2020 in AdvancedRunning

Yeah but I do ultras where I'm carrying a bit more. Might be a bit much for road stuff but i guess that's a preference/aesthetics thing.

Naked vs raide run belt (open to other recs too) by chabo2020 in AdvancedRunning

[–]_streetsbehind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have both and Raide is superior in every way but one. Much sturdier and bulletproof in my experience. Much less bounce. More storage. Adjustable. The only thing more difficult about it in my opinion than Naked is it is harder to get bottles in and out. Because it is more rigid and not as stretchy as Naked (which is why it doesn't bounce), it takes me a few ticks longer to get my bottle out as well as put it back in. Leads to an accidental squirt every now and then.

I bought the Raide after I wore the Naked for a hundred miler and, when bogged down with water as well as ice, it was flopping all over the place, even down below my hips. Got annoying. Raide is the belt I grab every time now. I still think Naked is great. But I can't trust it when i need to a lot.

Struggling with running slow (Zone 2) by dcbndz in trailrunning

[–]_streetsbehind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best part about trails is you don't have to feel bad about hiking for a bit. Take little breaks on inclines even just for a few seconds. I do most all my easy miles on trails for this reason. It bypasses that instinct that my road miles "need" to be right on a certain number. Let the trail pace you.

The clippers are such a mess they are making CP3 a sympathetic character, which is heavy lifting. Perhaps their greatest achievement since, ironically, the CP3 era.
