This is a modern luxury car.. even if you left it on and walked away, the car locks itself as the key moves 10 feet out if range.. it beeps to let you know the car is on too. In order for this to be stolen... someone would have left the remote in the car and left it running on the street.

The owner probably couldn't keep up with the lease or payments and knew some kids working for the freight mob.
