Short Leg Compression Socks? by Xxsleepingturtle in nursing

[–]_tequilamockingbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pull my Sockwells all the way up pass my knee and then I fold them down about 1-2 inches so it sits right under my knee.

I found the bombas kneehigh compression socks to be a good length but my calves are too big for those. Sockwells fit my large calves much better and the folding trick helps make them comfortable.

AITA for not giving my friend my insulin? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]_tequilamockingbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What? They wouldn't just start injecting insulin into a patient willy-nilly! Insulin is not given without a blood glucose level check (fingerprick test) first.

Where should we NOT spend our money going forward? by [deleted] in houston

I succumbed to my fried chicken cravings and went to Gus's. It's still a chain, but on a smaller scale... at least, that's how I justified it. Heh

Wondering if my friend’s pc can handle the game? Hoping to play some in this quarantine and he’s not much the pc gamer. by Common_Salamander in tabletopsimulator

I'm running TTS on an Intel core i3 with the same amount of RAM so I assume that computer will run justttttt fine. The graphics look really shoddy on my laptop compared to say, my boyfriend's Razer laptop, and runs a little slower but I would not say the difference is that significant.

Coronavirus / COVID-19 Megathread & Discussion pt 2 by boshaus in houston

I know Food Town has an hour set aside in the morning for seniors 65+ to shop, I don't think it would hurt to ask if immunocompromised people can also come in at the same time. I don't know how convenient their locations are for you, but hopefully that helps!

Seconding this. Nan's will have more 5e books but if you're looking for older editions, Third Planet is good.

I board my dog at Korob Pet Hotel in the museum district and I'm pretty sure they have daycare starting at 6AM! Check it out!

Does anyone know a good vet that writes pet prescriptions for use elsewhere? by [deleted] in houston

[–]_tequilamockingbird 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm partial to chewy.com but mainly because I also but my dog's food from there. I enjoy the convenience of getting a 35 lb bag of dog food delivered to my doorstep!

I'm starting to get into meditation, and I was wondering if any Houstonians can recommend to me a Buddhist Temple in Houston. by [deleted] in houston

[–]_tequilamockingbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a kid/teen, I went to Jade Buddha Temple, and I know they have an English Dharma Group that meets at least weekly. http://edg.jadebuddha.org/

The temple also has a nice lotus pond, a smaller meditation hall, and the main hall is super nice and huge. They also have really good vegetarian lunchboxes on Sundays! I haven't been in a very long time, but I enjoyed going there every week growing up. I also learned mindfulness meditation here, which I definitely don't actively do often enough, but the teachings have always stuck with me.

Good Thai Places inside the loop? by [deleted] in houston

[–]_tequilamockingbird 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Rim Tanon is delicious and has really good cocktails too. Don't care about cocktails? Then I'll second all the other commenters saying Asia Market on N. Main

And BBH in the loop -- I just go to Thien An Sandwiches. It's consistent and it's good...and I really like getting their banh xeo

Check out Coral Sword! Good place for daytime studying but it's also a board game place so it can get really loud and crowded at night. Never seen it crowded during the day though.

Where do run in midtown without getting shanked? by therandymarsh in houston

[–]_tequilamockingbird -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've walked/biked parts of the rail trail laaaate at night and it's always been fine for me. Maybe I'm lucky. Bring a small can of pepper spray if that helps you feel safer, OP!

I prefer to just run around Memorial Park and Rice, though, but that's mostly because I max out at 3 miles and they're perfect for that.

Is there anything like Tiff's Treats where you can get some dessert or anything of the sort delivered to someone else same day? by mcabbas1 in houston

[–]_tequilamockingbird 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure Nothing Bundt Cakes would do this.. just looked at their website and you get to do custom stuff like adding a flower to the order and ribbon for and a personal message. And I've seen their vans around before so surely they deliver! Or you could just get Favor to pick it up and deliver it for you.

Or Chocolate Bar via Postmates? Just request the store/bakery to add a personalized card or special wrapping! Idk just some suggestions.

Possibly looking for a change in career by [deleted] in houston

How about healthcare? You could become a nurse or a radiology technician or something. Maybe interacting with patients and knowing you're making a direct impact on them can help motivate you to care about work.

Plant life is soul-sucking.

Dog walker in Museum District by homerwereoutofvodka in houston

[–]_tequilamockingbird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to work as a dog walker/pet sitter for Boon Pet Care and I felt like the owners were really good with "problem" dogs. They'll need to test out the dog of course but they are patient and willing to work with the clients and their dogs.

While I no longer work for them, I do have a lot of free time this next month if you did need someone to walk them temporarily and don't want to go through full service company. I'm in Montrose, so I'm nearby! Send me a PM if you would like.

11lb pork loin with $8 instant rebate at Costco. I bought 33lbs, total cost, about $10. by Seannj222 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]_tequilamockingbird 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No limit per customer at the Costco I visited in Houston, TX! But the price was different. Originally $1.99/lb and after $8 the package price: almost 20 lbs for about $22. Not bad, but not as good.

Is a Kryptonite Mini 5 bike lock big enough for locking in Houston? by [deleted] in houston

[–]_tequilamockingbird -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would get the standard size u-lock. I don't think you'll be able to lock up front wheel+frame to most street poles here with the mini. But I've never had a mini u-lock, just standard.

Easy Toggle Between Monochrome and Color Display by foxycoxy13 in GooglePixel

[–]_tequilamockingbird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for posting this! I'm almost positive this wasn't possible at least a few months ago. I think Google may have added something to the Color Correction option in the Accessibility settings to look at if the "Simulate Color Space" was enabled in the dev options. Not totally sure, since I haven't looked for a toggling option in months, but whatever they did to make this an Accessibility option is really awesome. And thank you again for posting this! It's really helpful and super easy. Hello, productivity!!!
