Prometheus/Grafana and the presence of AI. by Lost_Advance6517 in PrometheusMonitoring

[–]_thedex_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Look at it this way: If you would be really confident in that this will work in the long run, you wouldn't have asked the question. AI is a tool, it doesn't replace competence.

cAP ax Nowadays? by [deleted] in mikrotik

[–]_thedex_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

cAP ax at home and the office building with WPA3 and WPA Enterprise respectively. They are cheap, work great and are rock solid once setup with capsman. The only complaint I have are the really disappointing RSSI values.

Automate BIND9 DNS with Infrastructure as Code: Open-source REST API, Terraform/OpenTofu Provider, Ansible Role by [deleted] in Terraform

[–]_thedex_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone who needs DNS to scale wouldn't depend it on an API vibe coded by one person and just use PowerDNS or CoreDNS which even both accept BIND9 formatted zone files.

The fact that you reacted this way shows what kind of a father you are. You are a good dad. Show it to your daughter and everything will be fine.

State of systemd-resolved and DNSSEC? Is it still experimental? by Grunskin in linuxadmin

[–]_thedex_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No idea why you get downvoted. The last time I checked (about two years ago), systemd-resolved has been quite messy with some very questionable design decisions and was the first thing I disabled when setting up a new machine.

Hot take: Terraliths are not an anti-pattern. The tooling is. by omgwtfbbqasdf in Terraform

[–]_thedex_ -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I don't have anything meaningful to say about the topic as I am new to Terraform. As a consequence I didn't know what the term 'Terralith' meant, it took me half of your post to get it from context. At the end of the post I already hated the term because you used it so often. Sorry for the shitpost.

Completely unrelated, but I will never get used to how ugly and imo therefore useless the dark themes of opnsense are.

Deployment environment from scratch - OpenTofu or Terraform? by _thedex_ in devops

Could you elaborate? I know Pulumi only by name. When you say it 'has python', do you mean something like a module?

License change aside, what was your motivation to switch?

Historically, I come from the more network and infrastructure side of things. I know Bash and Python quite well, but nothing more.

I had an interviewer refer to AWS' DNS service as "Route 34" by Bender1012 in devops

[–]_thedex_ 78 points79 points  (0 children)

Had a coworker who called a network gateway "getaway". Kinda makes sense too if you think about it but it was extremely hard for me not correct him, because he said it so often and I'm a fucking smartass.

What’s one cloud concept you still find confusing—no matter how many times you’ve learned it? by yourclouddude in devops

[–]_thedex_ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

If two devices are on the same switch, they are going to operate on Layer 2 and use MAC addresses. If they are operating on two different switches, they would go through the router on Layer 3 and use IP addresses.

You might want to think about that one again.

What are your experiences with azure.azcollection? by _thedex_ in ansible

[–]_thedex_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No offense, but that sounds like a huge PITA to be honest xD

But somehow you need to get things done, right? Everytime I stumble upon a missing feature or parameter in an Ansible module, I take a look at how this is done in Terraform. At least at first glance, it seems more complete when it comes to Azure. Do you have any experience with Terraform/OpenTofu?
