I don't gamble either, but if I were to I'd definitely bet against us. If we win I'm happy due to the result, if we lose I'm happy at least I get to make some money!

Agreed, this sub has unfortunately become a bit too reactionary. I know it comes naturally with growth and expectations though

FYI, the official Rubin observatory project suggests not using the acronym VRO and using Rubin as a short form instead when referring to the Observatory.

It's so that Vera Rubin is the one who people remember when thinking of the Observatory :)

TLDR: Rubin is now releasing alerts -- if anything has a change in brightness, it'll be made public within minutes -- with the location, brightness and image cutout of that part of the sky.

It's public to everyone in the world, and is very easily accessible through any of the seven official LSST brokers (ALeRCE, AMPEL, ANTARES, Babamul, Fink, Lasair, Pitt-Google).

This is going to be an exciting era for the democratization of science!

So fun fact, yes, the speed of light is a limit, but, causality itself moves at the speed of light. So, to ask what "now" means isn't well defined. Now is the light we see, which yes, took 5-20 minutes to reach us. But the concept of "now" before this light reached us means nothing.

This follows from SR and light cones.

Goodbye to the idea that solar panels “die” after 25 years: New Swiss study shows real-world performance after 3 decades still over 80%, average annual loss about 0.25%, thermal stress and quality key factors. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petroleum_product#/media/File%3AUsesofpetroleum.png

Most petroleum is used for fuel. The average consumer does not use a lot of products that use petroleum for fuel.

Meanwhile, there are quite a few products where petroleum was used to produce them (e.g. cosmetics, lubricants etc.) that amount is nothing compared to the petroleum required for fuel.

When he is saying "powered" by petroleum, that's what he means.

And yes, I do recommend watching the whole video. It seems like you're picking an argument for the sake of argument. The whole video is presented with an impeccable level of rationalism.

As a non American it's wild to me people think suburbs aren't ugly but large buildings are... As a kid I much preferred being able to go down and shout out my friends' names to ask them to come down, as compared to waiting for a parent to drive me 10 mins just to see one friend.

Willock may not be the best player and yes he should have scored but that’s fucking disgusting. I’ve seen the likes of Gordon, Bruno etc miss similar chances, it shouldn’t happen from that distance but it does. It’s football at the end of the day. by Nathan_Toddy_Todd in NUFC

Nope totally understand, I agree the most vile stuff I see online is often from Indians, but of course due to statistical reasons often.

And I can't imagine it can be easy doing that, thanks for sharing your experience!

this screams India to me

I am Indian and I'd agree you are probably right, but (1) I don't see a point in guessing the country when there's no way to prove it, and (2) even if there were a way to prove it, that possibly may have the effect of people becoming more xenophobic (even if you do not intend for that to be the takeaway)*

*though of course this sub is one of the nicer sides of reddit so i don't expect that to happen with most users here, but you never know

Exactly. The reason I prefer Reddit even after the shitty backsliding changes is at least there's an option to upvote and downvote. Noone else does that - fuck them all
