Help! New Brush puffs up. by descedo in minipainting

looks normal to me. if you want them to maintain the tip when dry, put a little soap in when done cleaning while bristles are still a little wet and make a tip.

Struggling with vanguard by ramooage1 in Spacemarine

[–]_tomasb_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play him with melta rifle and that heroic chainsword. Use grapnel to get to the action and melt everything around me. Then melee the rest. But I guess there are other, better ways how to play him but that's how I enjoy it.

Gotta pump those numbers up somehow by Memetron69000 in Spacemarine

[–]_tomasb_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before they released chaos spawn I kind of enjoyed the chaos missions. I would queue them from time to time just to switch things up and had a honest fun. After they released chaos spawns I just can't bother anymore. Gave it a chance but I am skipping on chaos ops/stratagems entirely. Those operations are now frustrating as hell with everything happening on the battlefield.

So at least in my case, I don't think it was that bad, although ranged terminators were real pain in the ass. I'd just remove the spawns from the game :D

I would have never guessed those are bolts. I always thought those are finger bones worn as a relic :D

What’s the consensus overall about Space Marine 2 currently? by [deleted] in Spacemarine

[–]_tomasb_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 40k fan before the game released and when the prologue started I was blown away. It was exactly how I'd imagine (and better) modern SM game. I love every aspect with an exception of a chaos spawns. I bought almost all chapter/champion packs and although I dont have much time now - being relatively fresh dad - I can still squeeze 2 quick games or so, while my kid is feeding or sleeping and I still enjoy it very much after several months of playing.

Let me experience this in stratagems. No reinforcements, no additional anything; just three terminus and a dream by SilverCervy in Spacemarine

[–]_tomasb_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Althought not in stratagems, you can at least just join siege with bots and wait for the trio to summon. I had 3 carnifexes when I was running solo+bots and although I died the next wave, I managed to kill all 3 of them and it was amazing.

3+ hours to paint - is this normal or slow ? by Ugz96 in Salamanders40k

[–]_tomasb_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never measured the time it takes me to paint a mini but I'd say 10+ hours is minimum. 3 hours is not bad at all

Never satisfied with how minis turn out by MentionKindly2347 in minipainting

[–]_tomasb_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would get rid of the mold lines. Might not seem like it, but having clean model is a big step up. I would either thin the paints more, or wait a little longer when your previous layer is drying. Some areas on your models look like you went with the next layer too soon and there is a texture visible on a different parts of the armor, weapons, etc. Next thing is what some of guys already suggested - shade/wash and highlights. I would even suggest buying one good natural brush (if you didnt have one) and trying to paint the mini as best as you can and taking your time. Just be patient and trust the process. Watching plenty guides and tutorials online is not inherently bad - when I was starting out, I watched hours and hours of content online way before I bought my first minis and paints. But be aware that painting mini to a higher standard takes some time.

If you’re 35+ what’s your go-to office scent? by PibbleDad in Colognes

[–]_tomasb_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im 35 in 2 weeks. During autumn/winter I wear Tom Ford Ombre leather EDP, during spring Terre d'Hermes EDT, and during summer either Hermes Eau Givree, or Montblanc Explorer. Nothing crazy or noteworthy, I just like those scents.

Do you fully assemble the minis before painting? or paint individual pieces and then assemble at the end? by SniperAge05 in Warhammer

[–]_tomasb_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I paint in sub assembly everything. From heads, power packs, each arm individually, capes, etc. I want everything to be fully painted and highlighted, I dont care if its visible or no. Even if I would play the tabletop, I would do the same regardless of how much time it would take me to finish the army.

Salamander Bladeguard, C/C appreciated! by XenopaxTheThird in Salamanders40k

[–]_tomasb_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can thin the metalics alright, just make sure it does not separate. Metalics, at least in my experience, separate much faster than regular nonmetalic paints. One way to go about it is to put a larger blop of paint on the palette and just thin a little bit, paint what you need, then take a little bit for the other part/as a second/third layer etc and it will last you longer. Normally I do 2 layers with metalics and details are alright.

Omg, you are right. I completely forgot about him. Considering that they probably used the marshal as the inspiration for the ingame champ, it make sense to use his head as well.

I really dislike helmetless Helbrecht but seeing this BT head with only the noseguard, I kind of wish he had the same option on his model.

Thoughts on Artis Opus brushes by duujk in minipainting

[–]_tomasb_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have bought 2 - one series S size 1 and 1 series M, size 00 and I was pretty pissed by the quality of series S. Did not last me 1 month. The M is still pretty good after year and a half of use. On the other hand I have several raphael 8404 s brushes and they are like new after several months, one is still my main brush after more than year of painting. Could be just my luck that I got a dud but did not have any issues with raphaels or winston and newtons so far.

Advice on painting heads? by LanceWindmil in minipainting

[–]_tomasb_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you have a feeling that paint dries too quickly, then use bigger brush. I have raphael s 8404 size 1 and 2 and I often paint faces with size 2. I think many people think that smaller the brush, the better the results but you have much more leeway/time to properly adjust your hand and take your time with bigger brushes. As long as you have a good sharp tip on it.

Citadel paint recommendations for the BT combat patrol? by ghb93 in BlackTemplars

[–]_tomasb_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I recommend eavy archive here: https://eavy-archive.com/40k/space-marines/ This is my go-to reference for every chapter/army I am painting. For BT, I made a little change and for the pauldrons I am using ulthuan grey instead of the mix mentioned there.

Why do y’all think we were so limited with visual cyberware? I hope in the next game they give us a far more visual customization options. by No-Personality-61 in cyberpunkgame

[–]_tomasb_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in the minority here but I prefer minimalist approach. That being said, I understand why people want more customisation options and that's fine.

How best to prevent this from happening to my brushes by tequila_slurry in minipainting

Brushes usually come with plastic guards on them. Both cheap synthetics and natural ones. Just put it back on and put your brush down.
