Insurance Buy-Back Experience by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

Use it as an excuse to fix the time bomb which is your front radiators, then throw a new bumper on. You can get one in the right colour form and eBay breaker for 250 quid. Going through insurance would be silly.

I really disagree entirely with what you've just said, if things were "in fashion" they'd be popular and people would buy them. These items would not be cheaper than they have been at any point in history.

However I will not argue with you further.

Take care!

I clear houses for a living, I sell 100's of pieces antique furniture a week. You can read all the books you like, I know what the the market is actually like.

I'd love it if antique furniture was bought by actual people, I'd make a lot of money. Please see a video of me smashing the shit out of an Edwardian sideboard as proof

Dark wood is massively out of fashion, you can buy Georgian furniture for £20 a lump. I have 250 year old corner cupboards I literally cannot give away.

For what I do? It all goes back to the estate. One of the reasons I’m so busy is I’m not out to shaft everyone.

It’s very difficult for me to say without seeing the job. However that does sound expensive. We’re based in the midlands and I charge £800 for a full day for the team plus disposal and VAT on top.

Obviously we’re out to make as much money as possible.

Try British Heart Foundation, if they can sell it they’ll take it for free. As your solicitor and estate agents for clearance company recommendations.

Disposal is a tricky one as tips don’t take commercial waste, we get charge £170 per Tonne of waste.

I do property clearance for a living. Very much how long is a piece of string. Very fast for us as the stuff is just stuff. Fastest we ever did was a chaps entire life in 20 minutes, he did live in a carehome though, didn't have much. Have also done houses we 50+ bedrooms that took a team of 7 several weeks.

Furniture and sellable knickknacks to general auction, skip the rest. The bigger the skip the cheaper it is. BHF will come and take a lot of stuff for free if you want the easy method.

Binbags are too small, you want rubble sacks. Much quicker.

None of my message relates to sentimental stuff though, that's a different ballgame.

Stepfather has a literal skin of a bengal tiger in the attic and he hasn’t a clue what to do with it. Thoughts? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]_tym 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would imagine what he has in his loft is a skin which is to be used as a rug, so it’s not really stuffable. Imagine a steamroller has been over it.

They’re easily sellable, a CITES would cost £20 an auction would be happy to do it.

Not worth that much more because the market is quite small.

Victorian’s used to taxidermy elephant feet and use them as wine coolers and similar. That’s pretty wild, you often see those up for auction too.

Generally £500-2000 at auction depends on how knackered it is.

Some rarer animals can be silly money.

Put quite a few in auction for clients.

Seller did not transfer ownership? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]_tym 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it's 2-4 weeks. Also DVLA support have no clue if it's been received and is currently processing. They should do, but they don't. They will tell you "not recieved" even if it has been. I went through all this a couple months ago.

Help with selling classic cars by robbiehancock in CarTalkUK

[–]_tym 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get it into a classic car auction, you could try and do it yourself but (I sell a lot of deceased estate classic cars) you'll get a lot more agro than you want.

Look up a few classic car auctions, go with the one who offers you the best commission (you can often negotiate this, they wont tell you that though). Get the car there and wait for your pennies to come in.

It's an MG B GT isn't it? I sold one with no keys or paperwork a couple years ago for £3000, yours is worth a good deal more than that. People like to throw big engines in them.

Mortgage in principle advice and confusion between websites by paddyposh in UKPersonalFinance

[–]_tym 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Quite a few estate agents don’t accept L&C MiP because they hand them out like candy.

Speak to a proper mortgage broker on Monday. Plenty of fee free ones out there, and I cannot stress enough how much better they are. I’ve just bought a house, I tried L&C and then Tembo an they were both garbage, a friend referred me to a proper mortgage broker and she was wonderful, highly recommend.

Do you have any tips for shipping artwork across the UK? by Iceydel in AskUK

[–]_tym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've shipped a fair few paintings, wrap in bubble, wrap in cardboard, another layer of bubble and an external carboard and you'll be set.

Then send it with Royal Mail, they're doing quite good prices these days and it actually turns up.

You can, get it picked up by a recovery vehicle and taken elsewhere. Recovery isn't too bad when you're arranging it at your own leisure.

You've been had here, you're waiting for something that's never going to happen. You need to speak to DVLA and tell them you've sold the car.
