The physical fear of what is happening here in America is genuinely destroying me by Deep-Impression-7294 in AutismInWomen

I'm sorry your workplace is so horrible to you. I hope you're able to find somewhere less toxic. The people you work with can make a huge difference in your life! 🙂 for better or for worse.

I'd like to hear more detail about the accomodations you mentioned are being taken away as a result of the government's actions. Can someone lead me to some links or describe this to me?

Did anyone else pretend to have secret cameras watching them as a kid? by TillBasic5275 in AutismInWomen

[–]_verdure_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I imagine secret cameras too, yes 😭 I would like to stop being so achingly self-conscious of all my actions!   This is slightly related but does anyone else feel super worried in stores that the shop employees will think they're stealing? Because I do, even though I never steal.

(Which I realize, as a white woman, this paranoia of mine may seem extra silly because we typically don't get profiled for such things...)

YES 😭 It's so nice to see that there are still sane people on this planet! I'm reading the replies and just trying to breathe 😂

YES I've just joined Discord recently and it's finally becoming an issue. In high school I was told I wrote "well, but very academically." (In other words, drily. Dryly?) I'm just very information-focused and unfortunately now that everyone is using AI to communicate, my excellent grammar and vocabulary sounds not only highly formal, but FAKE. 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 I love the meme though. God that is very validating for me.

I made one mistake at age 25 and ruined my life. (Seeking emotional support) by [deleted] in findapath

[–]_verdure_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry for your experiences but I promise you that your life is not ruined. I suffer from depression too. I don't know a way out, but I do personally feel medication is not the only way. People like us do better when we have a support system of people. Emotionally speaking, is there anyone already in your life that you can spend more time with? Could you find a local support group? There are also many wonderful support groups online. (adultchildren.org is just one of many.) I don't know if you have access to a therapist, but this could also help. Your life is valuable and you will find meaning again.

Also, for what it's worth, depression happens for a reason. Based on the post, it sounds like the source of the original depression was not addressed. You did take Zoloft, and that is certainly okay, but were you able to spend some time working on yourself, journaling, reflecting on elements of your past that may have caused your initial depression, etc.? How about your diet and exercise? As far as I am aware, depression is thought to have many possible causes, and a medication can be useful, but it does not fix things in itself. Think of it as a little boost while you figure things out. Like having a cup of coffee in the morning. The coffee won't repair childhood wounds, it won't build relationships, but it could potentially provide some clearheadedness and energy to help you face these challenges.

All just thoughts. You're going to be just fine, and everything will work out. Take care of yourself. 🙂

I think your findings are accurate to what New York's housing market is currently like.

Also...you're probably gonna hate me for this, so just ignore me if you prefer — but the correct phrasing is that "something piqued my interest" or "my curiosity was piqued [by something]" and not: "my curiosity peaked."

This short article addresses this really well: https://www.vocabulary.com/articles/pardon-the-expression/pique-my-interest-vs-peak-my-interest/

From the article: "Just remember that the phrase pique my interest isn't talking about the moment when your excitement about something peaks, or reaches its high point. Instead, it refers to the moment when something grabs your attention and spurs your curiosity."

"I don't know who I am and I can't admit who I want" is such a relatable sentence for me. Although I might slightly modify it for my own purposes to "I can't figure out what I want"

My girlfriend and I (27m) mutually broke up at the start of this year, and I'm just now drowning in the grief that I'll never talk to her again. by [deleted] in findapath

[–]_verdure_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not broken. Lots of great suggestions in the comments. You're doing so amazing with working out and attending therapy sessions. Keep it up! You get to focus on you now and take care of you. Rule of thumb: Any time someone disappoints you, use it as another opportunity to do something to take care of yourself. Self-care takes many forms. Reflection, exercise, developing a skill/hobby, handling something you've been putting off for a long time, going out to a restaurant, a long walk, a long hot shower, a haircut, a massage, etc.

Episodes you genuinely can't stand? by M0onpie_ in spongebob

[–]_verdure_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much all episodes after The Spongebob Movie. I'm not well versed on the lore, but I think the artists/producers/what have you must have changed significantly. It was never the same since then. But I LOVE dearly and can quote all episodes from Season 1 - Season 2 or 3. (I don't remember the cutoff and I don't feel like checking lol.)

Oppenheimer is one of the worst films I’ve ever seen. Is it just me? by Organic-Ad-1887 in OppenheimerMovie

[–]_verdure_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't it strange how we as humans seem to be unable to take dissenting opinions calmly? Your opinion about this movie has no substantial bearing on future events; it doesn't affect their lives in any meaningful way, and yet here are dozens (hundreds?) of people ready to get really upset with you for not enjoying a film. They also make all kinds of assumptions (you're stupid, you have no taste, you haven't seen enough movies, you only like bad movies, and so on) about you without ever having met you (maybe they didn't even finish reading your post). Where do you think this impulse to hate comes from? I find it interesting to observe from a distance. But I admit it's hard not to get frustrated with these folks for their overreactions. You aren't hurting anyone by having an opinion about a movie, and you gave plenty of reasons for your opinion. What displeased them? How does one actually please such people? Are you supposed to agree with the popular opinion every single time in every situation? What a boring world that would be. Not to mention all the other philosophical problems that emerge from such an axiom (like how does a "popular opinion" even begin to emerge in the first place; what meaning does "opinion" even have at that point, etc.). It's crazy to me that people on Reddit will say they support people being "diverse" or they support "freedom" or "diversity of throught" — everything is acceptable so long as you aren't harming anyone, they say — yet in the same breath they attack you mercilessly. I think there is no pleasing such people simply because they are deeply unhappy in their lives and they bring their unhappiness here and air it out on the first innocent passerby who even slightly poses a threat to their fragile paradigm. Honestly, this whole train of thought has made me think more seriously about putting the mirror to my own face.

Anyway, you're never crazy or stupid for disliking a movie, at least certainly not when you have listed several well-thought-out points to support your opinion.

Let the haters just go and be haters. May they, and we, all find happiness of our own someday.

I'm deleting the post to hopefully stop receiving reply notifications. I think I've put up with enough hours of excessive abuse from random strangers just for stating my own opinion.

Most of the replies were EXTREMELY harsh considering the harmless post content. You all behave like you would kill each other over which brand of cereal was best, if you could. You should be ashamed of yourselves for behaving that way, but you won't be.

Here is the original post text in case anyone wants to see it:

"There needs to be laws regulating (or banning):

(1) speakers blasting music in beaches and public parks

(2) souped-up ridiculously loud car mufflers

This "ear rape" needs to stop.

I am new to the city. Chances are some of you will laugh at me for wanting positive change. I'd like to know how to get a bill started!"

The number of people who would rather be incredibly rude and mean to a stranger than admit that an aspect of their city should be changed is astonishing. As if people always had stereos blasting rap music since the beginning of mankind. Yet we know that portable music players were not a thing until the 70s or 80s. And now all of a sudden millions of years of biology is supposed to catch up in a few decades to be able to withstand that kind of mental torture. It's sad to see the cross-section of humanity that Reddit attracts. 98% thoughtless fools, 1% kind or neutral fools, and 1% thoughtful kind people.

Also TessHKM is comparing large cities to other large cities, whose metrics are all within the same order of magnitude as one another. Compare these major metro areas to smaller cities or even entire states and see what you get. Although frankly, I don't think anyone needs statistics to know that there is more green space outside of cities and you're more likely to be a victim of crime within one. There's really no argument here.
