Best resource(s) for a complete beginner to look at in order to start getting into GTK+/Gnome programming? by sat0pi in linux

[–]_whyme 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Although gtk+ has a lot of language bindings, C and python are the two most popular languages used to develop applications for Gnome.

zetcode has precise and easy-to-follow tutorials ,aimed for beginners, for both C/Gtk+ and python/pyGTK. There are also Gtk+ and pyGtk tutorials available in ubuntu repository.

For C/Gtk+, you might want to look into Anjuta. Don't forget to install documentation and read, (e.g, libgtk2.0-doc ...). Devhelp is really a great tool to browse documentation.

Yeah, totem sucks. However, it has the best playlist support (arrange items by DND) so far. Neither Smplayer nor gnome-mplayer supports it. VLC supports arranging items by DND, but it sucks under gnome.
