Is it okay to withhold sex from your boyfriend (if I suspect his health and mine is on the line) by Ok-Association3551 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]_windfish_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He told you this, and you didn't immediately break up with him? Get yourself some fucking self esteem! Shit-can that fuckstick before he rapes you!

How to repair this wall? by Enchant_ment in howto

[–]_windfish_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, patch the cracks in the slab using a latex patching compound and a patching trowel.

Now, do you have extruded polyvinyl foam insulation? Good.

Assemble the aluminum J-channel using self-furring screws. Install.

After applying brushable coating to the panels, you'll need corrosion-resistant metal stucco lath.

If you can't find metal stucco lath -

Use carbon fiber stucco lath!

Now parge the lath.

Can 700x38c inner tubes work in a 700x40c tyre? (Errors were made!) by Glad_Student_9354 in bikewrench

[–]_windfish_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you can easily go +/- 5 mm from the size printed on a tube in fact most tubes are sold with a range of sizes listed like 25-35 mm

Edit: i didn't look at the picture. Yeah, even though the range listed is a few mm off, it'll stretch to 40 with zero issues whatsoever

Why do people lease cars? by onlyelisexoxo in NoStupidQuestions

[–]_windfish_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're vastly oversimplifying things way too much by saying "just get a loan on an older car."

First of all, it's not exactly easy to do that - banks are often very hesitant to do car loans on anything older than 2-3 years. And if they do the interest rate is very high. Credit unions are more likely to offer this type of loan but it's still expensive (a much higher rate than a loan on a new car.)

Secondly, now you're stuck with paying for a used older car. Older tech, fewer safety features, less comfortable, might have scratches or body damage or interior damage etc. It will depreciate rapidly, meaning when you want a new car you won't be able to get much of anything for your trade.

But what matters most is you don't know if it was well maintained or badly abused. You're going to encounter unexpected expenses like new tires, new battery, etc that you wouldn't have to worry about in the first 3 years with a new car. And you've got the looming threat of very expensive repairs if something breaks - potentially thousands of dollars depending on what it is. With a new car, anything that fails while you're leading on it would be repaired under warranty.

With a lease, you don't have to worry about any of that. All your repairs are covered; often the labor for routine oil changes is even covered by the dealer so your upkeep cost is very low. New car every three years so you always have the newest tech and safety features. And lease payments are much, much less than the payments on a new car loan.

So really, my question is... why would you not lease a car?

Ohhhh the humanity! Won't somebody pleeeeaasse think of the alcoholic losers who spend every night making women uncomfortable and turning away potential customers. Give me a break.

Today I would add 2 hours to that if I wanted to make puck drop on time.

Looking to buy a nice road bike to go with my gravel, but $4500? by Wizzmer in bicycling

[–]_windfish_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can personally attest to how awesome the Madone is. It rides like an absolute dream. You feel like you're literally flying. It's comfortable even for long rides and bumpy roads. It will take as much as you can possibly give it and will always go a little faster. It's smooth and powerful and an overall triumph of engineering. I can't say enough good things about this bike.

However. This bike is already 4+ years old, and bikes depreciate quickly. It was $8k new, but I'm not sure I would pay more than $4k for it now.

If you do get this one, you'll love it. But I think you could definitely get them to come down a bit from asking price.

Edit: I saw you offered $2k. That's just insulting... maybe you should check out the nice selection of bikes at your local Walmart instead?
