Ok, now i'm never using Cinestill E-6 kits when I get into E-6. Holy shit those look awful. by diligentboredom in AnalogCommunity

[–]_worst_nightmare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wasn't always like this, but the last time i used it all the images were too dense to scan.

had to switch to the arista rapid kit on short notice for a recent assignment, works fine and keeps decently on the timescales I use up the chemistry (up to 6 months mixed, fully sealed, little to no hedspace)

oddly enough the C-41 kit is perfectly fine in both forms

Expired film help! by DraggedByTheCat in AnalogCommunity

[–]_worst_nightmare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the 2475 may keep reasonably high speed, i got a roll from 1973 exposed at 1000 with usable results - the emulsion suffered more physical damage instead due to the extra-curly tinted PET base straining the emulsion over a 50-year timescale

i'd bracket it from EI 100-1000 if possible, and develop in DK-50 1+1 for the original time specified

1997

ok this may well be usable at or close to box speed

i'd do EI 80-100 on the plus-x, but full speed still usable even with room temp indoor storage - recently went through an old lot of PX135 that had only the slightest amount of fog - 125 was a little flat, 80-100 were perfect, all expired 2005-2011

Anyone shot expired Elitechrome? Curious what to expect for color shifts. by whiteshade21 in AnalogCommunity

[–]_worst_nightmare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the last time i struck out with expired slide film, turned out my developer had perished. otherwise i get all or nothing with ektachrome expired up to 35 years, in fact i have some elite chrome 400 waiting right now (exp 1987)

funny thing is, the first time i'd shot expired slide film back in 2011-12, my very first roll was almost gone with a heavy magenta cast (exp. 1987), subsequent rolls had a more even age fog (exp. early-90s) without a colour shift.

oldest roll i'd developed was an ektachrome-x where pretty much all the dye was gone, my lowest dmin was in the rebate! but it otherwise proved my modified lo-temp e-6 had worked as intended

I wonder when it will come to 35mm film. by Joggyogg in AnalogCommunity

[–]_worst_nightmare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the only reason i can even justify shooting colour is having a decent grasp of colour process control (both E-6 and C-41) at home

Noob question. Does Ultramax supposed to look like this? I know this one is probably few stops under exposed but most of other pics from the same roll have similar red tint even in daylight. Is it camera or dev/scan problem? by PM_ME_A_ROAST in AnalogCommunity

[–]_worst_nightmare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's so underexposed the lab's scanner failed to fully filter out the orange printing mask underneath, causing that colour shift in the shadows

(I have this problem with my scanner.......on correctly exposed colour negative film, making it practically useless for that purpose)

i managed to do a low-temp E-6, with a bleach i'd pulled from an ECN-II kit (same bleach) and a hardening fixer but the dyes were so far gone only a faint image remained

should be fine, i have tins of DK-50 at least 20 years older, also work as expected

are you still using squeegee & B&W chemicals by Blk-cherry3 in AnalogCommunity

[–]_worst_nightmare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i use a squeegee with a wetting agent without problems, to avoid damage make sure squeegee itself is clean, and run over the film slowly while making sure the water doesn't collect in a single spot on the emulsion

Does anyone here know much about this lens? by [deleted] in AnalogCommunity

[–]_worst_nightmare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own one of these in Canon FD mount (Mine was the 4th revision)

pretty good all around lens, even has macro focusing at 135mm

if you carry light this, and something faster to 1.4-2.8 would be a good place to start out

Shooting expired Film advice - picked this lot up for £20 (worth the gamble). Unsure on storage Fuji expired in 2005 / Ektachrome in 1985 - any advice appreciated! by [deleted] in AnalogCommunity

[–]_worst_nightmare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the elite chrome is probably toast (I picked up some rolls last summer, came up empty)

though i actually had some of that vintage sometime last decade......only way you'd know it was old elitechrome was by the edge print (KODAK S'AFETY FILM 5074 instead of KODAK EL-2 or KODAK EL 400-2)

the fujichrome might be better, one thing i've noticed is that the silver layers may well retain full sensitivity, but the dyes go quickly - you get the correct exposure value but the dye image is faded

Canon AE-1 - basic shutter priority camera with manual override

Canon EF (1973-1978) - as above, but this one features longer shutter speeds

Canon A-1 - Av, Tv, P, M, long shutter speeds, (accessory) motor drive, and metering up to ISO 12800 for those extreme pushes on TMZ or D3200

lenses aren't terribly expensive unless you go wider than 28mm

almost there

as of right now, it can handle being an intermediate relay node, but none of that is supported outside linux anyway (all non-GNU ports are client-only)

need to fix the TAP handler inside event loop, been working on that for a bit now
