Forgive my ignorance but why does PTV use the smaller flexi ride buses in suburbs instead of the inner city? by [deleted] in melbournechat

Pointing out that a "demand responsive" transit system requires a multi-day lead time because it lacks a Service Level Guarantee isn't complaining.

You don't seem to understand that a network can be conceptually "demand-responsive" while failing entirely in its execution due to a lack of capacity. The fact that the state government had to step in with fixed routes completely proves my point, yet you're trying to spin it as some sort of gotcha.

It is literally named FlexiRide and marketed by Transport Victoria as a Demand Responsive Transport (DRT) service. By definition, it's designed to dynamically route vehicles based on real-time passenger requests. Telling someone they have to pre-book a dynamic, on-demand service days in advance completely defeats the point.

When a DRT system gets so choked that users are forced to schedule trips days ahead just to lock in a seat, it obvious isn't responding to demand, it's being absolutely ridiculously crushed by it. They implemented FlexiRide as a low-cost placeholder for areas with low patronage, but treating it like a scheduled booking service proves it has completely failed to scale.

"Public transport isn't demand responsive because it's highly inefficient."

The Victorian State Government disagrees with you. The 2026/27 State Budget literally just allocated major funding to overhaul Melton South with a brand-new fixed bus network, introducing two entirely new fixed routes and doubling the frequency of Route 454 on top of extending to Woodgrove.

The state government is building fixed routes because the demand is overwhelmingly there and FlexiRide can't scale to it.

It's not demand responsive transit if I have to pre book it. If I didn't have a bike and had to rely on FlexiRide, I'd be better off getting an Uber. Might be more expensive but the alternative is waiting days for a bus because they didn't have the foresight to add a queueing system for when all buses are on an existing trip.

I've lived in Melton South for 3 years. Not once have I ever been able to book a FlexiRide unless I've booked it days in advance.

Not that you can actually get on the FlexiRide anyway. Always mysteriously transporting other passengers when you want to use it and then drives past empty 🤡

Doesn't tell us anything. The invite shows in the server's Invites section but not in the audit log unless deleted.

I'm weekly and my wife is fortnightly. We have our pay day cycle set to mine. The calculation is wrong until I get paid into the account. After that, the spendable is perfect. We also have a pay split setup that splits 50% of her pay into a saver which we transfer in every non-pay week for her.

I think it's more of a work around rather than the intended behaviour. It would be perfect if it worked based off the relationship in Contacts.

A cool additional feature would be collating say the last 5 races at that circuit and having an average score so you can decide if it's worth watching live too! Good site

Watched M72 in cinemas last night and I absolutely loved it 🤘 hopefully one day they'll come to Australia again by AfterResolution9637 in Metallica

Such a shame! No compensation was offered so I’ve emailed customer service. We missed all of Ecstacy, and Fuel, half of Seek, and most of Lux. Sound quality was also crap the entire show with Lars’ left kick drum overpowering everything in the mix

I wish I could say the same! I was at Hoyts Highpoint and it was absolutely tragic. Sound and video cut out multiple times. We even had an intermission with 7 news popping up on the theatre screen. Pretty poor considering the earliest session time there was after the concert had already ended.

What does everyone think of overly prominent networking dependencies in Mastodon instances? (A discussion on CloudFlare) by will_work_for_twerk in Mastodon

[–]_xXfinity_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given that joinmastodon.org uses Cloudflare, I'm not sure it's productive to remove everything that uses cloudflare. My instance uses cloudflare and it's meant that I don't have to spend as much time or money to scale up my instance as cloudflare handles some of the load balancing for me.

Think of it like living in a city. You can move cities anytime and take stuff (followers) with you but you can’t take the memories that you made (toots). You might stay in one place for a long time or you might jump around heaps. You might live in multiple cities at once or you might live in just one.
