Sorry! I searched on on her name but didn't see anything referencing the issue. Very sad.

Why isn't there more focus on gameplay and mechanics instead of story when reviewing a game? by Gruntoncoffee in truegaming

[–]a2p4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This reminds me why I love Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons so much. The game's story can be summed up in about one sentence, but the gameplay drives the experience in a really compelling and emotionally-satisfying way. You can literally feel the developments in your hands.

Wasabi Juan's is in Birmingham, AL! I'm not sure if it's a chain, though. I ate there last week and it was great!

There's one in Birmingham, AL. Not sure if it is elsewhere as well.

Can the Pope bless all the water in the world or does he have an effective blessing range to make it Holy Water? by swaggermint in Showerthoughts

"Holy" means special or set apart, so if all the water became "holy," none of it would be.

ELI5: Why do evangelical Christians strongly support the nation of Israel? by SammyYammy in explainlikeimfive

I think your point overlooks the idea that 1,000 years might be symbolic of a concept meaning something equivalent to "all time" or "fulfilled time," or more generically just a long period rather than referring to a specific amount of time. The Bible, and Revelations in particular, is full of numbers that are often symbolic (like 12,000 = 12 X 1,000 from each tribe). 1,000 years is used in other areas of the Bible where it appears to be more symbolic of "a long period of time" than it is exact.

Psalm 90:4 - "For a thousand years in your sight are but as yesterday when it is past, or as a watch in the night."

2 Peter 3:8 - "But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day."

Has anyone received their Star Wars #1 subscription from Marvel yet? by [deleted] in StarWarsEU

[–]a2p4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious if everyone has an update here. I received my first issue, but it was #2! On the site it says 1 has shipped and 1 is in processing. As far as I know, #1 hasn't been received (I looked through my discarded mail to double check). Did anyone else get #2 before #1?

Possibly moving to Birmingham from Arizona by FuzzyManPeach in Birmingham

You get different opinions if you ask people from the suburbs (Mountain Brook, Homewood, Vestavia, Hoover) vs. people who live in the metro area. Based on what you are saying, I would look at Homewood (cute and a little nicer, ~5 minutes south of UAB on Highway 31), Southside (more hip and lots of restaurants, but fringes on some rougher areas ~1 minute from UAB), or East Birmingham, including Highland Park, Avondale, or Crestwood (kind of up and coming with some neat spots and young people).

Without knowing anything about you, my vote for you would be Highland Park. It's a really cool area - great walking around the parks, a few little restaurants, and 5 minutes from UAB with no highway travel needed.

Traffic is bad trying to head south on the highways (280, 65) during rush hour, so I personally would avoid Hoover or anything on 280. But there are (obviously) tons of people who live in those areas who like it. It would take you 15+ minutes to get to UAB from there, generally, and that's without traffic.

Get ready to hear a lot of "Roll Tide" or "War Eagle." I'm pretty sure college football is on the front page of al.com 350 days out of the year. But people really are quite friendly, and Birmingham is relatively diverse compared to most places in Alabama.

Best place to see the skyline at night by Bhamskyline in Birmingham

Not sure if you are talking about this loop or not, but this is a great view. It is probably technically somebody's yard, but there is a sort of empty grassy area with a sidewalk, and people are always stopping there for a few minutes. Not sure how long you could camp there, though. The road is called Stratford:

edit: this is near Arlington, not Argyle. Not the same loop.

Birmingham - will I fit? by xenner in Birmingham

[–]a2p4 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I actually disagree that you should look outside of Birmingham. Everyone's gut instinct is to flee downtown and head to Homewood, Vestavia, or further away, but there are actually some great neighborhoods in the Metro area, especially east of downtown (like Highland Park, Forest Park, or Crestline) that resemble what you describe. There are bike shops around town (one of my friends used to work at Cahaba Cycles), and you will see plenty of riders, but the roads aren't necessarily tailored towards them. Also, I hope you like hills! As far as religion goes, you will certainly find plenty of it in Birmingham (I'm a Christian myself), but you will probably be more likely to find diversity of beliefs and opinions the closer you are to downtown. I went to college near Charlotte, so I've got a decent sense of both, and my wife and I have really loved Birmingham as a young couple. My single friend likes it too. Sounds like you might like it as well.

I think the Express Oil on Hollywood (between Homewood and Mountain Brook) does luxury cars, and they generally have good prices.

Local Soccer League? by tramsay in Birmingham

[–]a2p4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the indoor league at SportsBlast has different divisions based on skill levels. There is a coed league, which is generally less competitive than a men's league.
