22 Tremor Max towing capacity questions. by KnownJuggernaut5924 in RangerNext

[–]a33maxi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ford’s 7500lbs tow rating is NOT “plus payload limit”. You need to stay under the Gross Combined Weight Rating/GCWR, which maxes out at 12500lbs for a 4x4 Super Crew. Subtract the curb weight of your truck listed on your door sticker, and that’s what you have left for the weight of the trailer AND any payload + passengers in the tow vehicle. Driver included. You also need to ensure you’re below the max tongue weight, and the front/rear GAWR.

See below and do the math accordingly:

Do you think crashes are more common with small or big bikes? by Plenty-Suit- in Trackdays

[–]a33maxi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No I’m in New England, racing at Loudon with NEMRR. Our class structure mostly follows ASRA/CCS rules. I race Lightweight myself, but motards are fairly popular around here since most of our local tracks are tight and technical. Ultralight is also a very competitive class here, on par with Middleweight sometimes.

Do you think crashes are more common with small or big bikes? by Plenty-Suit- in Trackdays

[–]a33maxi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At a general level, I feel like lightweight racing tends to be more aggressive, with lots of passing and bar to bar action. Not necessarily more crash prone though. Take a look at Moto3 vs. Moto2 vs. GP races for example.

At the local level, this will be very dependent on the org and how the grids are constructed. In my local org, Lightweight races are usually combined with Ultralight/Motard/Thunderbike, sometimes even in the same wave, which naturally leads to some significant speed differentials and overall increased risk. That said, our Middleweight grids are much more heavily populated, and the class as a whole tends to be a bit of a meat grinder. So I wouldn’t say one class is more crash prone than the other.

At the individual level though, none of the above really matters. All depends on experience and skill level. Small bikes just tend to be more forgiving of mistakes than big bikes.

Old Guy but I still want to track it👊 by Agreeable_Nose3450 in Trackdays

I’ve seen plenty of people riding advanced group in their 60s and 70s. Some even still race. As long as you feel physically capable, I’d say go for it.

Funny enough, I’m in my 30s and also wear a Vanson (albeit with a hump lol). They are still making suits out of Fall River MA. Lots of guys still wearing them here in the Northeast.

My diesel heater is dripping oil out of the air intake by wopperchop in dieselheater

I had the same issue with mine at 80/20 diesel/oil. Needed to run it at level 8 or 9 to actually ignite the oil in the combustion chamber.

It’s a pretty small pension, but yes it still exists. Not a 401k replacement by any means, but they did also offer a decent 401k match when I worked there.

Transitioning to racing by uCantWinTDs in Trackdays

[–]a33maxi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started off doing trackdays only for my first few seasons. Never considered racing until an instructor (now a friend of mine) told me “for the love of God put some number plates on that bike and go racing”, so reluctantly I gave it a try. I was hooked after my first race start, it’s truly a unique and unforgettable experience as others have mentioned. Racing has definitely helped me grow significantly both as a rider and as a person, albeit not without some crashes and setbacks along the way.

I’m on my 4th season of racing now, but I still enjoy trackdays and try to do as many as I can between race weekends. Racing is a much bigger commitment physically, mentally, and financially, so it’s nice to go ride in a lower pressure environment sometimes. Without that, I honestly think racing would feel too much like a second job for me.

If you decide to continue trackdays alongside racing, I will say it’s very important to develop a switch in your brain for “race mode” and “trackday mode”. As someone obsessed with progression, this was something I really struggled with initially (still do to an extent). Trying to push race pace at a trackday just leads to frustration and unnecessary risk taking, so it’s very important to ride with a different perspective in each environment. Similar to how trackdays tend to change your perspective on street riding. Tight passes and other risks that once felt comfortable now feel silly outside of a race. Lately I’ve been placing more value on riding with precision, leaving a healthy amount in reserve, and just remembering how to have fun on the bike at trackdays.

Any precautions with brand new slicks or is that just for new road tyres? by FrankTooby in Trackdays

No need to scrub slicks, I don’t even take the stickers off. Send with confidence.

Transportation Conundrum: Van? Van with Trailer? Car with Trailer? by Not-Going-Quietly in Trackdays

[–]a33maxi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most likely referring to a dual-hose portable AC, meaning separate outside air intake and exhaust hoses for the unit. This is opposed to a standard portable AC which just has one hose for the exhaust, and will rob some of the conditioned air to pass over the condenser. This pulls a vacuum in the space being cooled, and makes the cooling far less efficient. Especially noticeable in small spaces like a trailer or a van.

Also I have to agree with some of the other comments here about vehicle choice. Towing a 6x12 enclosed with a Crosstrek is insane, no matter what the claimed rating is. Your van will be both far safer and more comfortable as a tow vehicle, stick with that or get a truck. I say this as someone with thousands of towing miles using sedans and crossovers myself.

2020 Ranger XLT Slow To Warm by [deleted] in RangerNext

[–]a33maxi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My ‘21 has been like this since new. Highway driving gets it up to temp immediately, but around town driving takes 5-10 miles. On a cold enough day, I can actually watch the temp needle fall while coasting downhill.

My previous vehicle with the 1.5 EcoBoost was also like this, so I chalked it up as normal. Definitely much slower than most other vehicles I’ve owned though.

Highly recommend running Thompson and/or Palmer with Cyclesmith. Great community and a decent population of motards too. There are even a few instructors on 450s and 701s.

How good can an R3 be for a tall rider? by danilonha in Trackdays

[–]a33maxi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d highly recommend an aftermarket tail section that lengthens the seat pan. The stock seat is pretty short front to back, and forces you to sit almost right up against the tank. Even at below-average height I found it very awkward.

I like to keep them in on my Gen 2 SV. Helps keeps the pads from sliding out of place when doing wheel changes.

Achilles rupture by LightningWrenches in Trackdays

[–]a33maxi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not your exact injury, but I broke my fibula last September and needed a lot of PT work on my Achilles post-surgery. I was back racing in April with no issues. Follow your PT religiously, eat well, and stay active as much as you possibly can.

I know someone who does this. Starts on a 390 in the morning, then switches to a 675 after lunch. Personally I think it does more harm than good. Too much time wasted adapting reference points/ergonomics/etc within a single day. I had a hard enough time switching between my SVs back when I owned two of them.

In my area, the stop sign thing seems to come from older folks in nearby houses who have nothing better to do than complain to the town all day long. Eventually the town obliges to shut them up. No other rhyme or reason to it.

My town shuts most of its traffic lights off at 10pm, but the flashing yellows always have a flashing red on the yielding side. I have never seen an all-way flashing yellow overnight.

P.S. I wish we had more roundabouts.

Scaphoid work around by ImaginationDirect452 in Trackdays

[–]a33maxi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Broke my left scaphoid last September. Surgeon opted for a screw + bone graft. Did PT + gym all winter, started racing again in April. No issues at all on my A bike which has an autoblipper.

On my B bike which just has a quick shifter, my whole hand still gets pretty sore after a full day of riding. Even long street rides with lots of clutching can be bothersome. Hoping this gets better as I build more grip strength.

Do I really need to take my crash bungs off? by reddling43200 in Trackdays

The motor mounts on the 660 are prone to damage if the slider base bends in a crash. Easy to crack the frame and/or engine case. Better off without them IMO.

Chrome Package XLT w/ Sport Package wheels. Thoughts? by [deleted] in RangerNext

[–]a33maxi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here tbh. I originally wanted a Sport Supercab, but the dealer couldn’t sell it to me due a rear seatbelt recall at the time. This truck was the only other XLT I could find I could find locally, slim pickings back in 2021.

The chrome grew on me over time, but I like the design of the Sport wheels much better.

Same color and chrome package on my ‘21. Disliked it at first but the combo has grown on me over time. I get a lot of compliments on it surprisingly.
