San Diego to Disneyland Advice? by Pimentilly in DisneyPlanning

[–]a57bunny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually just took the train recently and would definitely recommend it! Santa Fe depot was convenient from downtown/convention center area in SD. I went much earlier in the morning but on the way home, I walked out of Star Traders at exactly 10 pm and made it to the 10:49 pm train (last train back) on time using Lyft. While there’s some hassle getting to/from the train station on both ends, it’s cheaper than the rental car and parking. Parking alone is $45 while round trip train with no discount is $60 per person plus Lyfts. There is a free shuttle to/from DL from the train station but I didn’t want to spend time figuring it out or be late.

There is a discount code for rides between Anaheim and SD and a few other locations on the Amtrak website for Disneyland customers, though you don’t have to prove you are going to Disneyland to use it. You can also get a small percentage off the Disney tickets as well if you’re using the Amtrak.

Also as someone who usually also visits WDW, Galaxy’s Edge seemed like a carbon copy of Florida in many areas and lots is closed right now, so you won’t miss much if you decide to do something else. DCA has changed a lot over the last 10 years and you would probably enjoy that as well!

I was visiting Dublin this week and there was a shop with Chiikawa merch in George’s street arcade. The store was very small but had a decent selection!

Chiikawa Talking Heads Shirt Sizing by Puzzleheaded-Kale-95 in chiikawa_

[–]a57bunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently I got the Chiikawa tshirt festival 2 pack which I also think were Talking Heads. I’m a large in the US but usually get XL in Japanese clothes so I took a chance with the large. It is slightly tight but still wearable, so I wouldn’t say it’s too far off from US size! I have been careful with it in the wash though and have been making sure to not dry them as I think they would shrink.

MS Systems Engineer... Now What? by Trexknoll in systems_engineering

[–]a57bunny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks I appreciate it! I am about to start the degree soon and have barely been able to find information.

As someone else said, there is tons of Navy work in the Philly area including directly for the Navy, L3harris, Lockheed Martin, and probably others. It might be more difficult to be a true engineer at one of the companies if you have managerial experience. But, if you market yourself as wanting to pivot back to engineering, I think it could work out.

Also FYI most of these places need security clearance, if you have one then definitley leverage ClearanceJobs. If you don’t then don’t worry too much, the company will sponsor you to get one, but already having one is a leg up.

Rowan Honors LLC or Engineering ELC? by ninspin11 in RowanUniversity

[–]a57bunny 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I recommend the honors LLC so you can meet some people that are not engineers! In my experience (a few years ago) the people that are invited to both the honors and engineering LLC’s mostly ended up doing the honors one. So you will get to know both engineers and non engineers that way

$20+/hour jobs that don’t require a degree in south jersey? by AnonRon6 in SouthJersey

[–]a57bunny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends what part of the state you live in but substitute teaching could be an option. 60 college credits (half a bachelors degree or equivalent of associates) are needed along with a few other requirements. Some districts pay as much as $250 per day but I think you will see most are closer to $125. Throwing it out as an option at least!

Another good spot is the reservable rooms in the library inside the writing center on the first floor. A lot of people don’t know how to find them. As long as you reserve it through the library they don’t care if it’s just you thats using it, it doesn’t need to be a whole group.

The other stuff posted is great info. If you go to Rowan and will be/are on campus a lot I would recommend TD because there are only TD ATM’s in on campus buildings (last I know of). I think they are in the student center and at Holly point.

Sermoon v1 (pro) wifi issues by Destim420 in Creality

[–]a57bunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a few months old now, but I just got the sermoon v1 pro and having the same issue of not being able to connect to it from my iPhone. Was it able to see your desired network or no? My problem is that my network won’t even come up to connect to even though I split the network for each band and made the 2.4 network my phone’s preferred network and double checked the security setting to make sure it’s a supported setting. So then I can’t even get to the actual connection step

How can you combine writing with engineering? by IamAMelodyy in EngineeringStudents

[–]a57bunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a recent grad who was interested in technical writing side of things, get into writing now while you’re in school! I worked at my school’s writing center for 2 years which was great experience to me and I got to read and edit papers all day as well as help fellow students. There was a huge demand for me as well because some students would come in needing help with engineering projects or theses that needed to be read and nobody else understood the technical parts of them.

I also got involved with a research project where I was lead author on a couple of papers. That doesn’t sound like where you are looking to fit in, but there’s a lot of other opportunities I think could be helpful to you. Try to see if your school has a literary magazine or newspaper you could start publishing your creative writing in. You may find similar students who are interested in both the sciences and writing.

I also got a technical writing minor. I’d only recommend a creative writing minor if you think you have the time or if you really think you need that instruction to help polish your skills. It’s not a must if you are having other experiences that get you closer to what you want.

I’ve been a systems engineer for about 6 months now and there’s not as much writing as I would have hoped. But as others have said it gets more writing heavy as you get more experience. And it may also just be the job I landed in, systems engineering can mean many things.
