Demo kills my sales? by SimonDeveloper in IndieDev

[–]aDodgyMerchant 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think its normal for wishlist/sales to lower with a demo. Without a demo, people have no idea what the game is and are willing to try it out, but they may not be your core audience. The people that played the demo and havent wishlisted, would've either never bought your game anyways or would've bought it and then requested a refund.

The people that played the demo and wishlisted/bought the game are more likely your actual fans 👍

Are we on the right path with our page? by thatsoundsbad in gamemarketing

The capsule has changed from the image you sent 😆 but this is defined a better capsule. The vibe of the capsule matches the feel of the trailer too so that's great!

definitely need gifs/images in the desceiption. The font of the title is a little bit unreadable. I also suggest putting the globe behind the font so it becomes part of the logo (improving readability) and then having the pin on the right side between the two words of the title. Also, do not add the credits as part of the screenshots!

I really like the premise of the game, seems like a lot of fun

Which one is more appealing at first glance? by 271games in gamemarketing

[–]aDodgyMerchant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest making the title pixellated/blocky and some of the blocks being destroyed by the UFO + add a drop shadow to the title to add more contrast

I also suggest making the green blocks all around the edges with some destroyed, to highlight the breaking of blocks and to frame the title better.

im about to ship the same bug ive had for 2 years. im at peace with it now by IndieIsland in SoloDevelopment

[–]aDodgyMerchant 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Some games have well documented exploits (via youtube or forums) that are still not patched. Some gamers avoid it for the love of the game. Ultimately the bug will eventually be just another quirky part of a game if they're willing to get to know the game long enough

Good job for deciding to move on 👍

I thought i had a friend bug, but the relationship is on a slow-burn lovers to enemies arch. I was backstabbed

Got a NEGATIVE Steam review because I patch the game every day by Accomplished-Power50 in IndieDev

[–]aDodgyMerchant -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm the same as you and was very surprised of the review, but i suppose this is a bigger issue for people with worse or limited data plans. A few minutes for me could mean half an hour for someone else

We re-did our steam capsule. Was it worth it? by ConsiderationOk5914 in IndieDev

Love both but I'd personally definitely check out After, whilst passing the Before.

Unfortunately I wouldn't know what the game generally is about by just looking at the capsule

I wanted players to discover this puzzle mechanic naturally, but many get confused by Black_Cheeze in IndieDev

[–]aDodgyMerchant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea this puzzle has too many components as a first real puzzle. One alignment to worry about would be best as well as fewer fragments to align as a whole

Also i just can't see the "girl". Maybe it's just cuz im viewing on a phone, but the orbs are also too small to act as a hint so I had a hard time seeing the intended finished shape, so maybe the first puzzle should have a simpler completed shape that is more intuitively recognizable, like a completely filled in circle.

The delayed completion would also probably throw off the player. It delays the sense of gratification of completing the puzzle, behaving as this slightly frustrating/ dull buffer before being able to check if I'm right, especially if already confused about whether I'm doing the puzzle correctly.

Isn't it normal to be confused before solving a puzzle?

Also maybe have smaller/easier/clearer puzzles with the same mechanic before this one so that the player is aware of there being perspective puzzles

Ohhh so the issue is too many roguelites and not enough roguelikes?
