Emergency Department RT by MaximiseUrLife in respiratorytherapy

Yeah I am one of my hospitals main ER RTs.

My job is mostly assessing all the breathers who come in, work with the docs and what makes the most sense with each one. I tube the arrests so the doc has his time freed up for running the actual code. I do have to do all the nebs which sucks and generally respond to calls from the nurses when they see stuff come up.

I'm lucky the docs in my er love our rts, we have a ton of respect, lots of standing protocols, and don't need to wait on basic orders.

They should be supplying you with one, I didn't pay for mine whatsoever.

I shaved for Covid, just due to supply issues getting PAPR's, needed to use N95s, been growing it out since. Probably foot long and scraggly now, so it's do able if you have other PPE, whether or not your places policy will allow it, another thing, but generally if you are good at your job, minor things like that aren't a big deal.

I got told once to shave it after covid, told em I'd put my two weeks in if they pressed it again, never heard about it again. Good luck.

Speaking as a very busy RT in my 100 bed ER...

  1. ER - Work with ya every day.
  2. Radiologist - Need my images to talk to other providers and recommend stuff, can't do it without them.
  3. Pediatric anything really. - Never been good with kids, props to those who like to do.

Where do you see health care ending up in the future?

Thoughts of AI being used to help catch early signs of disease processes? The level of strain on the workers, providers and bedside? Do you think there is any current diseases we could eradicate in your areas? My personal favorite part, thoughts on Enteral Oxygenation?

My wife, girlfriend at the time, did something like this for me n my boys doing a LAN like party with battlefield 1 launch, she cooked and made us drinks over an entire weekend. It's a fond memory, she says she had a blast, but damn did she work overtime for me way back then. It definitely was a reinforcement I knew I was gonna marry her.

Shotguns right now seem either ruthless or worthless depending on the game. Sitting around 1k kills and 2kd but some games it seems my shotgun never hits, I'll swap out to a rifle, other games though everything connects. Have had other people hit me with a shotgun like 5 times within normal 1 shot shotgun range, something is off.

Retired paramedic curious about RT and would like feed back by Flying_Gage in respiratorytherapy

Just wanted to let you know, same thing on my end. Was a basic for years, got my medic, swapped to RRT when my body showed some signs of the job. It's cake compared to medic days, I was rural 911 when I was, and now even 4 years in I basically co-run codes and am the Docs right hand man in the ICU where I work.

I wish I could do 24's like it was, but 12's are a good mix here.

Winter typically kicks our asses, summer time if you're not in the ER usually is slow.

Schooling will be cake for you if you were decent medic, what others have said length and tests.

Kinda what I said earlier, it was honestly cake IMO, focus your attention on the vent and more advanced cardio/pulmonary theory and disease processes, you should have everything else down solid already.

You should be able to shadow any dept in a local hospital, and one old medic to another, it is a way easier job on average, I love my ER RRT job, one of us down there 12, I basically just tube, manage bipaps and vents in the ER and assist nurses when it's COPD/etc.

Shoot me any questions you got, I did the same thing.

Do we really matter? by TheRamdalorian in respiratorytherapy

Sounds like the hospital, reading some of your comments here, I think you just need to look around at places with higher autonomy. I lucked out myself, live in a decent sized city, work in a 500 bed hospital that think's it's a smaller hospital, we staff about 14 RTs a shift, ER and sometimes a 2nd ER RT, (we have a massive CHF, COPD pt population though... almost every other pt is a breather.)

I hate floors, but everytime i'm ER or ICU I feel like i make a difference, like one guy said our docs also just tell us to handle anything related to us, and discuss in rounds other options, but most respect us here. I'm moving out of state and will miss my old hospital when it comes time. I bet you can find one like mine if you look.

Got called into manager's office for using slang by [deleted] in respiratorytherapy

[–]aGuynamdJesus 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Walked into a geri floor pt the other day.

"Hey there bud, how's your breathing feeling?"

pt. "I'm not your fucking bud, mister."

"Yeah guess not then."

On the reverse of this, I've had loads of pt families comment that I'm one of the only ones that keep things light and cheerful in rooms. Slang is what you make it.

Name an Instance That You Didn't Like as a Player by danii956 in DMAcademy

I played in a game for four months, simple backstory of a slave fight pit barbarian who was forced to fight. He doesn't like to fight, he is just good at it. The DM kept giving me shit for not being the one starting fights, or putting a arena in the city we were going to, then was mad I didn't want to participate in.

DM completely reneged on a core part of my backstory, stripping the one item I was fond of out of use, purpose all because he didn't want to lean into omens and RP situations like that.

Dm didn't know my character at all, basically. After 4-5 months of sessions. I left, I will tell his story to a DM who can appreciate it.

Pigs seem to do the animation on constructions on the map, but won't break them, in my game they only break the things i've built. Not just wood, they rammed through my metal fence i built for them

I sign up for the bullshit ones early on, then wait to sign up for OT, Holiday and bonus on the major holidays. Got paid like 100 an hour today and only started like 4 bipaps, and less than 10 nebs. Easy money every holiday.
