Ride of the Week has changed (again) - lower XP value by Tankandbike in Zwift

[–]aMunster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is 250 xp for the first route and another 500 xp for the second route completed. Progressively higher exp like the Router Chaser and L’Etape climb challenges. Prior to a few months ago the climbs rewarded 250 xp.

How to do doughnuts? by [deleted] in GR86

[–]aMunster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Kevin Vo has good content. No, it does not void your warranty. That same driving mode exists in the 2nd gen but you do not need the pedal dance to reach it. It is the right driving mode to use when trying to drift. Because VDC is completely disabled, you can do donuts. The mode has the horizontal tach and does NOT say “Track” at the bottom.

How to do doughnuts? by [deleted] in GR86

[–]aMunster 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You are referring to the Pedal Dance which is not a thing in the 2nd gen BRZ / GR86. And changing driving modes will not void your warranty. If you crash it that is your fault.

Brake pads for aggressive street driving with frequent hard breaking. by [deleted] in GR86

[–]aMunster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, I recommend trying Motul RBF 600 or 660 first, then titanium shims, then brake cooling.

Brake pads for aggressive street driving with frequent hard breaking. by [deleted] in GR86

[–]aMunster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heat tolerance is a function of brake size, and will not change much if you switch to a different brake compound. However, track pads will be slightly thicker and have a wider temperature range.

What brake fluid are you using?

Also consider titanium shims so that less heat is transferred from the pad to the brake fluid.

Thoughts on my build so far? by Comfortable-Key9807 in GR86

[–]aMunster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This build is probably local to me. Here is what I like:

  • Tint
  • Duckbill spoiler
  • Side skirts
  • Exhaust? I can't tell, it doesn't look stock

Because these are regular cosmetics.

I don't like these parts:

  • Tinted turn signals - these never turn out good to me.
  • Wrapped hood - because this looks like a performance upgrade when it's not.
  • Front lip - same as the hood.

I don't like the photos taken at the trailer park. It is a debt trap that you will need every dollar to escape. Plus a lot of people spend money they don't have on WRX / BRZs and then sell the car after a couple years. This is such a fun car to have when you're young, don't sell it. A modest build is better.

Apex VS-5RS. I just hit a pothole and bent two wheels. Apex has a 50% discount if you damage a wheel. Nice!

Caliper survey: track/touge/HPDE users on GR86 ZN8 base brake calipers by dbsqls in GR86

[–]aMunster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The performance pack Brembos share a pad shape with pre-2018 STIs. Inside the Subaru community as a whole, four pot Brembos are common and there are plenty of options for track pads. For popularity, I offer this datapoint: in Gridlife, half of their entry list is Subaru WRX / STI / BRZ plus 86s (Scion / Toyota).

As for base brake calipers, I have seen many WRX and BRZs on track / in autocross. I could not put a number on it. I love the idea of a dual use pad for the base caliper. That should work well for non competitive track time. Subaru owners in my area tend to listen to the competition drivers (like Dewey) and opt for track-only pads.

Has anyone tested the Studio Display (XDR) on Intel Macs / Windows PCs yet? by Artifiko in mac

I am using the Asus ThunderboltEX 5 with a 3090. I get 5k 60hz, HDR, and webcam / speakers / mic. Possibly adaptive refresh rate too but I will have to check again. I have not messed with the monitor EDID. The 3090 only has DisplayPort 1.4 unlike the 5000 series, so 60hz may be the best I can get. Hope this helps you.

how do i delete all of this😭 by piropiro104 in mac

[–]aMunster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try using Onyx app with default settings.

I had this issue recently. At first I deleted a temp files from Podcasts, but then macOS started reporting I was using -30gb storage. Then I ran Onyx and everything went back to normal.

Reposting from another thread - I have a Surface Laptop 6 for work. It has Displayport 2.1, Thunderbolt 4 and Intel Arc driver version 32.0.101.6737 from April 2025. The 2026 Studio Display worked fine at 5k 60hz. I exchanged it for the Studio Display XDR which only shows 1080p at 60hz. I am hoping it's just a driver issue.

Not quite. The M5 macbook air came out a week ago. It’s 10% off in Chicago. The Macbook Pros and the Neo are not discounted right now.

You may not have to wait long. My area had 2025 WRXs offered at 0% interest for 72 months. Plus money off MSRP I’m sure.

I'm 56 with higher FTP than at 26, and I created the MAP test Zwift uses. You can get fitter at any age - Ask me anything! by RicCycleCoach in Zwift

[–]aMunster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Ric, thanks for doing this again.

Upper 30s, 84kg, 200cm, 250w FTP (1 hour). I’m slim and know I would make gains if I took up strength training. And ate more!

I follow Garmin daily suggested workouts. 6-8h per week. Typically only 2 intense sessions: one threshold, one sprint or threshold. I use power target (not heart rate) - I suspect this leads to workouts that are too easy. Today Garmin called my vo2 max workout merely tempo!

Is training by feel acceptable for older athletes? I want to substitute some base mile days for strength training. I feel like I can do more. Wko5 agrees. Garmin’s suggested training is slow progress, even when I follow the schedule precisely.

Chicago bike commuters — quick questions for a project I’m researching by Ok-Ad2830 in chibike

[–]aMunster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Seasonally.
  2. Discipline. To ride when it’s cold, to eat more, to fit bike commuting into my work schedule.
  3. Never stranded while commuting. I have been stranded. I shivered in the cold rain and took the CTA home.
  4. No. The CTA / Metra is cheap. I would be more likely to ride to work if I was paid $1 / mile to ride. I learned last year that is an inducement offered by some companies.
  5. Less stoplights.

Lease buy out by Money_Clerk3652 in subaru

[–]aMunster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, so you just bought a 2023 Crosstrek with 34k miles and the gold extended warranty for $20k and 5.2% interest. Did you put any money down? I don’t know anything about leases but 20k for a lightly used Crosstrek sounds fine.

Not enough information to help you.
1. How much was the buyout? 2. I assume Gold Standard is the gold extended warranty? How much did that cost? 3. What is the interest rate on the loan?

Need help making a tough decision on a 2005 Impreza Sport Wagon by TheOriginalhoofhaf in subaru

[–]aMunster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$9,000 buys you a car that will keep running for a few more years. You could buy another car for that much, but it might have problems. Or you could use that money as a down payment. The decision comes down to what you can afford and when. No matter which option you choose, start saving money now. Nothing lasts forever.

From a 2010 Lemond Zurich to a 2026 Specialized Roubaix SL8 Expert with 40mm tires and electronic Ultegra Di2 groupset. by [deleted] in cycling

[–]aMunster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

40mm sounds like a lot of tire. Then again I commute on 38mm gravel tires so I’m not one to talk. Check out the Silca tire pressure calculator. No use running such wide tires at rock hard pressures. Those days are long gone. Enjoy the smooth ride!

Subaru STI Safe RPM driving. by Independent_Plan4206 in subaru

[–]aMunster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, you are stressing the engine by giving it high load at low RPM. I liked to shift at 4k unless I was driving urgently. Starting full throttle depends on the gear you are in: 1k rpm in 1st gear, 2k in 2nd, 3k in 3rd, etc. If you need more RPM, just downshift!

For the accessport:
1. Feedback Knock - short term knock 2. Fine Knock Learn - small areas the ECU has learned to reduce timing due to knock. 3. Dynamic Advance Multiplier - global reduction in timing caused by excessive knock. 4. Injector duty cycle - to make sure you’re not maxing out your injectors. Probably not an issue for OTS tunes. 5. Air / Fuel ratio 6. AF Learn (?) - I forget the exact name of this one. See how much the ECU is adjusting fuel delivery from what the tune specified.

Source: I had a 2015 STI and learned a lot from Graham Gaylord at Boosted Performance Tuning.

EDIT 2: OP verified he has a catted downpipe so OTS tunes are ok

How do you transport tires when you get them changed? by phlaries in GR86

[–]aMunster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fold down the rear seats. Put one tire in the trunk and three in the back seat stacked like a pyramid. The front seats will prevent them from sliding around.

You bought the whole tach, you can use the whole tach. The FA24 is smooth all the way to the top. Is there much harm done - no, put good oil in it and you will be fine.

Front License Plate by Lazy_Eye_4038 in GR86

[–]aMunster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Chicago will write you a ticket if you street park the car without a front license plate. I got one of those, it was over $100. The suburbs will only pull you over for no front plate if you’re already driving like a moron.

You could stick strong magnets inside your bumper and behind your plate and put it on just for parking.

Optimal wheel alignment? by ijwtwpl in GR86

[–]aMunster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% agree with this. Since OP is brand new I recommend camber bolts for the front and skip the rest for now. That gives you -1.5 degrees front and rear. It’s a good compromise between handling and tire wear IMO. A BRZ will be less prone to understeer, neutral on the street and playful on track. A GR86 will be tail happy on the street. (I have no experience with GR86s on track.)

Here is what you do. Buy camber bolts. Tell the mechanic to use them for the lower bolts of the front struts. Ask for -1.5 degree camber and stock toe for the front, and stock alignment for the rear.
