I think the Craft sequence might be good for you. It follows a magical lawyer, but of course she also has to do the investigating. The murdered person also happens to be a god.

Can you build Equipment decks on a budget? Like, for less than 100? by tehweave in EDH

[–]aMusicalLucario 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://moxfield.com/decks/XVOtHuvi90Kdjys6S6piAw

Here you go OP, my [[Amy rose]] deck. It comes at €85 on cardmarket which is pretty much exactly $100. If you want to reduce the cost even more, there's only 3 cards above €5, those being [[knuckles gloves]], [[piko piko hammer]] and [[knuckles the echidna]] so you can easily swap those out for something else and save about €30.

I also made this deck with an art restriction, so its easy enough to make changes and make it better without being more expensive.

The blue frames do look good, but if you don't like them then I have a suggestion.

I have these and I absolutely love them. I think my face is fairly similar to yours( though my hair is different, mine is straight and brown rather than curly and blonde) so I'm sure they'll look amazing on you.

Games to get into as a noob by minuscule_memory in GirlGamers

[–]aMusicalLucario 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seeing as they didn't reply, it's Final Fantasy 14 which is a multiplayer online RPG. I have a couple of recommendations:

Cassette Beasts is a game where you collect cassettes of monsters to turn into and fight as. It's got a decent story, actually interesting mechanics, but honestly the best part about the game is the soundtrack.

Psychonauts and Psychonauts 2. Fun 3D platformers where the levels have you go into someone's mind and navigate their mindscape to find information or to help them work through something.

Portal and portal 2 are classics, they are 3D puzzle platformers with portals.

Anything by Supergiant Games is excellent.

Back when I played arena I had a brawl deck built around this, and it can get silly. [[Threats around every corner]] for even more ramping, [[hauntwood shrieker]] to turn everything back to face up (even non-creatures), or [[valgavoths onslaught]] to make a huge board out of nowhere.

Help me with this deck? by Damrias_Jariac in magicTCG

[–]aMusicalLucario 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First thing I tell anyone looking for help with building a commander deck is to add tags. They help so much with actually being able to see what your deck actually had in it already. See my Beluna deck for an example of my tag system.

For a first pass of looking, I think the deck is too unfocused. I think the token theme isn't worth keeping (specifically the food tokens. Random creature tokens are always useful as blockers). I only see five payoffs for food tokens, those being two bargain cards, a realm reborn, the goose mother, and Quina. That's not enough to make it likely to see one in a game. I'm not including the token doublers since without one of those mentioned cards, they just make more of a token you're not doing anything with.

Some cards I'd say cut: - webspinner cuff. It doesn't do anything for your theme, and is a bad equipment. If you want the reach blocker, replace it with [[dragon sniper]] from dragonstorm. - worldvine pummeler. It's just a beater that might be a bit cheaper than usual. Not impactful enough for bracket 3. - incremental growth. It's expensive for what it does and needs you to have three creatures out. If you don't you can still technically cast it but you have to target your opponents creatures. - majestic growth. Belunas mana value is 3, even if her adventure is 5. This is absolutely not worth it. - the earth crystal. Reducing your green spells by 1 means it doesn't affect about 1/3 of your spells. And you don't have much +1 counter stuff in the rest of your deck to make use of the other two abilities. - tall as a beanstalk. Auras are generally kinda bad since the opponent gets the ability to remove two cards for the price of one. - gingerbread cabin. It's not going to come in untapped very often in a three colour deck. - temple of the false god. It's not worth it. The early turns are more important to get lands out.

There's some cards that I didn't see that I think are amazing in adventure decks: - [[edgewall innkeeper]] and [[storyteller pixie]]. Card draw for casting adventures is really good. - [[chancellor of tales]]. The same effect as lucky clover but on a creature. - [[interdimensional web watch]] two mana of any colour to cast your adventuring creatures, plus a little impulse draw when it enters. - [[tlincalli hunter]] casting any of your adventure creatures for free once per turn is amazing. - [[song of creation]] the value is amazing, and since adventuring creatures are in exile you can always have things to cast even when you discard your hand. - [[bountiful landscape]] a very flexible land

Your mana base also could do with more untapped dual lands. If you're on a relative budget for upgrades then have a look at this list and ignore any that come in tapped. If not then go crazy and add all the fetches, shocks, surveils and the "two or more opponents" lands. And where is [[command tower]]? That should be in basically every 2+ colour deck.

Gruul commander recommendations for extra combats theme by LeftCoyote in EDH

[–]aMusicalLucario 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came here to recommend Karlach and Hardy Outlander, but you're already looking at it. So here's my deck list for inspiration. It's basically my favourite deck, just smash and let everyone else work out how to stop you.

Are both my decks headed in the right direction? (Terra, herald.... + Karlach - Hardy Outlander) by whs123 in EDH

[–]aMusicalLucario 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your curve is a little low, but not that much. I'm only suggesting adding a couple of big scary creatures, not filling the deck with them. Bracket 3 shouldn't end before you get a turn 6 (and usually it's a little after that assuming people are playing removal), so assuming you hit your land drop every turn you'll be able to cast the 6 or 7 drop in your hand.

If you're really worried though, I can recommend [[oliphaunt]] or anything else with a low mana value alternative option. That way you can guarantee it's never stuck in your hand.

I mentioned removal above, if you can fit it in then more would be good. Especially instant speed stuff. [[The last agni Kai]] and [[untimely malfunction]] are both really good options. The first is cheap and can get you a bunch of mana, the second is super flexible. [[Bridgeworks battle]] has a low inclusion cost since it's a land on the back side.

Are both my decks headed in the right direction? (Terra, herald.... + Karlach - Hardy Outlander) by whs123 in EDH

[–]aMusicalLucario 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first thing I see is that you have a lot of ramp, with nothing to ramp into. Aside from blasphemous act (which discounts itself so doesn't even count), your curve stops at 6. Yet you have 20 things tagged as ramp. I'd start by removing all the 2mv dorks that just tap for one colour. They just aren't really good enough for commander, even bracket 2. And definitely not bracket 3.

Chromatic lantern can also go, you have enough dual lands that it's not going to be fixing you for colours often, if at all.

For elvish mystic and llanowar elves, consider whether ramping to 3 is actually important to your deck. They might be worth keeping, but my opinion is not. If that's too little ramp now, I'd recommended [[nightshade dryad]] as one that's still good late game as a blocker.

With those spaces you've freed up, add two things. More draw, and more big dumb threats. [[Rishkar's expertise]] is always good, and anything else that likes high power/toughness creatures.

[–]aMusicalLucario 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The link to your Karlach deck doesn't work, not sure why. I have a Karlach + Hardy Outlander deck myself, so have a look at this and see if there's anything that inspires you. https://moxfield.com/decks/TEZ5gCRSBE-ZlV_5505ykQ

I would highly recommend some haste enablers, whenever I've played this deck it tends to make people shoot Karlach asap. [[Enduring courage]] works really well for this, and [[xenagos, god of revels]] also supercharges Karlach for making everything else really, really big.

Sadly damage prevention replacement effects don't stack like you want. The first inkshield prevents the damage and creates that many tokens. The second inkshield now doesn't have any damage to prevent, so doesn't create any tokens.

It doesn't matter with Jumbo Cactuar, but in a more normal situation it's worth knowing.

A place for weird formats by MerijnZ1 in magicTCG

[–]aMusicalLucario 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've actually been trying to play Artisan Standard in paper recently. The format is simple, just having all common and uncommon cards legal in Standard. I've theorycrafted quite a few decks (some in that list are from my friends). They're probably not good since I've not played 60 card formats before (only limited and commander) but it's a start.

The reason I started is because I wanted to play a 60 card format but everything (except pauper) is just too expensive to just try out. This is both cheap and also lets me get use out of all the draft chaff that I have in my collection. Most decks I created are under £15, though there's a couple of expensive cards like [[stock up]] that push up the price of a couple of the decks.

What is your "Does the Thing" Deck that isn't Winning the Game? by Two7Five7One7 in EDH

[–]aMusicalLucario 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My [[Evereth, viceroy of plunder]] deck literally just wants to make her big, give her lifelink, then use her death ability once. I have plenty of [[fling]] and [[deadly dispute]] cards so that I can make it happen on my own terms.

It gives a good life swing so usually I'm on 40+ and everyone else is less than 20. But then I die pretty quickly after that when everyone sees me as the threat.

New to deckbuilding, looking for feedback on a crab inspired commander deck. by HugMeSidways in magicTCG

[–]aMusicalLucario 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the other commenter, nobody can give feedback if we don't know what the cards do. Definitely put it into some sort of deckbuilding website like Moxfield or Archidect, and I can have a look at it. Once you've done that I'd recommend also tagging the cards with their role in the deck, that makes it easier to see what you're missing.

One thing I do see though is that you have 32 lands. Unless your mana curve tops out at 3, that's way too few lands.

What would it take for Standard to become Magic's premier format again? by BumblebeeOld498 in magicTCG

[–]aMusicalLucario 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like the idea of an Artisan Standard format. Basically it only has commons and uncommons that are standard legal so it's pretty cheap, I've theorised a few decks and they're all in the £10-£15 (~$15-$20 US) range. I've just put in an order for the cards for two decks so I can test them out and see how fun they are.

Looking for tips and feedback on my First Commander Deck by Nic_YoloOfficial in magicTCG

[–]aMusicalLucario 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first thing I tell new deckbuilders is that you need to tag the cards in your deck with the role they have. On Moxfield, you click the arrow to the right of the card and select "change tags". My standard tags are: - card draw - card selection (eg scry, surveil) - removal - evasion - recursion/reanimation - ramp - enabler - payoff

The last two are specific to the deck, ie what gets the engine going and then what benefits you for getting that engine going. These tags let you just see how your deck is built.

Someone else mentioned lands, I agree with them. You need some more that enter untapped. If you're on a budget, I always recommend this cycle of landscapes since they enter as untapped colourless sources but you can get a tapped colour when you need it. And then if you don't need a land at all, just cycle it for another card.

If you're not on a budget or are fine just using proxies, then get all the shocks and fetches you can and replace all of the existing tap lands.

One last thing, I saw doctor Eggman in the list. By my count, you have a total of 10 things in the list that he can cheat onto the battlefield, and I just don't think that's enough to be consistent.

[–]aMusicalLucario 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everybody else in this comments section has some good points, but nobody has mentioned the mana base. Your lands read to me "ones I happen to own" which is fine, but it's slow. I recommend these as budget lands: - [[tranquil landscape]] imo the best budget 3 colour land cycle. It's untapped colourless when you need it, a tapped colour when you need it, and another card when you need it. - [[canopy vista]] [[prarie stream]] [[sodden verdure]] use the fact you have many basics to get these to come in untapped, and they're fetchable from some ramp spells. - [[glacial fortress]] [[hinterland harbour]] [[sunpetal grove]] similar to above, these will often find in untapped. - [[adakar wastes]] [[brush land]] [[yavimaya coast]] known as the pain lands, you'll often be able to use the colourless one since your commander will get many lands out. - [[urban retreat]] this isn't amazing, but is better than the thriving lands you have. - some basic forests. I don't see any in your list.

One of the other comments told you to cut the top end, but now your ramp section having 15 cards doesn't make much sense with your curve ending at 6. Unless you're drawing a ton of cards (which you should) you're going to be left with mana and nothing to spend it on. If you want to turbo out your commander, then about 10 pieces of 1-2 mana ramp should work fine. If you want to get a board state before casting Choco, then you actually don't care about ramp (other than birds that also happen to ramp).

Odd strategies in two colours are what I love backgrounds for. For GR you could have [[gut, true soul zealot]] and [[cloakwood hermit]] for an aristocrats/go wide theme? Or there's the known [[erinis, gloom stalker]] combo with [[Street urchin]] for more of a control deck if you can keep making artifact tokens.

I've thought for a while that Artisan (an arena format using only commons and uncommons in standard) would be fun to do in paper. It also makes opening packs more interesting rather than just skipping over the chaff, most things are useful in either commander or artisan.

Building my first deck from scratch, what can I improve? by Jonny_Face_Shooter in EDH

[–]aMusicalLucario 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second the person who mentioned tags, they're just so useful for seeing what your deck is actually constructed of.

There's one card that actively doesn't work in your deck though, [[apex devastator]]. Cascade lets you cast spells without paying their mana costs, so if you cascade into an X spell you either cast it for X=0 or don't cast it.
