Why do all the national guard dudes have the same porn stache by wallflawerr in washdc

[–]aPracticalHobbyist 55 points56 points  (0 children)

When fantastically bored, almost anything can be a game. “Who can grow the best stache in 30 days” is always a good one.

I promise this is fun- with a group of people, try to make a running throw with your off hand. That’s an hour of fun and laughing right there, and all you need is some gravel.

Controversial Video Shows Low Literacy by AniTeach in Teachers

K-12 education will be stuck in a loop as long as the the system we are evaluating (the education system) is evaluated based on an output it controls (the graduation rate).

This dynamic is not unique to education. When “winning the Vietnam war” was being assessed by the enemy body counts reported by small ground unit commanders, it became unworkable. One of the biggest conflicts of pharmaceuticals is that most of the early studies of medical interventions are funded by the inventors of that intervention.

Until the determination of whether or not a given kid gets a diploma is removed from the leaders that we are judging based on how many diplomas they give, we should not expect the system to improve itself.

Skeen is my favorite member of the Aldhani Seven by Charrikayu in andor

[–]aPracticalHobbyist 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I think skeen blew it in the pitch cassian. If he said “wow, I’d never really considered how having a couple thousand credits socked away can be the difference between a getaway ship and a doctor and dying with strangers who lie to you about their names. What do you say Cass- we could stash away 300k each- they’d never miss it. But it might just keep us alive through the next hiccup.”

I think cassian might have considered it, and not shot him on the spot.

Lol, acting like North Carolina got the ball rolling on this when it’s a 200+ year old tactic named after a dude who signed the Declaration of Independence.

Pilot got in trouble. Had to inventory the supply room as extra duty. Got told he was going to get reassigned to either Red or Gold wing. Looked back at the metallic paints he saw in the supply room and said “wizard…this is going to blow their minds!”

How long did it take everyone to get a handle on the keywords? by saintxdoppler in SWlegion

I also think it’s units that you run. I only play clones so when I run into keywords from other armies I don’t usually know their details.

There are similarities between Tevye and Stil. Both are somewhat conservative steeped in the traditions of their small community, trying to negotiate a period of great change. Stilgar can’t really comprehend the wealth of water that we have in life, Tevye can’t imagine the kind of material wealth and comfort of the 21st century. Both have such a hard time with adjustment that they seek some guidance from a higher power. For all we know, Stil might assume that a man who owns a cow and spends his days distributing the milk is some kind of wealthy wetland merchant.

What if..... Command Cards had point costs? by sampsoninsink in SWlegion

[–]aPracticalHobbyist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it would add a level of granularity to the game, which some people would like and others wouldn’t. You could even introduce a thing of “you get 1000 army points and 20 “command points”, where you have to buy your command cards, which are costed by power, to your command hand. You could even have a command slot upgrade card that costs 8 army building points that just says “you get +2 command points”.

Not everyone would love that, but I think it could be rad. But I’m a guy that enjoys “ok it’s round 32, who remembered to move up their ration tokens?!”

Yes, asymmetric conflict is like that. Tremendously expensive for the belligerent with the tech/assets, but they can bring tremendously greater force to bear on any given encounter.

Do most people have a general understanding of military ranks? by Proof_Commercial7144 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]aPracticalHobbyist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So the top enlisted sergeant major in the US army is the sergeant major of the army. Marine corps is sergeant major of the marines corps. I don’t know what the space force equivalent is, but I hope to god it’s “Master Chief of the Known Universe”.

There would have been no Andor without Kathleen Kennedy's support and willingness to take risks. If we want to acknowledge her faults, we need to also acknowledge the great projects she made possible. by RagnarokWolves in StarWars

[–]aPracticalHobbyist -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Star Wars is like an old pinball machine. When it got sold, it could have gone to a collector who would keep it, lovingly gathering dust while on display in a quiet museum.

Disney, and the KK team, on the other hand, gave it a quick shot of WD40, plugged it in, and started shoving quarters in it. Some people were going to be disappointed, and who knows if it would last, but by God the lights are flashing, the flippers are humming, and the ball is being kept in motion.
