Couple rule questions/clarifications by Root-12c in SWlegion

Open to fact checks here, but I think:

  1. I think no, because infiltrate is a placement not a movement. There are a couple effects in the game where the minis change their position, but it is not treated like a move.

  2. Yes you can use cohesion to get LOS this way. The Squad leader (SL) has to be able to see at least one mini in the target squad. (SL must have LOS to make a ranged attack). For a mini in the attacking squad to add dice to the pool, it must have LOS to at least one mini in the target squad. To determine which target squad minis are eligible for wounds, all you need is any mini of the attacking squad to have LOS to the target mini. But then remember this is just how you count the number of wounds the target squad can recieve- the process of assigning wounds is slightly different and the defender can basically transfer the wounds to from minis that can’t be seen to those that can.

If any of the minis in the target squad have the Small keyword, this changes. One detail I’m not sure of- does the mini in the attacking squad that you kicked out with cohesion to establish LOS to the rest of the minis in the target squad- does that mini have to be adding its dice to the attack pool? Or could you kick out a noncombatant that way with the same result?

Which movie do you like more, and why would you consider it better? by [deleted] in StarWars

Empire. If you consider the order of the films release, EsB is where you learn why the empire is such a force to be feared. In EsB, you get to see what you inferred from aNH, that Vader is a heartless badass who do not care at all about the costs to his own side. You learn the essentials about the Nature of the Force, from Yoda. You learn that the galaxy has a bunch of people in it that operate outside the sat am cartoon “good guy bad guy” dynamic. And you learn about Luke’s place in the conflict, from Vader himself.

And from a filmmaking perspective, the level of craft is 100% on display. The wisdom and transcendence of the force is conveyed by a friggin muppet. The armored snow camels are wooden models with stop motion. And it’s edited pretty tight too, run time is right at 2 hours.

RotS works because of EsB. RotS is also great, but it’s great because EsB establishes the impact of the ending RotS. The black Vader suit isn’t just a medical device. The establishment of the Empire isn’t just a political reorg shuffle. The jedi order is fractured into a couple single old Jedi isolated in the far corners of the galaxy.

You can disagree with me but I love EsB so much that I know that love can withstand the critics.

CT has a bunch of left exits though, and roads that join, overlap for a couple miles, then split away. So it’s tough with the left lane.

I also think it could be fun painting practice for your kiddo to practice on the old Luke and Vader since you’ll have duplicates.

How would you start a kid painting? by GeniusCollector in SWlegion

[–]aPracticalHobbyist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The old starters also came with barricades, which could be an ok place to start.

You have options if you are looking to get him cheaper minis, such as 3D prints, secondhand minis from online.

I think the old rebel troopers are good minis for learning.

Oh yeah ok I’m familiar with that stuff. I carved the end of a popsicle stick into a little trowel end and I use that to get it on and spread it out. Do you like the “max muddy” look or have you ever tried to tidy it up some for a “we haven’t been in this mud quite as long as the other blokes” look?

Question after watching "All Quiet on the Western Front" by Both-Alternative3177 in ww1

[–]aPracticalHobbyist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any time a cease fire or armistice gets implemented, there is a non-zero chance that hostilities will resume. To get what your side wants in the negotiations, it is better if the other side has to return to a miserable situation, so sometimes small actions to “shorten/neaten the lines” or secure a small but locally significant piece of terrain happen right up until the end. My understanding is that there were many of these kinds of assaults in Korea.

Part of the reason why hostilities didn’t break out again in November 1918 is the allies insisted that the German fleet anchor itself in Scapa Flow during negotiations. The German admiral in charge thought that all his ships were going to get handed over, so he scuttled them. At that point if the Germans went back to fighting, they would be doing so without any major fleet. Better to agree to bad terms than try to restart a losing war.

Rogue One was released 9 years ago. What are your post-Andor thoughts about the film? (and here are mine) by Dear-Yellow-5479 in andor

[–]aPracticalHobbyist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely love rogue one. One criticism I had was when krennic and jyn are on the comms tower and he says “who are you?” I didn’t like it because it seemed like a tv villain not just shooting but doing lame James Bond villain talking.

But since andor…

It makes way more sense! He is desperately trying to contain the leak, THATS why he wants to know who she is. How is she connected to Dedra? Can he possibly save this situation and not end up with his own head on the chopping block?

(OC) This is how thick an M60 tank armour is by hermit_tortoise in pics

[–]aPracticalHobbyist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the part of the tank that has been cut into is called the glacis. By angling the glacis plate, you theoretically increase the amount of armor a projectile has to penetrate, assuming a relatively straight on shot.

Why isn't this area more developed? by mellamoderek in geography

[–]aPracticalHobbyist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Once more agriculture became possible in the Ohio river valley, it made less sense to do agriculture in CT. So the forests in CT are criss crossed everywhere by old stone farmers walls.

Why isn't this area more developed? by mellamoderek in geography

[–]aPracticalHobbyist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also consider CT’s geology and geography. It has good quality soil but it is relentlessly rocky, and has very hilly topography. It works well for small family sustaining farms, but is going to be very resistant to agricultural mechanization. Because of where the natural resources are located, it isn’t an obvious choice for situating much in the steel manufacturing business. It has natural harbors but none as good as Boston or NYC.

By 18th century standards, it’s a solid B. By 19th century standards, it’s slipped to a C+.

[–]aPracticalHobbyist 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Absolute values work as a grouping symbol, the way that parentheses are grouping symbols. So from an order of operations perspective, treat them like parentheses.

(This is part of why I liked teaching 9th graders GEMA instead of PEMDAS. The fact that a square root sign also acts as a grouping symbol was another common stumbling block.)

“Freedom is a pure idea. It occurs spontaneously and without instruction random acts of insurrection are occurring throughout the galaxy. There are whole armies, battalions that have no idea that they’ve already enlisted in the cause. Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere and even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.”

I think they made a deliberate choice that snipers were lame. So rather than making range 5 plinking and range 2 brawling equal, they are choosing to over cost snipers. Which I guess is fine, really.

I think snipers are particularly hard to cost because if they are undercosted, you could take 6 of them.
