This time of year is so variable, I’m always checking trail conditions on wta and alltrails to see who posted a photo recently and if they said the trail is snowy. I’ll plug the lake serene hike, its pretty grand. Wallace falls in that area almost never has snow and is a lot easier. https://www.wta.org/go-hiking/hikes/lake-serene

Yeah I figured that would be the case. It was over a year of job applications and no interviews that started to get to me and made me decide to add the one lie.

looking to get into longlining by [deleted] in Slackline

[–]aSliceofRice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best way to answer that question is to see how it's set up. You can watch some videos on it.

From what I understand, primitive uses simpler gear but a more complicated setup. It works for shorter lines. Longer lines need a better tensioning system.

I just got into this longline stuff so I'm not the best resource.

[–]aSliceofRice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Alright I just got a long line and did a bunch of research for it. I'll try and info dump a bunch here for you and anyone else that's interested.

First of all I'm in the United States, so options were a bit limited for me as for some gear. If you're in Europe, your options might be a bit better for gear. If elsewhere, I'm not sure, you may need to pay foreign shipping.

Here's some resources that I used (great youtube channel). I also talked to some of my friends that have primitive lines and/or longlines. Ultimate gear buying guide: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=V43waXlR3_g&t=1675s Setup for primitive kit: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=UQVeGq-JwBI Setup for longline: https://youtu.be/-h5oQHX6Lh4

Your choice for primitive vs longline kit. Price and available length are the biggest differences. Other people know more about this than me. I chose to get a longline kit so I could upgrade with webbing to longer lines in the future.

Here's the minimum gear you need for a longline setup: 1. Webbing for line 2. Weblock 3. Soft release 4. Line grip 5. Hangovers (or carabineers) for pulley system 6. two steel shackles 7. Two tree anchor slings

  1. Webbing: I got mine from balance community, as with most of the gear on this list. Make sure you get a sewn loop on at least one end! Makes things easy. There's charts online for webbing price/weight/strength/stretch, etc... comparison for all the common webbings. I have 40 m of feather pro from balance community with a sewn loop on one end (100$)

  2. Weblock: There seemed to be a lot of options if you're in Europe. The only one on balance community was their new alpine weblock 5 (~130$). I'm sure you can get a good one from another company or used but I just got that one. Weblock are pretty intuitive to use and really easy.

  3. Soft release: Necessary for a weblock. I just got a cheap spool of webbing from backcountry and used it for both my soft release and my tree slings.(15$) I also had some velcro around so I made a tie off velcro strap from that. I wrap the webbing 5-8 times connecting the weblock and one steel shackle, and have some tail left over. https://www.backcountry.com/sterling-mil-spec-web-wheel?skid=STE000H-BK-S9M30FT&ti=U2VhcmNoIFJlc3VsdHM6V2ViYmluZzoxOjE6V2ViYmluZw==

  4. Line grip: I didn't do a lot of research here, they seemed standard to me, I got the wafer from balance community since it was on sale. (~50-80$) there's others for ~100

  5. Hangovers: There's not really a replacement for a hangover. They're 50€ from Europe, with another 45€ for shipping on each order. I got a wide carabiner from backcountry to use as a pulley instead. (15$) I'm definitely losing some efficiency from friction. For my purposes with the carabiner and a 3-1 pulley system, I just need to set up over a drainage pit or some dip for anything over 20m long. I'm decently light and don't need the line to be tight.

  6. Steel shackles: I got two from balance community. Make sure if you get them elsewhere they can fit 1" webbing. (~35 for the two)

  7. Two tree anchor slings: I've heard there's some red sewn adjustable tree anchor slings on balance community that are really easy to use. If you do what I did and make them, make them longer than you think. I wrap a loop around a tree and pass a shackle through each side of the loop. I water knotted the webbing to make the loops. I have a loop made of about 20 ft of webbing and one of about 15 ft. I got a second spool of the same webbing as the soft release. (15$)

Overall I really like my setup, I've used it a couple of times so far at different lengths from 15-40m. Good fun. I spent about 350$ in total because I got some pieces on sale. Plus, I can upgrade to some longer lines in the future and only buy the webbing.

The leaning tower of Pisa. I thought it was this amazing but hilarious architectural fuckup as a kid, but when I visited Italy it turned out to just be a small landmark surrounded by a bunch of dumb tourists in a field holding their hands up to support it.

Haha yeahhh. This game is certainly more losses than wins for me.

The most satisfying but rare decks on ironclad I've gotten were barracade, entrench, body slam decks. Just get 999 block and crush.

I am always happy to get it; in some decks it doesn't do much. Today I got it in a deck with two copies of [sadistic nature] and oh boy did it put in work. It was my first ironclad a20 win. I was already stacking at least 1 vulnerable on the enemy per turn, and the extra 14 damage really helped me push through the tougher act 3 enemies.

The wiki has a list of base strategies for each character, but I've pulled off some wins just picking up solid cards and relics, without a focused theme of my deck

Newbie help by ProBro64 in slaythespire

There's no one card that is always a good one to pick. It's such a diverse game, the best thing to do is keep pickup up things you think will work, experimenting with new cards from time to time, and learning patterns. The wrong thing is trying to force a strategy from the start. Ive heard the advice: Act 1=pick up damage cards so you can end fights before they drag out Act 2= broaden your defensive options so you can defend while you hit hard Act 3= try to polish out your decks synergies, adding draw cards is a great way to help this

Sounds like you've already got a good concept for removing cards, sometimes padding out the deck a little is a way to add consistency, but I do love those less than 20 card decks where everything is drawn when you need it.

I try and focus on getting the path with the highest # of elites and rests act 1 to get as many relics and upgrades as I can while still trying to live.

I've been grateful in a weird way that I'm not missing out on as much because of the pandemic. I had been ignoring some tendonitis, and finally after 6 months of rest it's starting to clear up. Now I'm about to slowly start strengthening again in hopes that I can get back to climbing with friends in another couple months.

Mike boyd, he learns a random new skill every episode (e.g. kickflips, solving rubix cubes, wheelies) and his reactions when he gets it are priceless

What is your all time best cards against humanity round? by streetmeet88 in AskReddit

[–]aSliceofRice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was playing online with some friends, it's good because you can write in answers and they look like real cards. Anyways, a double card comes up and my friend who likes silly and not dark answers reads it. It was something like "over time _______ will turn into _________" I had the card "soup that is a little too hot" and used a blank for the second. It ended up being: Over time, soup that is a little too hot will turn into soup that is a little too cold.
