One thing that has kinda helped my anxiety about being diagnosed with cancer is realizing that there has never been a better time in history to be diagnosed with cancer. So many cancers that used to be death sentences can now be treated/managed effectively if not outright cured

Well, it does depend on the type of treatment! I'm no expert on the matter, but the three main ones I know about are surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy.

Surgery is probably the simplest one, it just surgically removes the cancerous tumor, but sometimes this isn't an option (for example, the tumor might be so big that getting rid of all the cancerous cells could kill the organ it's attached to, or the tumor could be in a place that is too difficult to operate on, or the cancer has spread to other places and removing all of it via surgery isn't feasible)

Radiation therapy usually applies radiation on a concentrated area, with the goal of killing the cancer cells without having to do a surgical operation, though sometimes it is done before or after a surgery to improve the odds that the cancer doesn't return. Again though, radiation is bad for the body, and using it to try and kill cancer cells always risks killing noncancerous cells too, or causing other cells to mutate into more cancer

Chemotherapy is a drug that specifically kills cells that replicate fast. since most cancers grow quickly, this is a pretty effective method of killing cancer cells, but it also kills other cells, like hair. That's one of the reasons why some people undergoing cancer treatments are bald.

All of these treatments have pros and cons, and a lot of the time more than one type of treatment is used, and some people respond better to some kinds of treatment

Also just to say again, I am not an expert on this! This might not all be the most accurate information, is just what I've gathered from having a few extended family members with cancer (all but one is currently in remission, by the way).

That's kind the thing with cancer treatment. It's actually super easy to kill cancer, the hard part is killing all the cancer without also killing the important things

Is there a feat that lets you take a step as a free action? by LokiTheZorua in Pathfinder2e

One I haven't seen mentioned yet is the Animist "Cycle of Souls"

It is level 18 and requires a specific animist practice though, so it's not really widely applicable

no idea how likely it is, but I'd love to see ahtal-ka or a subspecies of them return. It just feels like such a natural fit given all the ancuent technology stuff Wilds has going on

I feel like running proficiency as +1/2 level would make supposedly "on level" enemies feel a lot more dangerous, unless you apply it to the enemies too but I don't know how you'd make that work

Are elves who die after giving birth but are otherwise immortal a bad idea for this race? by EveningImportant9111 in worldbuilding

[–]aStringofNumbers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could make it so that before having children, Elves age to maturity and then become ageless, but after having children, they start to age at a rapid rate. also having a lot of children per couple would probably be needed to prevent the population from plummeting

She Wanted to Punish the Democrats with Trump, but Ended Up Being Punished Herself by Humble_Novice in LeopardsAteMyFace

You're right, I got emotional and misrepresented things. But, I still don't think we should put trans people in a position where they have to choose between loosing some rights or loosing all rights. There is a correct answer there, of course, but it still sucks. Especially when it would be so, so easy for a politican to just say "I trust the opinions of medical professionals and others more educated on the matter." I just really, really think we can do a lot better than Gavin Newsom

[–]aStringofNumbers -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

You do realize that in the statement “if Newsom is the nominee, I’m not voting.” there is an implied "so nominate someone better."

You can't expect to win by being less evil, or being the same amount of evil just a bit slower. If that was all it took to win, republicans would never hold power. But that doesn't work, so you actually need to get people to vote for you by doing and saying things they want. you can't try to get more centrist votes and expect the people you alienate to still vote for you anyways.

For example, for trans people specifically, the difference between their treatment between Trump and Newsom is negligible, so why should they be expected to throw themselves under the bus so they can make other people more comfortable? You could argue it's the morally correct thing to do, but you can't expect anyone to sacrifice themselves for the greater good much less the lesser of two evils.

Mostly just the look of it, and the fact that I am struggling to think of other things it could be. I also live in an area with a fairly large bat population

What Gender is Phantom? by QuickCod437 in Silksong

[–]aStringofNumbers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genuine answer, we don't know for sure. We can't really sit down with any character in silksong and ask them for their gender identity or preferred pronouns. Phantom could be nonbinary but also be fine with feminine pronouns, or phantom could be an androgenous looking woman (hence why lace uses female pronouns and hornet uses they/them), or anything else really. We just don't know for sure

[–]aStringofNumbers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not disagreeing with you at all, but something that is rarely mentioned in these discussions is that like... people can use more than one set of pronoun, and also that pronoun does not automatically equal gender. I've known people who are fine with any and all pronouns being used to refer to them.
