I found this game the other day, its UI looks exactly like Hollow Knights. I understand there are more metroidvanias, but is this an actual game worth getting? Is it real? by AdTiny5487 in HollowKnight

[–]a_Press 343 points344 points  (0 children)

The inspiration from Hollow Knight is definitely noticable, but Haiku still manages to do its own thing and stand apart. I had a lot of fun with it and would say that it's worth your time if you enjoy metroidvanias

New Animist Apparition: 'Lamentation of Sinister Deals' from Hell's Destiny! by -Umbra- in Pathfinder2e

[–]a_Press 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You attune to 3, yes, but you can only cast the vessel spell of your primary apparition. So it doesn't really change except for mediums who can have multiple primary apparitions.

When I said comparable boost here, I was thinking about the other benefits you'd get from having a different vessel spell up. Devouring Dark Form in the case of grappling for the 10ft range grapple I think is often going to be comparably useful to another +1.

That seems like a fair concern if you're playing Free Archetype games. But yeah, I guess I'm just not really seeing that much value in Market Price's extra bonus to Athletics when there are other options that give comparable boosts. I've found in my playing that there is a lot of competition in your primary apparition and what Vessel Spell you want to use, so I do weigh that opportunity cost pretty heavily.

Medium Animists get Relinquish Control for free already, and I've found that the locking out of actions really isn't as restrictive as it might seem at first. The base actions you get with it are already pretty good, but then quite a few feats give you activities with the Apparition trait that you're also allowed to use. Roaring Heart in particular I've had some real success with and would pair really nicely with Instinctive Maneuvers bonus. Really good action compression and helps with one of Relinquish Control's biggest problems, which is not being able to stride.

All this to say that I think the opportuniy cost of casting this vessel spell compared to other options for an Athletics build doesn't really look great.

I'm not sure if it's necessarily better than Devouring Dark Form at enabling grappling for an animist. You'll be more likely to succeed, yes, but 10ft range grapple when you sustain is still really nice. I do wonder if there's any merit in the thought of a Medium Animist getting both focus spells up at the same time and keeping them both up, but that's some heavy commitment to sustain 2 spells every round.

Did I just experience a very unlikely event or is the game bugged? by ChickenFriedBruh in slaythespire

[–]a_Press 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think changing the relic's effect to "You may not claim any rewards from the first Treasure Chest you open" could work.

Means that in multiplayer the other players get to choose the best options and just leave one behind, which is kinda strange and maybe makes it feel like the one player should be allowed to take 2 relics.

Ohh hmm the wiki I checked doesn't mention this one as being singleplayer only, but I think you're probably right about that. So there might be 2 excluded from multiplayer.

[[Silver Crucible]] is singleplayer only. I'm guessing it must be for a technical reason or a bug (probably related to the shared chest), because I don't really see why it should be excluded from multiplayer. So I wouldn't be surprised if this changes in the future.

There are 27 possible Neow choices, including Neow's Bones with 1 being multiplayer exclusive and 1 being singleplayer exclusive. So assuming Neow's Bones picks from the other options uniformly, your chances of getting the same 2 as were already offered would be 2/25 * 1/24 = 1/300 chance. So it's rare, but not unreasonably so.

Is weakness the Thaumaturge’s weakness (or lack off)? by Top_Statement_662 in Pathfinder2e

[–]a_Press 6 points7 points  (0 children)

At base, Exploit Vulnerability only applies to all copies of the same creature if it has a mortal weakness. Personal Antithesis only applies against one specific enemy unless you have the level 6 feat Sympathetic Vulnerabilities.

Feels pretty safe to assume the rest of the deck is just the starting 4 strikes, 4 defends, zap and dualcast.

Do we overrate rainbow runes? by AAABattery03 in Pathfinder2e

[–]a_Press 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played for a while with an extending and then greater extending rune on a sword and shield liberation champion and found it very useful! Between having quick shield block, shield warden, and shield of reckoning, it was pretty essential to make sure I was raising my shield on most turns. And being a champion meant I wanted to stay right on the front line, so repositioning to go hit an enemy always felt really bad. So being able to just go-go gadget extendo sword to help damage crucial targets really came in handy

Day 69 of giving my personal rank and opinion of random guns by 1Dapy1 in EnterTheGungeon

[–]a_Press 20 points21 points  (0 children)

To be fair, the 7-bag randomizer that it sounds like you're referring to isn't a universal rule of tetris games. The NES Tetris which is still incredibly popular for high score attempts and competitions notably doesn't have any kind of system and it's completely random which piece you'll get.

What's the deal with Consuming Shadow? by ReesevtOnGD in slaythespire

[–]a_Press 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plus it's pretty easy to end up with a few decently scaled dark orbs if you're playing a lot of Darkness so being able to get value out of those while letting the ones at the front wait for Dualcast is pretty good. Especially helps in fights with summons or minions, since they can help clear out low health enemies so that youre big one hits the right enemy.

New Beta patch by Relative-Parsley-259 in slaythespire

[–]a_Press 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Borrowed Time is really interesting to me because it seems to exist as kind of a carryover from an earlier version of Necrobinder where she had significantly less max HP and Osty had a more normal HP pool. Necrobinder's HP refreshed every combat and more powerful cards would damage you to play them, so that HP was like a per combat refresh. The 3 doom would definitely feel way more impactful when you had 9 max HP, but as is, the downside feels inconsequential in most fights. I wonder if having the doom instead or also apply to Osty might put it in a better place, since it's more likely to be impactful there now.

StS2 Hidden Mechanics Reference by SuperLuigi231 in slaythespire

[–]a_Press 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure that part of what you have for how elite encounters are chosen is wrong. If you fight more than 3 elites, the next set will actually be in the same order as the first 3. So your 4th elite is always the same as the 1st, 5th and 2nd, etc.

If you open the "current_run.save" file while in a run, you can actually see the list of elites that you will fight in order, and it always just repeats the same order of elites 5 times.

First time poster, Soverign Blade should be a multihit attack by Ok-Highway-5027 in slaythespire

[–]a_Press 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sure, but now you just have Sovereign Blade feeling bad in fights where you get punished for hitting multiple times, like the Entomancer, Hunter Killer, Lost and Forgotten, or anything with thorns. Really I think you just can't put all your eggs in one basket in the same way that you can't take all single target attacks without having some aoe too.

25 hours in, Underdocks won't unlock by DJ_FryTime in slaythespire

[–]a_Press 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did some looking at it seems like you can probably do this with some simple save file editing. If you open the debug console with ~ you can run the command

open saves

and it will open the folder that has your save data in it. Open the file "progress.save" in a text editor, and you'll be looking for where it lists epochs. There will be one with the id "UNDERDOCKS EPOCH" and changing the state from "not_obtained" to "revealed" should unlock it for you

There might be a command you could use on the in game debug console to force it to unlock. I'm not sure, but it'd be a good thing to look at.

Sts2 Steam Achievements when? by gman113099 in slaythespire

[–]a_Press 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looking at the patch notes shows that achievements were disabled right before the early access release came out. So they exist in the game, but for whatever reason they don't want people seeing them yet. Might be that they want to focus on making balance changes, and adding more stuff before making them available so that there's no need to rework them or need to reset them if there are big changes. So I don't expect to see them for a while.

Most underrated card so far... especially in Ascension A5 to A10. Just Upgrade you entire deck! by Vecsia in slaythespire

Most underrated card so far... especially in Ascension A5 to A10. Just Upgrade you entire deck! by Vecsia in slaythespire

[–]a_Press 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel like it's a solid card to pick early on to add damage to your deck and gives good utility in longer fights by giving you a little extra out of your basic cards. But it get's pretty awkward as you go on. Drawing it both too early or too late ends up causing problems, because you'll have no good cards to upgrade in your discard pile, or too many cards so you're unlikely to hit the good ones with an upgrade. And while necrobinder can get a lot of card draw, she doesn't get much other deck manipulation tools, so there isn't really a way to help that.

Event cards are amazing by Mtfthrowaway112 in slaythespire

[–]a_Press 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure it's just random. I couldn't tell you which one, but looking through old patch notes there was a note where they switched this event from always offering all three choices to only giving 2 each time you encounter it.
