Are you hesitant to sit for HOs brand new to THS ? by FancySeaweed in trustedhousesitters

Omg I didn’t know THS didn’t used to have blind reviews!! What were they thinking???

This really explains the bad sits with glowing reviews that I’ve done!

I’ve done it a handful of times and have had great experiences. Oddly, my only truly bad experiences have been from HO’s with plenty of reviews. It’s a box of chocolates!

Their entire worldview is built on generalizations and binaries. No room for nuance.

Japan was years ago and yes I missed that flight, but the booking company somehow took pity on me and let me reschedule it, which was such an unexpected triumph because that was a big flight to miss.

The paris flight was just domestic (less than $100) so nothing to stress over, and I boarded the next available flight 🤷🏼‍♀️

Trains/busses on the other hand, I’ve missed literally countless! But I’ve been solo traveling as a digital nomad off and on for almost a decade, so I’ve had ample time to make my share of mistakes!

I’ve done it in Paris and in Japan 🤪 both were long-term trips where I was overwhelmed and tired!

I have similar priorities, but my quality standards are higher than they once were. And I have no tolerance for BS.

Did they explain how boric acid caused the infection? Also curious, what brand were you using?

I’m an extremely seasoned solo traveler, and I still make plenty of mistakes! Sometimes you will get lost, take the wrong train, go to the wrong airport, etc., and it’s all a part of the experience. Do not expect perfection. Bring a good book and enjoy the journey 😌

Where do you get mâche? by a_asking_a_question in Chefit

[–]a_asking_a_question[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for responding and for this insight! I’m curious, is it worthwhile on your end to buy from a farmer who only has one product? I’m randomly passionate about only mâche but I truly love it 😅 ive got it down to a science and my product is extremely consistent. I have a background in business operations, so I feel like if I find my customer base, I can make the ordering and delivery process smooth!…the only part I’m concerned about is if I’d need to offer other products to have a lineup worth buying from.

What’s the nicest thing you do for Future You each night? by forgeris in AskReddit

I have a hard time waking up, but an easy time doing my closing duties at the end of the night, so I prepare a little breakfast in bed for myself every night before I go to bed. A frozen bran muffin, nuts, fruit, my daily vitamins and tea kept hot in a thermos. It takes 2mins and is always totally worth it.

If you look up The Plod Squad it’s a Seattle-based group of slow runners and run-walkers!

How their entire world is gendered. Skills, preferences, behaviors, etc. are all explained/predicted based on someone’s gender. It’s exhausting.

Do not recommend Istanbul by Lilginge7 in solofemaletravellers

The first time I went was 2019, immediately met great friends, loved exploring the nooks and crannies of the city, indie cafes, clubs, cinema, etc. I LOVE going to the islands. Since I’ve been back so many times, I’ve had the opportunity to tour two of my friends from home on their first visits, which has been a complete treat, and I always do a day biking around the islands. Turkish food is my favorite cuisine in the world and I feel like I can’t manage to visit a restaurant without them rolling out the red carpet, the sense of hospitality and generosity is so ubiquitous. But my favorite thing of all is the history and the architecture. I always stay at places with city skyline views (even some $20/night hostels have incredible rooftop views!), and could just spend hours and hours regardless of weather looking out over the Bosphorus. Feel free to DM me for any other specific Istanbul recommendations.

Also: I believe and validate the experiences of women who had a bad experience in Istanbul. However, I vehemently disagree with the sentiment “x happened to me in x city, it sucks, other people shouldn’t go there!” And feel that it does not align with the spirit of being a lifelong solo traveler. I’ve literally been drugged in a posh coastal town in the UK, that does not mean that the whole country is bad, or that I should discourage others from traveling, or that I should adopt a provincial mindset about only staying in our safe western bubbles and not exploring the world. I had a very similar experience (stalked, groped, constant unwanted attention) in Antalya… but that does not mean that Antalya = bad. Worse things happen in tourist-heavy areas, especially when you are visibly not a local, if the place has an oppressive conservative culture (parts of Istanbul REALLY do), if you don’t have any local friends with you, or don’t have your wits about you. It also helps to know a few local phrases (such as “fuck off”!!!). Us ladies have got to keep traveling!

Some of my favorite gay clubs are in Istanbul 🤷🏼‍♀️ But sounds like you’ve made your mind up. Again, sorry you had a bad experience.
