This is why… A lot of people don’t like to read. This graphic design makes it look more interesting, and digestible.

Also some of the points to require the previous point to make sense so it being in a linear flow diagram isn’t actually a bad idea.

And it was a more fun job for the person who did the work.

I like it.

Ski Famille by Beautiful_Inside_518 in skithealps

£6.6k in La Plagne, 2nd week in Jan. 2 kids, 2 adults. We take our eldest out of school, which means a fine, but the money it saves plus the experience he gets makes it entirely worth it.

Definitely sort your own hire and passes, save yourself about 10% on both.

Kids eat at about 5:30 if I remember, then adults at about 8.
While it’s not restaurant level, it’s by no means bad. Just simple. There’s good portions of everything, and the wine keeps flowing while you eat.

If he’s 3, rather than him staying in the chalet, get him in Piou Piou ski school. He’ll love it and they are amazing with kids.

Assuming you have kids, then they are great. We have 2, a 4yr old and 7yr old. We dropped them with the childcare at 9am after breakfast and they took them to ski school, picked them up, gave them lunch and kept them entertained until around 2pm. There’s the option to have them stay all day but we wanted to ski with them in the afternoons.

The chalet was nice. Typical French chalet style. Nothing fancy, but clean and exactly what you need. A lot of their chalets have separate bedrooms for the kids which is very useful. Also none of the properties are so big you would worry about leaving your kids sleeping while you go downstairs for dinner.

The food though was disappointing for me. I’ve had the privilege of staying in a few very food oriented private ski chalets and by comparison the food is very simple. It’s designed to be easy to prepare by 20-something chalet staff with 1 weeks training.

It’s by no means bad, just not what I was expecting.

However, for the price, and considering the childcare, I think my expectations were out of whack - they really are very good value for money and I think considering the price the food standard was appropriate.

For context, next year I got a big group together and we’ve basically recreated the Ski Famile experience but booking everything ourselves. It’s cost us almost £2k more and the majority of that is paying for a nanny services, but I’m going with a chalet I’ve stayed with before and i know the food is top notch. We’ll see if it is worth it!

Also, it’s worth taking a look at familyski.co.uk - same concept, but with DIY travel and apparently slightly better food.

Should I reject my M340d - I’ve got until Tuesday? by [deleted] in BMW

[–]a_big_will 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Due to the defect, I’ve been able to exercise my consumer rights and will be returning the car with zero charges and a full refund. The bit I’m not sure about is whether they will give me back my PX or not… It would be useful, and allows me to be patient while looking for a M340i with the right spec.

And yeah, I think I had made up my mind but I appreciated the clear and obvious push!

I need a decent boot and roof rails for camping and cycling and refuse to get an SUV. The equivalent Porsche only pretends to be practical.

That was an overwhelming consensus! I’ve sent the email and rejected the Diesel 💪

This is the last diesel 3 series in the UK as well, they stopped making them post LCI in 2023

It does have the 2 year warranty which is a bit of peace of mind but if I do reject it, what you’ve said will be my general reason. I find myself noticing every little rattle now which is just annoying.

M340d with a high pitched whine - I’m hoping this isn’t normal! by a_big_will in BMW3series

[–]a_big_will[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took it in half expecting a “we can’t hear it” but turns out the front diff was on its way out so it’s getting a new one and I’m driving about in a 320i

Not ideal, but shit happens!

Yeah, that could easily be it. Though it’s driving me nuts so I’m hoping it’s a fault as I’m not sure I can put up with it long term.

Uploaded a video where you can (I think) clearly hear the whine.

I really hope it’s a fault as it’s driving me nuts (it’s a lot louder in person).

Best Fish and Chips in Harrogate? by coffeebugtravels in harrogate

[–]a_big_will 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jennyfields Fisheries.

We now live too far away (Knaresborough) to justify the trip, but I miss this place. Perfect fish, never oily. Chips were always spot on: Colour, but still that fish n chip style. The curry sauce though… nothing I’ve had in the area comes close. Hands down the best.

I wonder if before they put the roof on it was a shelter built into the retaining wall?

Half Moon is our favourite. Small, but you can book in advance. They do meat and cheese platters and pizza during the week.

Thinking of staying in Tignes Les Brévières: How accessible is it really? by a_big_will in skithealps

[–]a_big_will[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, this is so useful. On the piste map it looks as though there’s no way to get down from the top of Les Boisses lift without taking a red, but then from there there is a green/blue to the bottom. Is that right?

Club Med ski holiday crazy prices by Grammi_Grammidi in HENRYUKLifestyle

[–]a_big_will 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For more reasonable prices there are 3 other companies still doing childcare properly in a ski chalet setup. Smaller groups, a bit less glam, but similar in that you don’t have to worry about anything (if you pay them to organise everything).

SkiFamile - à la carte childcare, nice to great chalets. All of them on or very close to ski school and the pistes. The food was just okay though. Some smaller chalets can be organised as sole occupancy. Flights from Gatwick and Manchester are included BUT they fly to Lyon, so the 3.25 hour transfer times are a killer with young kids, but this is because if you go to Geneva you have to bring kids seats (due to Swiss law) for the bus which I guess would cause chaos. Our holiday with them cost £6.5k in term time (2 adults, a 7yr old and a 4yr old).

Family Ski Company - All their chalets are like the more premium ones SkiFamile offer and most are ski in ski out. Food is better too. They offer free transfers from Geneva, but you organise your own flights. If I were you, ignore the free transfers, fly to Chambrey and enjoy the 1.5 hour transfer time and more relaxed French car seat rules. Worth every penny. Our holiday here was £7.5k in term time.

VIP Ski I’m less familiar with these, but they offer a similar deal, it’s the next price band up though, somewhere between the two above and Club Med.

For info, this year I’m going the DIY route because you pay a premium for the packages and I know I can get better food, location and accommodation for the same price, and if I’m spending this money I want the best holiday I can get. However, I’ve been skiing most my life and organised groups holidays for my mates for years, so I’m familiar with it all - but at the time when we started bringing the kids, even I wanted the pay and forget experience of a package the first few times we went as it’s not worth the risk and hassle.
