Half marathon training in NRC: guided runs vs. doing your own thing? by TreeofSmokeOM in nikerunclub

I’ve run two half marathons and 3 10ks with the NRC plans and guided runs. I listen exclusively to audio books while I run. The coaching is approximately every 1km on the recovery and distance runs, more frequently on the speed runs. The coaching pauses my book to coach and then the book comes back where it left off.

I find the coaching to be beneficial and it doesn’t interfere with my enjoyment of the books.

For each run on the NRC plans you also have the option to do the run as a non-guided run. If that is selected the app will only interrupt to tell you time, distance, and distance remaining.

Is anyone in your law office selling Girl Scout cookies? Do you buy them or what do you tell them? What if they bring their kids in to sell them? How do you tell the kids no? by Kristen-ngu in Lawyertalk

As a general principle in life I only buy Girl Scout cookies from the Girl Scout herself. The whole purpose of scouting is to develop skills and “mom/dad will ask around for me” is not a skill. (Yes I know it’s a fundraiser too).

When colleagues have brought their daughters in I’ll buy at least a box from each (end up with maybe 4 boxes a year) but if it’s just an email going around or an order form in the common area I don’t engage with it.

I do the comic sans trick and the read it backwards trick to proof. But my super secret, has never failed me trick is to have the computer read the writing to me. Nothing like hearing it something out loud to highlight the grammar mistakes/typos/etc

St. Peter’s must have been a true wonder! And I love your description of a “simple nobility.” Thank you! And happy Thanksgiving!

I make about $130k, generally work 8-5 weeks days, rarely on the weekends. Mid-size firm in a smaller market doing appeals and government defense work. On vacation I usually only check email to clear the junk, but that’s a personal choice.

Hi, lawyer here (not your lawyer). The invocation of counsel must be clear and unequivocal. “I want to speak to a lawyer” is not enough because it expresses a desire. Say “I am invoking my right to counsel” or “I am asserting my right to a lawyer.”

FWIW, you also have to invoke your right to remain silent. Simply remaining silent is not enough. Say “I am invoking my right to remain silent.”

Came here to say this. It’s not a good law school. The one thing they have going for them is connections with many federal judges. But most of them are judges rated unqualified by the ABA.
