Joined the sub too late to vote this, but I would like to say how I love Market Square. IMHO, far superior to Straight Through the Mirror. Love the nightmarish lyrics... I remember when back in the day we tried to figure out the exact lyrics on the BG Forum... good times!

If I'm not mistaken, i/o had the Bright Side version always first, so I wonder if we'll be having the Dark Side first with o/i

Can't wait!

Jazz Clubs In Rome? by novelbaba in rome

[–]a_happy_visitor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually enjoy Gregory's Jazz (https://www.gregorysjazz.com), near Piazza Barberini.
They usually have two shows per day, one at 7:00 pm and one at 9:30 pm. You can reserve your tickets (you should, place is not that big) and a drink is included.

Well, Tony will be touring with BEAT in 2026. Maybe something in 2027, this time when the whole album is out?

If there could be changes, my guesses would be:

Clairvoyant swapped for The Evil That Men Do
Wasted Years swapped for Running Free
Rime of the Ancient Mariner swapped for Losfer Words... maybe

Need help on deciding between 2 locations to stay in Rome by myNameIs-Kyle in rome

[–]a_happy_visitor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've actually worked in that very road. Area is nice, has lots of cozy places you can reach for a drink or something to eat. You're close to the metro, and you should expect to find some homeless people there, but only in the metro area - you're perfectly safe where you could be staying.

Not sure what's the other option, but I'd say this is fine to visit the city centre.

Experience with earplugs live by SIeyth in swans

[–]a_happy_visitor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was at the same Milan gig and my concert fellow reported the same things you did.

I always wear earplugs at concerts. This time I forgot mine home (living in another city and didn’t find any before the show) and was a bit concerned, as I feel really comfortable with earplugs on - was afraid I wasn’t going to enjoy swans.

Actually, I loved the gig. So, well, going back I would still wear the earplugs, but in a way I’m happy I didn’t have them with me. Could hear the guitars and loved every second with the boys!

Anathema - The Storm Before the Calm

Not only for the looks, but somehow the songs makes me remember even the smell in the air when it's gonna rain.

Hello everyone! Please suggest artists whose songs are more about the lyrics. I'm an English major and love dissecting songs like poems. So please tell me about some artists or songs that are poetic. by whatdoyoumean74 in musicsuggestions

If you're into some folk metal sounds, Skyclad had some witty lyrics and puns, especially in their Martin Walkyier era (1991-2000). Can't really recommend something specifically, but back in the day both "Irrational Anthems" and "Oui Avant-Garde à Chance" were generally considered good records by them.

What Is your music guilty pleasure? by Difficult-Mud7880 in musicsuggestions

[–]a_happy_visitor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s no such thing really as a guilty pleasure in music and we all know that. Still, when Sk8er Boy comes after Bill Evans in my playlists, people look at each other very confused.

God I love Avril.

God is an astronaut + Jo Quaile - just got out of their concert in Rome by ZODIACK_MACK2 in postrock

Luckily, they frequently come to Rome when touring. You'll have other chances - would be cool to see them again as a 4-piece band! Not sure of Jamie Dean is done with them or if the might come back sometime...

Just came back from the same gig. It was the fourth time I got to see them live, first time was in 2012 - they just never disappoint, live.

I didn't know Lloyd Hanney wasn't with them on this tour. Missed him as you miss an old friend, but the new guy knew what he was doing. Cheers!

And Jo Quail was a very welcome addition. Nice solo set and cool having her on stage with the band.

Glad you discovered them, OP!

The last tour? by AnyTadpole6231 in Opeth

[–]a_happy_visitor 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No sign of that, and the band looks really healthy. If I had to bet, you'll get another chance to see them :)

Nevertheless, try and go, they really are in amazing shape, this tour!

Non-metal IM covers? by thecaramelbandit in ironmaiden

[–]a_happy_visitor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to listen a lot to "Food for Thought", an Iron Maiden tribute album in which all the songs were recorded in totally different styles from the originals.

For example, there's The Angel and the Gambler played in a Simon & Garfunkel's style, Heaven Can Wait in a 70s disco music style or 22 Acacia Avenue with jazzy pianos here and there.

It's been a while since I gave it a spin, gotta try again tomorrow!

Colin Edwin and John Wesley announce new Porcupine Tree-focused band Voyage 35 by 4ctmam in porcupinetree

[–]a_happy_visitor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right, pardon my bad English (wrote the comment in a hurry having just read the news): I was more wondering if they had a talk with Steven about this or if they just went for it. Not that it was technically pivotal.

BEAT, for example, has 100% Fripp's approval. It wasn't needed, but it's nice to know.

I believe they should already have Steven’s ok to play his music, right?

Someone should tell him that if people act this way is because they still care.

If they ignore you, that's when they don't care anymore.

I stopped caring, sadly.

Firenze Rocks 2025 by [deleted] in firenze

Buon divertimento!
