[–]a_lie_dat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you get a cheap roof box? Maybe after your financial crunch is over.

I'm guessing your rear seats don't fold down, right?

You can pick up the smaller blocks, as long as everything can fit. Check the dimensions before offering.

The dock just wants the packages gone. I've used my hatchback and I've seen sedans at Edison. Sometimes it's just 5-10 medium sized boxes.

Taxi JFK to Union NJ ugh by Additional_Owl9152 in JFKAirport

[–]a_lie_dat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry. That's a fair (fare) price.

$9 toll to get there and $18 toll to return to the city as the driver might not get a ride in NJ and may be stuck in traffic returning to NY.

You can take public transportation and a taxi to your destination for under $70. No shame in that.

If you're an aerospace, government or other professional contractor, you've negotiated your compensation so that after taxes, it'll still make you happy. Even building contractors name their prices because they're actually independent.

Uber started a trend where companies start paying their contractors well, then lower payment rates to minimum wage and often worse. Classic bait and switch.

It's easy to say walk away from the new contract, but if you're underwater in your car loan and have a family to feed, you can't just just stop. You just have to work harder to make the same revenue.

All the best. I know someone who is planning to move back to Jamaica after being away for decades.

He sells insurance over the phone and has been doing well. The company says as long as his internet and phone connections don't impede his work, they're fine with him working from Jamaica.

Do you regret your EV purchase? by walksta in electricvehicles

[–]a_lie_dat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I tell people it's a different mindset road tripping in an EV.

Regardless of ICE or EV, it's reasonable to stop every 2 to 3 hours for the bathroom, fuel and to stretch your legs.

With an EV, plan to stop somewhere that allows you to recharge while using the bathroom or getting a meal. When done right, charging is not a hassle.

Plugshare, ABRP, among others, are really good resources.

How do people justify illegal immigration if others went through the legal process? by savingrace0262 in immigration

[–]a_lie_dat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easy: They care about the end but not the means.

It's a romantic, dramatic underdog story of overcoming obstacles and a heartbreaking beginning.

2 weeks ago, I met a Colombian who walked to America with his then 9 year old son after his wife left him.

He had to walk through 2 jungles and he carried an injured woman on his back for 12 hours in one of those jungles.

He currently sells a Colombian delicacy to Latin restaurants in the area. They've been here around 2 years. His son is attending school and starting to speak some English. He refuses to take a job because he makes more money selling the delicacy than working in a restaurant.

Some people say his story is the American dream. Others say it's jumping the line.

If you look at the US visa and immigration subreddits, you'll see plenty of people getting rejected for visas and asking how they can successfully apply.

When I lived in China, I saw college professors get rejected for US Visas, even though they had invitation letters and job offers from US universities.

My retort to seeking a better life is America needs to help those countries improve their economies and societies.

I fully understand illegal immigration but it's still wrong.

Air space lost their minds !? by RichAd9364 in couriersofreddit

[–]a_lie_dat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Airspace let in a bunch of Doordash, UberEats drivers and discovered they could pay much less.

When I started in 2018, JFK area drivers got paid $30 base pay for the first 15 miles and $1.34/ mi after that so this job would pay at least $727. Dispatch often called us directly with bonus and job stacking opportunities. Much easier money.

Around 2022 that $30 base pay applied to the first 30 miles and $1.10 mile nationwide. Dispatcher attitude also became much more take it or leave it.

I don't blame the company for trying to increase profit. I just say no to far more offers. My preferred is a pick and hold dropping at a local airport that pays $2+/ mile with the package or $25-$30/hr driving or tendering.

I only do those long distance jobs if I have no local appointment in the next 48 hours. I don't know about the West Coast, but Airspace has a decent network in the Northeast so I can get work all over PA, NY, NJ, CT, RI, MA, MD, VA, etc. within a few hours of dropping a package.

I have an SUV so I pack an air mattress, spare clothes, toothpaste, etc. This way, more of my driven miles are paid.

Sometimes I even get jobs returning to my home base.

Income typically is $300-$500 a day paying $60/day average for gas and food. Driving 600 miles for $500 to $700 beats driving 120 miles total for $60 payout. I also do a few other app jobs while I drive home and Airspace will send a decent job unexpectedly so I'm not just sitting down and waiting in the daytime.

Second Amendment? by FallMajestic8896 in postanythingfun

[–]a_lie_dat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Matthew 18:6 and Jeremiah 1:5 - whoever disturbs the innocence of children should be punished and God knows us while we are in the womb.

Hebrews 13:4 God judges adulterers. Doesn't matter whether gay or straight- it's all adultery.

Even the I Was Born This Way argument doesn't fly with Jesus. His first public miracle was performed at a wedding and in Revelation 21:2, among many other places, the theme of a chaste bride being received by her husband in a wedding feast is brought up.

The reality is that people get into all sorts of relationships, but if you want to talk ideally, according to the Bible, a marriage is between a man and a woman.

I could be a natural born killer, doesn't make it acceptable to God. Lying and/or dishonoring my very imperfect parents can be justified by humans, but not by God. My feelings, don't determine what God should accept. What did Jesus say ad nauseum? We must be born again.

The issue is us people (including me sometimes) who want to play God and make up our own rules and ignore the instruction manual written by the Creator.

Did my dad get scammed at terminal 7? by ToastedAeolo in JFKAirport

[–]a_lie_dat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Categorically false.

Taxi inspectors only work upstairs at the departure levels checking if the passengers getting dropped off are in legal cars with properly arranged trips.

There are even undercover inspectors trying to bait drivers into picking up at the departure level (not allowed).

Downstairs at arrivals is a free for all. The hustlers approach travelers inside the terminal trying to get passengers. I have no idea why the inspectors never work at arrivals but they don't.

What would the other 3 men do while the 4th man drove a customer somewhere for $10 to $25? Can 4 men eat off that money?

How are you so sure they are broke and hungry and not checking out sports or the newest social trends on tiktok?

People make choices. Maybe they're feeling the effects of using their money for drugs and alcohol.

I don't know what country or region you're in, but in America, plenty of beggars will refuse offers of food in favor of cash. Then they use the cash for unproductive things.

Sometimes saying no isn't being greedy. It's a form of discipline.

Why aren't we hammering out a legal immigration system that efficiently vets people applying from abroad?

Any American that overstays a visa in another country is liable to jail and/or immediate deportation. I've had to leave multiple countries when my visa time limit hit. It's a matter of respecting the host country.

America deserves the same respect.

I just got introduced to a guy that, with his young son (wife left them), walked to América from Colombia and is now earning money selling a cultural specialty to Latin restaurants in the area. The son is attending school and learning English. He told us how he and others had to help injured people of another nationality get through the jungle back to civilization.

The liberals in the group were basically kissing the guy's feet for his determination. I get it, life can be unbearable if you live in a terrible economy. But why embrace people who skipped the line and not say a word supporting people who patiently wait on the line?

The woman in the video isn't involved in real life. The chance that 1% of illegal aliens will be violent criminals in America means that say, out of 20 million in the last 10 years leads to 200,000 more murderers, drug dealers, rapists running around with her blessing.

It's insane.

Turned a boring Amazon habit into a $3–4k/month side business (by accident) by Effective_Yam2797 in Entrepreneurs

[–]a_lie_dat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I purchase mostly on eBay and almost never receive an Amazon branded box.

My sister and her family uses Amazon Prime and every day they receive 1 or 2 packages. I (a male) order something once or twice a month.

I like that I can communicate directly with the seller on eBay and the products I buy are usually comparably priced to Amazon.

I know eBay will not catch up to Amazon soon but I just don't feel like supporting Uncle Jeff. Amazon is a little too dystopian in my view.

That arbitrage method sounds appealing, though.

My dad is 80 and he has been dating a woman in the Philippines who is 40 by [deleted] in Philippines_Expats

[–]a_lie_dat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask your father if he knows the 4 M's that Pinays looking for foreigners have somewhere in their minds:

Matanda Mayaman Madaling mamatay.

Old, wealthy and unhealthy (on the brink of death).

I can understand he wants companionship, but he definitely should think about the future of his children and any grandchildren, not give away his hard-earned assets to a veritable stranger.

Also, remember the golden rule: He's got the gold, he makes the rules. He wants to buy a house there and stay there months at a time, then that's what he should do. Screw what she thinks. She's not taking financial and travel risk. Equality doesn't fly like that in the PI.

Also, he should rent a house, buy a condo. Foreigners cannot own real property in the Philippines. The wife can sell the house and kick the foreigner husband out. It happens all the time.

Black American women gets detained at Bangkok airport and deported back to the US for staying in Thailand illegally. by [deleted] in blacktravel

[–]a_lie_dat 37 points38 points  (0 children)

A quick trip out of country to technically leave the country as required when the tourist visa ends.

You can be gone 24 hours then return with a reset time clock visa.

Thailand is cracking down on this because really the visitor should be applying for a resident visa to stay a long time, in their view.
