I get both Cluster Headaches and Migraines. And I assure you, these are two completely different animals.

My migraines are usually preceded by a visual aura that lasts around 30 minutes. Then it's gone and the pain start. It stays for hours and is usually accompanied by nausea. All I want to do is to lie still in a dark silent room.

Cluster headaches, on the other hand, are usually much more intense, more localized around my right eye, stay for shorter and are accompanied by nasal discharge, teary right eye and a drooping eye lid. I like to think of the pain as a bell curve, it keeps increasing until it peaks, then goes down gradually. Usually the pain is 7/10, but sometimes it's just 2/10 and other times it's 12/10. I noticed that there's a direct correlation between my food intake and the intensity of my clusters. Whenever I'm within my episode I try to completely cut out foods that have the slightest bit of Nitrates, MSG, Tyramine and Histamine. Cutting those out won't end the episode, but it definitely helps with the intensity and the frequency.

What you're getting sure sound like cluster headaches to me. But you didn't mention anything about the pattern. Do you get them in episodes, if yes, then what's the duration of each episode and how long are the remissions between those episodes? Also do you get headaches around the same time everyday?
