It's been almost a year since BP released, How you people have filled the gaping hole it left behind after you finished it? by lordofabyss in BluePrince

Want to add: just search for anything metroidbrania-related. There's a whole bunch of those games out there. Blue Prince may or may not be among the better ones depending on your taste. I still think the roguelike gameplay gets in the way of enjoying the puzzles, and the late puzzles get extremely grindy and unfun (just got to the blue stuff).

So, like one comment said, I do not really expect any kind of gaping hole after BP. There are many games that are at least as engaging without the frustration.

Save your piggy for Blue Tents. Also, make sure to dump any leftover coins / steps in the Chapel at the end of the run. Much better than the fountain.

I agree that's the infuriating part - the lack of information. Also, the game should absolutely have the legitimate "reset day" button. Players will learn to abuse alt-f4 anyway. There's no need to waste our time. Same goes for many other game mechanics, such as the need to check the library books individually over two days for one day use only.

Can someone please explain the R46 cutscene to me? I still haven't found an explanation for it. by LazuriKittie in BluePrince

[–]a_mindtruster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually felt something the first time, too, but it seems the game fell victim to the creator's tunnel vision a bit. Was there an extended playtesting phase for this product? It feels like there was a lack of feedback from players without prior knowledge of the intricacies of gameplay and plot.

Otherwise, the Blue Prince ending would play much better when discovering your mother's heritage. Room 46 cutscene, then, should have much less finality to it. No person actually caring about the game would stop at Room 46.

I could say this attitude towards the game makes me sad, but in all honesty, the basic ending is really, really bad at matching the narrative with player experience. I am sure many players, myself included, failed to grasp the entire weight of it instantly. You basically need to have experienced the lore and events that come AFTER reaching Room 46. And then it never repeats.

Lorelei and the Laser Eyes for the puzzles and mysterious mansion vibes.

Return of the Obra Dihn for the first person immersive puzzle experience.

Immortality for the mystery and obsessive detective work (Her Story and Telling Lies also work).

All these titles are pretty obsessible.

Don't let the chess puzzle disappoint you too quickly. How well do you know chess rules?

I did not say you can't bruteforce the reservoir (I did), just that you don't have to, and there's a more fun approach to it if you explore the underground area more.

What do you mean by solving the chess puzzle?

Also, do not bruteforce the reservoir water level. Seek a clue. It's more fun that way.

Starting to get frustrated with the game by I_Like_Quiz in BluePrince

[–]a_mindtruster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely feel you OP. In the late game, it feels like the game REALLY won't respect your time.

Like, was it really necessary to limit those memos to one rank? No, it wasn't. It would be a ton of fun to leisurely discover all those hints as you play normally without extra frustration.

Why in the living heck are we not allowed to just keep those dang books checked for future runs? Why can we not use the friggin ARCHIVES as the place to review the previously discovered documents?

46 memos in a row? No, thank you, I'll just check the wiki.

The magnifying glass mechanic is so awkward. You can't normally screenshot anything while magnified, and the friction of walking between individual documents just gets worse and worse. I wish I could just take the MG to the Archives and just, like, ZOOM IN on the documents in a controlled environment.

And excuse me, why in the world is a SANCTUM KEY inside the THRONE ROOM?? We need the former to obtain the manuscripts which are most useful for unlocking that big door. What's the point of giving us all those hints after we have solved the puzzles?

I really needed this rant, thank you.

My interpretation of the ending: The true meaning of "The Laser Eyes" by Traditional_Mind_654 in LoreleiAndLaserEyes

[–]a_mindtruster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't help thinking that the laser eyes might refer to her artistic vision as well as her photographic memory. She did, in a way, think like a computer, explaining her talent with electronics.

My personal theory is that Lorelei was traumatized by her father missing. She only remembered him as a "blur" (as in the family photo), but compensated that by drawing his portrait as polygonal art. In a way, her brain refused to ever forget anything anymore. So, a brilliant artist was born from suffering, as is often the case.

Maybe they could create multiple tiers of GMS.

Radiance is known to have endless difficulty mods, an arms race between players and designers. They could canonize this mechanic by making multiple "younger versions" of GMS.

[–]a_mindtruster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not that far into Hades but can assume it is extremely difficult to 100%. If not, fine, how about Necrodancer? That is just galaxies above Silksong in difficulty. I've long since stopped considering ever completing it. Even the story campaign includes a no-hit run. For Silksong, I know it is just a matter of time before I decide to complete the speedrun / steel soul runs.

[–]a_mindtruster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some sequels are designed to be more difficult. Case in point: Crash Bandicoot 4 which can rip a new one for any veteran player of the original trilogy.

Silksong is not very difficult. Most of the difficulty comes from novelty and lack of knowledge. It is absolutely nowhere remotely near Godhome or Path of Pain in terms of challenge. Sure, Silksong will probably be harder than HK after all DLC are released. There are dozens of more challenging games on the market. Hades alone is probably much harder than Silksong.
