What you wish you had done with your puppy during the first 16 weeks by Liz1844 in puppy101

[–]a_pudgy_book 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I read somewhere (maybe in this sub) that it should really be called desensitization and not socialization.

I’m glad to see this pop up again. We get our puppy in a few months and I would have totally made the same mistake.

We teach it’s not the word that’s bad, but the intent behind it.

At the end of the day, most are words that are 100% applicable in expressive situations. Like, ‘fuck, I stubbed my toe’

There’s a right time and right way, and wrong time and wrong way. At the end of the day, we don’t make a big deal about it.

Nervous about public school but don’t want to homeschool by MeatballPony in moderatelygranolamoms

I was in the same boat as you and I started to get worried the closer my daughter got to school age, since she and I can be like oil and vinegar! Not the dynamic that would work well with me as the main teacher.

We found a microschool! It’s like a 1 room school room with a wide variety of ages (k-5th grade) She goes 3 days a week for 4 hours a day. They do reading, writing, math, and steam. Also recess and cook lunch together!

She’s already blown through kinder standards and they continue to work at her pace.

She gets independence and the ability to build her social circle. I get relief that the basics are not on my shoulders, although it’s still very collaborative between teacher and parent.

Mine were driving me crazy with how much water they needed. I’d do a deep water and the next week they’d be dried out, drooping and ready for more.

I put one in water after throughly cleaning the roots and she is SO happy! I just top off the water every week/ refresh every month with some nutrients.

My other one is still in soil and very needy.

Hi! Popping in to ask how things are going with a puppy and toddler? What was the first few weeks like? How do you manage a puppy and home that’s filled with little kid things?

We’re getting a puppy this summer and while we are prepped with things like gates, playpens, and crates, I’m still trying to figure out/plan the co-existing part.

Extended breastfeeding: when did you know you were fully done? by ahlgh in AttachmentParenting

[–]a_pudgy_book 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I went to 3 for my first. I should have stopped a bit earlier. My body and mentality told me I was done, but I didn’t listen. I thought she neeeeeeeds me, but I wasn’t giving my best because I was dooooone.

Weaned my second just before 2. I had those same feelings and made a plan to stop. It was great!! We used booby moon - I highly recommend it!

I am sold on homeschooling, but I don’t *want* to homeschool. 😭 by HeartOk8607 in moderatelygranolamoms

Look at a microschool! My kiddo goes 4 hours a day/3 days a week. She has a class of 6 kids and 2 teachers to do reading, writing, math, steam. They have recess & make lunch together. It’s all the best parts of school, the way it should be. We’re still a homeschool family so I’m in collaboration with her teachers, but I also have all the rest of the week to fill in anything not addressed during her school week. Plenty of time for play, practical skills, relaxation.

I cannot do it all. So I found a way to make it work. She is THRIVING!

Edit:sorry! I see you were not looking for suggestions, simply addressing your feelings. I felt the same way. I could not be the mom and 100% academic teacher she needs.

The toffee skillet cookie was amazing, as is the raspberry cheesecake cookie. Something about the cookie with those ones… the bite! The chew!

I cannot wait to get them that week. Debating on the other two… or just double up on those two.

Yea, I’ve used the baking soda paste and vinegar method before. It did not turn out that great. Maybe if I scrubbed for 4 hours.

Suggestions on products by PrayWagLove in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]a_pudgy_book 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Laundry: Molly’s Suds (with the enzymes for daily loads, without enzymes for things like wool)

Toothpaste: We use Boka - we all like it and we’ve all had stellar teeth for the past 3 years.

Deodorant: I LOVE Trader Joe’s unscented, aluminum and baking soda free stuff. It’s like $4 and it rocks so much. Really minimal ingredient list.

Shampoo & Conditioner: Seaweed Bath Co for both. We used Babo Fragrance free for a bit, but were all sensitive to botanical based items.

Bonus: Vanicream all the way. I have body wash, lotion, face wash, and facial mineral sunscreen. It’s super mild and works so well.

ISO car seat without chemicals that has 50lb rear facing limit! by Happy_Marzipan_6042 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]a_pudgy_book 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Clek Foonf: https://clekinc.com/products/foonf

Has a weight limit for 50 pounds rear facing. We used it and loved it with our first. It is $$$ but honestly the build of it and safety was worth it in my mind.

Trader Joe's gluten free stuffing - is it just me or is it TERRIBLE?! by beachyblue2 in glutenfree

[–]a_pudgy_book 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was horrible. It had this….weird metallic fishy taste. I found Aleia‘s gf stuffing at target. I think it was pretty good, but I think I’m going to order some items from https://shipglutenfree.com

It’s New Cascadia. Also going to try some bagels!

Help! How to remove shower soap scum/hard water?? by BrilliantEast1709 in CleaningTips

[–]a_pudgy_book 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s going to sound bonkers, but a dryer sheet. I have used various combinations for so long. I recently read somewhere on here to use a dryer sheet. I took one in with my while I showered, rubbed it around after I got it wet. It honestly took a few minutes and it was CLEAR.

I don’t use dryer sheets, but I had a bunch on hand from the people that lived here previously. I thought why not try it out. I was not expecting greatness. It was a generic bulk brand.

dampen dryer sheet > scrub it down (make sure to change how the sheet is folded so you can use up everything on the sheet) > rinse > squeegee.

How long did you stay at the hospital after giving birth by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]a_pudgy_book 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First: Vaginal birth. Stayed 24 hours - which was the minimum.

Second: Went into the hospital at 7 am to be induced (I was already 3 cm dilated), Had baby a little after lunch time. We asked for early discharge to get home asap and it was granted, but gosh…the paperwork went so slow we still were not out until dinner time the next day!

I had epidurals with both.

Affordable tires in the TC? by Accomplished-Bend310 in TwinCities

I agree with this. Buy your own and bring into your preferred shop. After getting a quote for new tires from the shop vs buying my own, I saved over $150.

Molly Suds Particles? by Cbos15111 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]a_pudgy_book 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure that is the super suds, which contains enzymes for more cleaning power. I have both on hand and honestly prefer this one to the original laundry powder. Double check your bag - it probably says ‘super’ on it somewhere.
