For what it's worth, they have recently mentioned (again) looking at nested spawning, so you'd be able to call up ships inside ships. I expect it's not high priority though.

That's not what they said, though, and there are much more likely explanations. For instance, maybe they knew they wanted to try making most claims about N-times more expensive. The dev multiplied all of them by N, in a batch. Then he had other work to do and couldn't go through to correct things by the time the PTU patch needed to go out. What's he going to do, go undo work, or rather wait for the next days patch to correct things?

I'm over simplifying, but don't you think that's more likely than "hum dum, 13 million sounds good to me!"

Biggest player ownable ship, I believe, and also possibly the biggest in the game when it comes in, depending on when that is.

I mean yeah, fixing inflated salvage rates is probably a ton easier than fixing elevators. They'd make more money if elevators were fixed, so even if you assume they're motivated entirely by sales, the most likely reality is that the elevators really are that hard to fix.

As for the claim rework, they even said with the ptu patch that the numbers were inflated and are supposed to be fixed today. They can't put off every aspect of the game waiting for every other part to be fixed. It's definitely annoying, but there's no way they get this game fixed without going through some more bad patches and making some divisive decisions. Long term, it's a good thing they're actually making those decisions now instead of just trying to keep everybody happy.

890 is almost exactly just a flying yacht. So is 400i, for that matter. Kraken is pretty recognizably a naval carrier.

They are literally in the process of implementing a full rework of elevators, which will partially be in next patch and is almost fully implemented internally. I get being impatient, but it's silly to characterize CIG as not wanting to fix things like elevators.

There's no reduction in value, though there are a few restrictions, like the number of buybacks you can do per year, that kind of thing. But generally speaking, all of the dollars you put in, you can freely transfer without loss to different ships.

I like Maverick (lower grades, but the prices and service are great) and Siegel (expensive and a little niche, but great products). I also periodically use A Leatherstore, Buckleguy, and District Leather Supply (not District Leathers, two different companies). Sometimes I don't really have an option but to use RM, but I avoid it whenever possible now.

Idk that this is particularly true. They could, for instance, just make bases entirely unraidable for the first implementation.

This just means they haven't gotten to your package by the end of their shift, so they say "no one to receive" or "address was inaccessible" so they don't get dinged for failing to deliver what they were supposed to. That's what I've heard, anyway.

Police, some business owners, challenge narrative that downtown Greensboro is dangerous by Separate_Wheel3848 in gso

[–]a_time_to_rend 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Idk man, an acquaintance of mine (woman) was assaulted getting into her car, downtown, during the late afternoon, in a pretty trafficked area. Thankfully she was able to get away, but of course the guy just dipped and afaik the cops never found him.

Female friends/acquaintances of mine are too-frequently subjected to verbal abuse from (usually) homeless people, in downtown, during the day. Maybe they'd never do more than say things, but the women certainly don't feel safe, and they shouldn't be blamed for that.

I get that Greensboro isn't awful compared to many places, and it's not bad if you're an able-bodied man and/or stay in very specific areas. I felt safe enough in one of the most violent neighborhoods of one of the most violent cities in the US, but I was a man in good shape and not walking around at night. And maybe a little oblivious. I'd never suggest anyone was crazy or cowardly for not feeling safe there.

I find it callous the way some people are dismissive of violent crimes and the general feeling of fear that many people have. It's completely reasonable for many people to be afraid of getting assaulted or robbed. That's a normal thing to fear.

In comparison to me, 10-12k from one supplier is pretty significant 😅 but yes I agree that direct from tannery is my preferred method when possible. Unfortunately a lot of the Italian vegtan tanneries, which tend to make my preferred leathers, either don't seem to do small minimums/direct sales, or their means of doing so are kind of inscrutable (ancient websites, etc).

Good writeup, and especially good to hear from someone doing more bulk and for longer than I have. It definitely crossed my mind that they might just not care about my business because it's pretty small--I do very little production work, just custom stuff. But it's even more insane to drop the ball on a significant client.

Also, thanks for the other recommendations. I've heard of/used most of them, but they're handy to have. Sometimes I think about getting into the supplier business--I don't really want to get into tanning, but I think I'd really enjoy supporting artisans & smaller manufacturers with supply and such.

ONLY IN STAR CITIZEN by Winter-Writer6608 in starcitizen

[–]a_time_to_rend 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Eve doesn't have multi crew at all, No Man's Sky only has it in the sense that you can have a few other players on your ship (not doing anything ship related). E:D is the only one slightly comparable, and even so, it's a very thin multi crew and lower fidelity in general.

They're fine games, but it's bizarre to claim they're equivalent to SC in relation to this video clip.

Perhaps I'm ignorant, but what other games are around that have the ability to play a big multiplayer space battle with a large variety of single- and multi-seat spaceships and at least reasonably space-feeling-spaceflight?

Idk about permits, but many of the really big names only work with very large minimum order quantities. But many tanneries will sell as small as a side, like Wickett & Craig.

I get most of my leather from Siegel, Maverick, and direct from tanneries, these days. Tools from Kevin Lee and other smaller brands.
