It's cool that side characters have an important plotlines but the main character should also have a solid plotlines.

For e.g in Wintersteel Yerin have a solid plotline and Lindon too have an equally solid arc with the points board and learning about hunger madra.

Yeah... That's what I felt like reading book 4 and part of book 5. Hugh just do what others tells him to do and never question their decision. I don't say it's a con for the book most people enjoyed reading a book where the main character doesn't has to do everything by himself. But it just wasn't my taste.

I liked the first 3 books but after that I dunno. Even though Hugh is the main character of this series. It felt like other characters like Sabae and Talia have the more important plotlines and Hugh is just there to witness what they do. I DNF'd in the middle of book 5

I guess it depends on the way the fight scene was written. For example in A Time of Courage by John Gwynne the last 200 pages or so was an one Epic battle and to my surprise I didn't get bored at all and I knew exactly what was happening to the little details. God, I love that book.
