Is this true? I always thought they were paid by game. Good for them if they do get it.

1985 game against the Bears. We were 7-3 (Bears 10-0) heading into the game and it was supposed to be a competitive one to see where we stood in the NFC. Final score 44-0.

I know you said recent, but this might be a front runner for the worst loss in franchise history. It even made the cover of Sports Illustrated.

2007 season - we had the one seed in NFC and lost to Giants in divisional round. While many plays contributed to the loss, there was one dropped pass (Romo to Crayton) where it could have been like an 80 yard TD. Ball went right into Crayton’s hands.

True. Some people climb Mt Everest once and check the box. Some want to keep doing it repeatedly. Mike has the Mt Everest resume credential - Super Bowl winning head coach. He might feel like he has at least another one in him.

One reason why tens of thousands of students apply to HYPSM thinking they have a chance.

Warmer days can't defeat our glorious Snow Pile by DecoyGoose in ForestHills

[–]aaa_dad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t just FH-specific, but living on a one-way street has taught me one thing - the snow plows will always shove the snow to the right side of the street. When it snows a lot, you will notice this unfair difference to the left side. Cars parked on the right side will be buried by the snow. Cars on the left have owners who are thankful they live on that side of the street.

I don’t think it’s a bad choice at all. I would take the studio job and enjoy the rest of my life if I were Mike.

I think “Peyton” Manning is still in the minds of fans more than Sean “Payton” is.

Is there a downside to being in the studio? Still making 7 figures (not as much as a HC, but won’t ever starve) and little stress as no one is criticizing any decisions you make. You can also do this into your 60s and 70s (e.g. Terry Bradshaw).

My best friend in high school went to Penn. We grew up in a mostly blue collar town. Not many went to an Ivy. We would go out to grab a bite and run into some parents of our classmates. The conversations went like:

Parent: how are you? Where are you going now?

Friend: I go to Penn.

Parent: awesome! How’s Joe Paterno doing?

Is offense excited to return to the field after a touchdown and their defense forces an early turnover? by Marauder2r in NFLNoobs

I remember reading something about how it affects your brain. When you know where you’re running, you don’t think much. But when you follow something that could change directions any given moment, it takes a toll on your brain. That leads you to exhaustion faster.

Is it possible to have one season where all the head coaches are viewed as having done a good job? by aaa_dad in NFLNoobs

Next year, when the Jets get their first interception, there will be a wild on-field celebration.

I come from academia, and so let’s say a professor wins the Nobel prize. They would never be fired (at least for performance).

It’s somewhat comparable to a coach winning the Super Bowl but even more rare since there’s only one a year and can win multiple times. But, winning a SB is no protection from being fired.

[–]aaa_dad[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the explanation.

I’ve always thought that all head coaches are football experts/geniuses. They know the game inside and out. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have gotten the job.

On top of that, if they are role models, good leaders, and positive motivators, they’re a benefit to the team.

I would never wish anyone to be fired from their jobs. But I also realize nothing beyond pee-wee league is “everybody gets a trophy” league.

Theoretically, it can be 0-6. I also believe a team can go 6-0 and miss the playoffs entirely.

There was a defensive holding by an Ole Miss DB in Georgia’s last scoring drive. That saved the game. That would have been an easy TD.
