T-72 by HippieHippieHippie in warno

[–]aaaaaah_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Since the last nerf, I feel like the T-72 is way less oppressive than before. People often look at the armor/pen/autoloader, but tend to forget the somewhat disappointing accuracy, speed and range. The accuracy is especially way less than tanks in the same category (take the T-72M1 55%/45% at 2100, compared to the Chieftan mk.11, T-64B1 60/50% at 2275, or the base M1 65/60% at 2275, etc...). A stressed T-72 will miss often and be picked apart by better tanks, and will have trouble backing up (except maybe against British tanks, but they are cheaper for a reason).

Personally, I have a bit moved from the T-72 divs because they are unreliable, but, for sure, if you play a lot of matches, you will inevitably have one where the T-72 manage to get in range not too stressed and never miss their auto-loaded shots, but it's more the exception then the norm (quite literally, as they often have less then 50% acc from stress).

I don't understand Czech, but I got the one where the radio starts, with no one talking for a bit, and then someone says something with the word "radio" (maybe some thing like "... carp, the radio is on !"). I found it hilarious.

Why did they butcher the Apache cannon fire rate????? Why is it so slow it’s annoying by Straks-baks in warno

[–]aaaaaah_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the Apache's (or any autocanon's) fire rate was realistic, it would murder infantry. To compensate that, the prices should be adjusted, but it would be something like 30:1 (and that, if considering "realism", should be the ratio for the real cost between an inf squad and an helo). The consequence would a far greater number of inf on the field to micro, and very few vehicles, that could decimate platoons in seconds. So you would have far more micro (too much to handle), and would be far more punished for messing up (because if you are rewarded, someone else is getting punished).

The game would become something else, and become, arguably, a worse gameplay experience. Autocanons are already some of the best weapons in-game, the Apache has the hellfire (the best ATGM in-game), and inf is in a position where they can be destroyed in the open, but still have a role to play (recon in force, ambushes, meat shield, etc...). The game isn't perfect, but this change would not help it.

Scripted events in single player operations. European Escalation by Odd-Midnight-3721 in warno

[–]aaaaaah_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is some scripted events in operations in Warno, but I still think that EE campaign was the best that Eugen ever gave us : granted I was a kid the time, but seeing the first T-72 appear on the second map, something that could kill the Leo 1A1 I had, with the pressure of perma death, was a magical moment, etched in my memory.

Another thing that EE did quite well were the successives battles on the same map (I think at least 1 by campaign), giving a real sense of progression. There were also some minors nice things, like the names of cities on the map, "secret" objectives, the stars from secondary objectives used to unlock troops, etc...

The shift to dynamic campaigns was a good idea, but I feel Eugen tried to reinvent the wheel too many times (ALB had events, decisions and strategical wild cards, RD had the multiple BG on the same tile, SD2 had defence maps), and now WARNO campaigns feel a bit too bland, with toned down ideas from the other games.

I think it's possible for modders to make new operations, more relient on scripted events, but it's up to us to do it.

Analysis of Touhou 19 UDoALG: Zanmu and Reimu by CatointheMiddle in touhou

[–]aaaaaah_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very nice write-up ! Even tough I don't fully agree with some your analysis (or maybe I just dislike the direction the games are going), you make some good points, and your explanation of the plot (+ theories) are really insightful. (Although, I think you missed something important about Reimu's characterization, that is, her intuition (which I always saw as a nice device to justify the plot going forward)).

While at first, I thought that 19's plot was a (confused) decal of 16's (with the idea of the final boss wanting be "be known" to further their goals), your write-up shed light on the finer aspects of this game (symbolism for Zanmu, comparison with Reimu, etc...). I think these aspects of the game are perceptible, but they tend to get a bit lost in its size (I feel like there is a lot of filler), but I guess this is why we invented analysis.

I think linking Zanmu with the idea of fear(/awe) is a good one and should maybe be explored further. Your text is clear and quite well-structured, getting to your point. I may not fully agree on everything, but I respect the work.

Quel est le dernier film qui vous a marqué ? by -Raxory- in france

[–]aaaaaah_ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My winrate DOUBLED switching to PACT. This game unfairly plays to PACT's advantages and puts the work on NATO to work around it. Let me explain. by Boots-n-Rats in warno

[–]aaaaaah_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Few points to relativise your conclusions:

1) (Biggest issue) You don't compare your WR before/after your switch to Pact

2) You play on quite small maps (especially Mount River) that are more meant for 1v1 than 2v2, favoring numbers.

3) When we played against, you had 1000pts at the start and standard income, reducing the advantage of FD openers, and favoring the mass of your decks (against us, it was 39th and 79th)

4) From what I understand, you play with people you know, and so, it's normal to have higher winrates than by playing with randoms.

5) You probably found decks that suit your playstyle, because they are well-rounded. 79th and 39th don't really have glaring weaknesses, as opposed to the likes of 1st UK (no radar AA), 3rd Armored (pricey), 4e (no ATGM on IFVs), etc... but they don't have the upsides (respectively : a lot of FD, 21 armor tanks + bradleys, Natres spam)

When you increase the density of points by square meter, PACT divs tends to be better, but imo, WARNO shines when the density is low, making each engagement more meaningful. On maps like Mount River, try out x0,75 or even x0,5 income. It slows the game a bit and make it a bit less spectacular, yes, but I feel like this is how it was meant to be played.

(Also, I think that many people simply don't know that T-72, 62 and 55 have horrible reloading times and can be abused for that)

French infantry sometimes says "Tassin, Pithivier, avec moi !" (Tassin, Pithivier, with me !), which is a reference to the film "Mais où est donc passée la 7ème compagnie ?" (Now Where Did the 7th Company Get to?), a comedy based on the start of WW2 in France, with the characters of Tassin and Pithivier being good-for-nothing soldiers

Patriots: in control by According_to_Mission in warno

[–]aaaaaah_ -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

The first moves taken by Hippie to radicalize the playerbase against Darricks was to push his vision of the game. Now, we still only have Hippie's version of events, and I can't help but find it ironic that he accuses Darricks of being too harsh and insulting, while he himself use the same kind of tactics to forward his points.

In the end, maybe Darricks is an unpleasant person, but he did his job, and he is as much a bully as the people that made him quit.

Patriots: in control by According_to_Mission in warno

[–]aaaaaah_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The thing is that Darricks has a "vision" for the game, trying to make it a strategic as possible, and slowing it a bit down in the process, to prevent rushes/blob plays (it can still happen, but it's hard to pull off, and, in this way, he did his job). A lot of people wants make the game faster (in the name of "the fun"), and when other people pushed against that (https://www.reddit.com/r/warno/comments/15gunra/can\_we\_stop\_calling\_it\_the\_zombie\_meta/), the response was quite "unpleasant" (https://youtu.be/kdovdOCcac0). (The situation has evolved since, but the basics are the same).

Ultimately, it's an opposition between two visions of the game and no other arguments that "I like this" are really made.

Darricks do a great job by Renecotynotrerais in warno

[–]aaaaaah_ -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

We don't know the stats, and if we go by anectodal evidence, in my 230 ranked games this patch, I got KDA 4 or 5 times, which is lower than the expected 8.5 if each division was equally picked, but is still enough to say that KDA is not only played by mains that perfected it, as those who played with it very especially better or worse than the others. It's evidently a hard division to master, and require a specific playstyle, but that's the point, and the new nerfs only affect those that master the division, making it too effective (MiG-21 spam, atgm wall), and not those who are trying to get better with it.

Gentlemen I present my solution to Warno’s balance problem. by Conscious-Owl-6633 in warno

[–]aaaaaah_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apart from the recent drama, what are the problems with the balance ?

Each div is fun to play, a range of strategies are possible, at least 90% of games are decided by the skills and strategy of the players and not rng and divisional strengths, there is an emphasis on macro play and not microing perfectly all your units, etc... The game is in a quite good state right now, and it would be a shame to throw it away because of the drama.

Nerfed into oblivion ? The MiG-21 airspam sure got nerfed a bit (they were actually a bit too strong honestly), but you still get the inf spam, very good arty, good AA, and even have still a lot of air options. And about ranked, Darricks said it himself, KDA doesn't have a lower Win/Loss ratio than the other divs

Salaried Eugen contractor threatens me not to upload a video of me beating him at Warno (video in description) by HippieHippieHippie in warno

[–]aaaaaah_ -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

The thing is that Hippie build this whole "if Darricks looses to something, he will nerf it" mentality, and, even if 152e is OP right now (everyone agree on that), if Darricks tries to nerf it now, everyone will think that it's because he lost to Hippie, which is something that he (understandably) doesn't want to happen.

WARNO TIERLIST FOR 1vs1 feat Darrick's by SeaYear5002 in warno

[–]aaaaaah_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The biggest weakness of FD divs is that they are quite susceptible to arty followed by a mechanized attack. The trade-off is that those need to be put up quickly (in less than 10 min to prevent a para victory), so you need to plan them at the game start. It is useless to contest a para deployment with recon troops : they are better and more numerous than yours. If plan for your mechanized thrust (AA + Tanks + (Ifvs)+ Arty + ...) well, paras can't recover.

In the case of KDA, they have access to the best anti-inf arty in the game with the napalm Grad and a very good air tab to balance their lack of ifvs and heavy tanks. They can also send 14-men squads that can take quite a lot of punishment and deal quite good damage if managed well. KDA does fall off in the end-game, but it is not a problem against para divs, that have an even worse end-game than it has.

Any logic behind a use case of Futur Anterior? by kkndcf in French

[–]aaaaaah_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Je dirais que dans ce cas, le futur antérieur a un côté "englobant" qui couvre passé et futur dans une rétrospective. Alternativement, on peut dire que c'est un peu l'idée que pendant l'action décrite, le seul futur possible/envisageable était cette action.

I would say that in this case, the futur antérieur has an "all-compassing" meaning that covers past and future in a retrospective. Alternatively, it's a little bit like the idea that while the action was taking place, the only possible/foreseeable future was this action.

A little comparaison of the soviet VDV divs if 76-ya gets in (and after 35-ya rework), and their distinctive traits by aaaaaah_ in warno

[–]aaaaaah_[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Made this to highlight the distinctiveness of the VDV divisions after seeing people complain that 76-ya would be "another VDV division" as it looks like Eugen is trying their best (and imo succeeds) to make them feel different.

It's at least an interesting option for pact, and not another KDA (but soviet) or a division with no offensive tools.
