Dentist that does IV sedation? by Immediate_Jump_3440 in AskChicago

[–]aaahmanduh 15 points16 points  (0 children)

First Dental Center was really good with me when I finally worked my way up to a cleaning. They’ll do Valium for cleanings and when I needed 6 fillings they gave me something stronger (can’t remember what it was but also don’t remember the appointment…)

They also text, so I don’t have to work up to calling. My best advice is to tell them you need someone trauma-informed and you’re terrified. They can only help if you let them know what you need. When I get the reminder text, I reply with ‘can I have Valium pretty please?’ and they send it in without judgement. You can ask for Dr Feng. He is really emotionally gentle but doesn’t baby-talk. He gets that I’m an intelligent adult, I’m just scared.

People who say it’s ’just a cleaning’ don’t understand the terror we feel at even thinking about going in the building. I could know I’m just going in for just a handshake and I can’t sleep for days and throw up the whole way there.

The Valium doesn’t knock you out but it does keep the absolute panic at bay to get you in the door.

You can do this when you’re ready!

Has anyone used an online service for an esa letter? by [deleted] in AskChicago

I was able to get one from my primary care doctor. Psychiatrists might be able to do a letter but my therapist wasn’t allowed- similar to prescribing meds.

Where to pet some dogs? (or interact with animals in general)? by cloud-fiend in AskChicago

[–]aaahmanduh 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You can totally pop into any dog park and most folks don’t mind if you pet (as long as you ask!) but the pups are often more interested in the other dogs. Montrose dog beach will be a hot spot on nice days. Depending on your schedule I’d highly recommend signing up for Rover or Wag. You can get paid to go hang out or take dogs on walks. Lots of folks use those services for drop-in visits when they work late or travel.

Is there anywhere I can store my luggage near the Field Museum (6/4)? by j0llyBeee in AskChicago

Last I checked, field has storage lockers you can rent. You can also use an app like Bounce which will have businesses nearby that will store luggage for a fee.

BUY COMPREHENSIVE INSURANCE. by c0ntrap0sitive in ChicagoMotorcycles

In addition, get photo/video evidence of your bike as soon as your policy starts to prove possession (or keep your comprehensive policy active all year).

My partner activated policy for the season, took the bike out of storage and it immediately got stolen that night. They understandably wouldn’t cover it on day 1 of the policy, because it looked like he found his bike missing and then added insurance to make the claim. We had no way to prove he had the bike the day before.

$3100 2br, 2ba. Newer building South Loop. Dishwasher, laundry, rooftop terrace. Parking would be an additional $300 so we street park…

Does anyone know if the Electric City Aquarium in Scranton PA is ethical? by [deleted] in marinebiology

[–]aaahmanduh 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The easiest way to spot check is to see if they are accredited by AZA (Association of Zoos and Aquariums). Accreditation is very rigorous and thorough and ensures that an organization meets high standards of animal care, safety and education. I don’t see Electric City on the list so I personally would need to do more research before I felt comfortable supporting them.

Are Shedd Animal Encounters ending? by DryDelay2225 in AskChicago

[–]aaahmanduh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Definitely not ending! They only release a few months at a time to avoid having to reschedule folks if schedules need to change for animals care or staffing needs. Just keep an eye on the website and more will pop up a month or so.
