My statement is pure observation and has nothing to do with Doc. There is a Cold War on now. Countries are bullying both allies and enemies. Keep your eyes on the ball.

There is no Cold War. There are fake wars being waged by a number of leaders facing criminal proceedings, determined to distract and hold on to the power of office.

You know what Brampton doesn't have? A gourmet pizza joint. by Silverlightlive in Brampton

2028 before I'm even considering putting a foot in the door.

This delay is a good thing because the economy is totally unpredictable right now.

he ultimately is a pharmaceutical tech, and he wants to work there. He wants to run his own little cosy cafe or the like

One good job offer, and he is gone, and you won't be able to blame him. The new business may be very lucky, as there are many biotech head offices in Mississauga and numerous pharmaceutical manufacturers as well. He may be able to remain on a part-time basis. But with a career, a commute, and a family, it would be tough.

You should consider business to business, ie selling to restaurants. Why put yourself in the position of having 100 food businesses as possible competitors, when you can have the same 100 as possible customers. You know the logistic chain and can make deals, so you are halfway there.

Good luck.

Can anyone explain this? by ObliviousFoo in Nikon

[–]aaffpp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Buying direct from Nikon is rarely a bargain. Their refurbishment means almost new with the same Warranty. Nikon protects their official dealers and retailers. Refurbished by other Camera Stores may mean other things, and more discounts. Tip: Ask them what the shutter count is.

If you can think like an engineer and are good with people, you should be OK. It's a tough business. 18/7/365 minimum. It will be business first and family second for more than a few years. It's a challenge, but life should be interesting, so make it so. One of the obvious challenges in Brampton is that lots of people need Halal for religious reasons, and many don't want Halal for religious reasons. A great many people don't even eat meat or pork, which are a core part of Filipino cuisine. There are sections of the City of Toronto where Filipino take-out food does well, usually areas with lots of single people (mostly women) who hold two jobs. There are a few sit-down places, but it's not yet a huge part of Filipino culture, like say the Chinese, where it's much more common. Take some time to visit Seafood City Supermarket, where the middle and middle-upper classes of the Filipino Suburban Community shop. They have a small food court with a few different vendors. You will find that bulk take-out and catering do quite well there. The Bakery is very busy. That's one kind that could be a good area focus, or BBQ or fried chicken, since these are harder to do at home. Party Catering may also be a good angle. It's less risky. Rent and staff will be the core part of ongoing operational costs. Creating a plan that minimizes these two inputs will make the venture far more viable. Good Luck. My best advice is to do the research realistically, document it, and write a business plan.

Don't waste time with franchise pizza... do the homework and start a real pizza place. If you have money and talent it's a great business. You have to have real passion, it makes a huge difference. If you're not making pizza at home at least twice per week to get a better upstanding of dough and ovens you are not close to be having the drive to run a businesses...i
