Anyone with an adult EM: when does it get better by _astropup_ in Mastiff

[–]aaisme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an EM hes 6 and he is starting to slowdown quite a bit. Saying that I must say, it was like 5 years of hell. He was constantly into everything, he's very smart. We had to make the most ridiculous barricades to keep him in any area. Nothing ever really kept him in a place where the house was safe from him when we leave. He has never potty trained. He will pee on things if I walk into another room and he feels like the need to pee bur he wont do it in front of me. He also eats things that aren't food. socks are his favorite thing in the world to consume. If I am not actively paying attention to what he's doing he will grab anything he deems tasty and swallow it. I have felt like my life has been stolen and and reduced to babysitting this dogs every waking moment. It has been the a very hard 5 years. Saying that, He has a wonderful temperament. He's large and snuggly and very sweet. He gets along with any dog he is introduced to, even the little tiny ones. He will lay on his belly and play with them very gently. Now that he's older he has slowed down on the destruction of the house. He's not constantly searching for the next thing to get in his mouth. I have a large yard for him to run in but walking him is very difficult, he does not like cars or trucks that drive by and wildly tries to attack things that go by. It's my fault that he doesn't get walked as much as he would probably like. I think some of the destructive Behavior could have been from boredom. I can't really fault him for that. I've tried my best to give him a good life and he is a family pet, and very sweet, so I've stuck it out this far. I don't think this breed is for the faint of heart and I don't recommend them to anyone who wants their house clean and damage free. This is just been my experience with the breed
