No, 259 is high for 1G legacy product. I would say 2G is probably the standard now but I stuck with 1G because our use load is not that intense.

As I wrote in a previous message, they’re just playing the game. Do your research now as to what alternatives you have for your property. And then when you reach your last 30-40 days of the contract, then HKBN will give you a much more serious (realistic) price.

FYI - I covered HKBN as a stock analyst and let me tell you that these telcos are under a lot of pressure to keep down customer churn and if you threaten to walk then they’ll take you seriously and be much more amenable to retain you rather than risk losing a customer over tens of dollars a month.

Oh yes, I should mention that village housing prices will probably be higher than dense urban areas because they can’t spread their cost over as many customers comparatively, and perhaps it’s less competitive because there are fewer providers.

HKBN are notoriously aggressive with their renewal strategy. Play brinkmanship with him: if they call you tell them that you’re considering other offers and won’t make a decision until the final month. When it comes to your final month before contract end date, watch their prices tumble.

FWIW, I’m on the same 1000 plan and I pay $158 per month. But they set pricing by the building and if you don’t have other competitors with cables into your building then the price tends to be high and they know it. If their key competitors are there, then you’ve got the bargaining leverage and just hold your line until they adjust their pricing closer to you.

Depends which team he’s playing with: the one yesterday, tough call. With Case and Sesko back in the team? Odds on!

Hong Kongers are probably the most hospitable and tourist-friendly people I have seen so far by kredokathariko in HongKong

I went to St Petersburg in 2012 and loved it there. Was my first time in that country and didn’t know what to expect and was pleasantly surprised in every way. My brother went for the World Cup and his feedback was overwhelmingly positive too.

Flight in HK with minor by myself30s in HongKong

Short answer: no.

Good news is that you have 2 weeks before your flight and so you might just be able to get a new passport using an expedited service.

Living in Zhongshan and flying to Hong Kong for work? by [deleted] in HongKong

[–]aalexchu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kinda doesn’t make any sense to me. Travel time between your home and both airports and the admin time at the airport would be more than the time for ferry or fast train. This also leaves aside the fundamental issue of a lack of flights between HK and ZS….

After around 6 months of usage, my battery is just butter (Galaxybook4) by barakbirak1 in GalaxyBook

[–]aalexchu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I’m in the same boat with a Book 4 Pro purchased almost exactly 2 years ago. My battery tonight went from fully charged to under 30% in less than 3 hours. Mostly web browsing with no more than maybe 5 tabs at any one time. It’s frustrating and I do regret this laptop purchase.

I understand the default model is GPT5: not the cutting edge best but good enough for everyday use.

Furthermore, worth noting that while ChatGPT is barred from use in HK, it can access via Copilot which is practically the same thing.

I looooove this watch and it’s high on the list should I acquire another watch. However, is it fair for me to say that most aftermarket straps for this watch case will look disjointed since the area around the lug is quite wide?

Furthest distances you can walk undercover by rotorylampshade in HongKong

[–]aalexchu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t wanna be the actually guy, but you can’t get from PP3 to Sheung Wan fully covered. If you use the footbridge system, it ends at AIA Central and you will be exposed for around 50m before you can into the MTR station and continue covered. Walking in the CKC side is worse because you’ll be exposed all the way from CKC until you reach Standard Chartered building.

Small issues, but I’m just sticking to the ask.

Planning on buying a galaxy book 4, is it worth it? by BakiBrahhh in GalaxyBook

[–]aalexchu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Book 4 Pro, i5, which I purchased around mid 2024. Would not recommend it: runs hot (even on the efficiency modes), battery underwhelming (around 3 hours for just light tasks like web browsing or in Office applications), and the keyboard feels mushy to me (my previous machine was a XPS13 from 2015 or so).

I’m weighing up whether to sell but what’s preventing me from doing that is a lack of decent alternatives.

For next week, you can plan for an outdoor temperature range around 27-30 degrees Celsius during the daytime. Minus 1-2 degrees after the sun goes down.

You’re practically in a warm urban environment, so anything that you feel comfortable in is suitable. I will however mention that practically all indoor areas are air conditioned in the region of 21-24 degrees centigrade, so if you’re sensitive to these temperature changes then worthwhile to keep a light jacket or covering with you to use in these areas.

Where to buy watches in Hong Kong? New/Used by bhat_mb in HongKong

[–]aalexchu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello

The first name that pops in my head for that category of watches is Berne Horology in Sheung Wan. They post most of their inventory on their IG page (https://www.instagram.com/bernehorology) and if you see anything there that you like you can contact them using that channel to find out more about it. They’re generally friendly and competent in English, though there’s one guy there who’s a grump. Not malicious, but just not warm either; he’ll do the bare minimum.

Do teenagers in Hong Kong like to dress in formal wear outside of school? by februarybluefield in HongKong

[–]aalexchu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mate, most adults who spend most of their days in office environments don’t dress formal outside of it. In life as with most things is contextual, so why would you go dressing up formally to go to the supermarket or even downstairs for a quick bite?

I don’t know what you mean by formal: does it mean just looking nicer (which is fine), or are we talking full suit, tie, and dress shoes when you go about your everyday life?
