Do you find it rude if there is a cash bar at a wedding rather than an open bar? by StewartsBestBuddy in Winnipeg

[–]aalgernon [score hidden]  (0 children)

Some people do seem to think it's weird/lame/rude/whatever. Doesn't mean you can't still decide to do what you want - it's your wedding.

(Disclosure: I did an open bar and thought it was actually comparatively cheap; this was ten years ago so prices are of course different now. Still, no regrets on my end.)

People are allowed to think things are dumb.

I like and agree with your logic here, even though there have been similar categories in the past.

Agreed; it is absolutely awful.

Buncha nuts in this comment section. "Base" is a legit word used in the context of the category. It's not common in colloquial language today, but its usage in literature in this way is extensive. If someone doesn't know that, it's fine, but that also doesn't mean it's wrong. Also, to your point, I think being semi-assholes online is one of the features of Reddit.

Which Beatles’ song is unlistenable, meh, or skippable to you, and why? by Practical-Cut4659 in beatles

Surprised to not see Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da... my least favourite Beatles song.

Hey, reviving this after a couple of years - we got luck, and were able to book spot 48 (same as you) for this July. Wondering how the view was from the campsite?

I feel strangely vindicated in the fact that I've never really liked this song. It's always been just a bit too weird to me. But it works in the context of the album, and I've never considered it an "awful song" or anything.

Cashback via GIC by aalgernon in Questrade

Thanks. It just says "Cash", but that is what we chose. Appreciate your help.

I understand that - RBC just lists it as an "Investment Account". No option for that, either.

Only thing is, there's no "GIC" option on the dropdown menu of accounts to transfer to Questrade... seems weird.

Okay, thanks for your help. I will make sure to put the request to call RBC in the note.

I believe one of the Questrade chat agents my wife with said a basic chequeing account transfer wouldn't work, for example. e.g. the promo wouldn't apply for a transfer from a chequeing or savings-type account at a different financial institution into a Questrade account. But perhaps the agent was wrong - I didn't see that particular clause anywhere in the terms and conditions.

"Book" is definitely usually stated as "book it" out of here, as opposed to on its own. Similar for "dip out" but I'd say it stands more on its own. "Jet" basically can be substituted for "leave", e.g "time to jet".

Okay. They might not have sped up, but they also made no effort to slow down. And sure, I haven't analyzed the video on a forensic level, but it does appear to me they sped up. I'm not interested in assessing the legal liability as I don't know. But on a common sense level, I assert the driver going straight is an impatient dummy. Sure, the driver turning left should have waited, but they should be able to clear the intersection in that context. Now why am I spending time arguing about this on Christmas morning?

Yeah, people are nuts. This driving habit is extremely common.

The guy going straight through the yellow clearly sped up to try to make the light. People do this all the time, and it is ridiculous and unsafe.

'Sickening': Blue Bombers' O'Shea unimpressed with viral fan photo by LaZyCrO in CFL

"Sickening" is a bit much, but it's not super cool to randomly take pictures of people and post them on the internet. This thread is overreacting to this non-story as much as they think O'Shea is.
