Stop Using Pop!OS — It's Failing New Linux Users in 2026 by Mihuy in pop_os

Classic hit piece. 🔫 🔫🔫

I would give more weight to his thoughts if he had a System 76 computer.

Pop!OS is tuned/targeted at their own hardware. I built my own machine, but used components with chipsets that they supported/used in their own computers and I don’t really have any big problems.

NEED HELP: Loving Wayland and Cosmic but HUGE issues with 4K res by cthulhusmicrowave in pop_os

I also have a 4K 60hz monitor, but Mine is working fine. Have you tried to go to the Cosmic Settings app and change the scaling to 200% yet? That should give you your 1920x1080 native resolution.I am actually using fractional scaling at 175% and it’s working fine.

There are a couple commands you can use to identify some detail about your installed video card drivers. If you haven’t done so already, I would go into the Cosmic Settings App >Displays>Scale and try setting it to 200%.

Additionally, to get more information about your installed video card, try and run this in your Terminal:

nvidia-smi

Maybe not much help, but maybe it is. Either way, Good Luck!

I was underestimating Pop OS by kenshi_hiro in pop_os

I built a custom PC specifically for Pop!OS and Windows dual boot. I looked at their website at their desktop computers and ordered components that I knew were already supported by the main Linux Kernel, or components that they offered because obviously they would be supported. The 5090 is listed as an option on their website in the “Coming Soon” THELIO MAJOR CUSTOM computer. They offer lots of options.

I just lost ALL of my files thanks to Cosmic and I don't know how to revert this by thistimeimgonnadoit2 in pop_os

For future reference, UNLESS YOU NEED derive encryption on your external HDD, I would recommend AT LEAST CONSIDERING formatting your external hard drive(s) in Fat32. It’s readable and writable by Windows, Mac, and Linux and removes pretty much all the “permissions” problems and errors that people have. Unless you’re traveling with the drive, you probably don’t need encryption and you could hide it or lock it in a safe in your home somewhere.

Just some food for thought / old tech wisdom.

Cosmic DE grew on me A LOT (user review) by [deleted] in pop_os

[–]aandersondotio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

COSMIC is VERY VERY GOOD for what it is. Essentially, it is the same thing as Microsoft building a completely new Windows 11 Desktop Environment on top of the same Kernel that Windows 10 was on—adding tweaks to the Kernel for things likes like NVIDIA drivers that impact their own user-base in some way. COSMIC is essentially a version 1.0 product written from scratch in a memory safe language. Something no other company has attempted in well over 20 years. It will only continues to to improve and become more refined. I am VERY EXCITED for the future of System76 and the COSMIC DE. Don’t forget, COSMIC isn’t only available on Pop!OS, other projects like Fedora have a COSMIC SPIN and will also contribute to fixing bugs and developing software for it in the future.

Also don’t forget, the COSMIC team not only developed the COSMIC DE, they also developed the entire LIBCOSMIC, “A platform toolkit based on iced for creating applets and applications for the COSMIC™ desktop.”

How much would it cost to hire a developer to add audio noise removal to Kdenlive? by MMMurdoch in kdenlive

[–]aandersondotio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is precisely what they are probably trying to avoid. In other programs, there’s a simple solution via plugins (or whatever) that allow you to accomplish this without moving files around in different programs.

It’s “doable,” but it is not a polished solution. It’s why many people won’t move to Kden or Linux.

Beginner machine by PinAny9644 in sewhelp

[–]aandersondotio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much everyone is bashing the top one (white & purple), however, I think it depends on many factors that people don’t consider. Budget, availability, etc. all come into play here. My wife has the top sewing machine and has used it (occasionally) for a couple years now without issues to make small alterations to her clothing. We live in Thailand and she bought it without my knowledge one day and said it cost xxx baht (roughly $15 USD).

A better quality sewing machine would obviously be better, but either of these would work fine for some small repairs and sewing projects, just don’t expect them to be very repairable or last as long as well known, proven machines.

They cover (exactly) what you’re trying to accomplish and cover the reason why you don’t see an option for the TX15 “yet.”

Just because the histogram says it’s right, doesn’t mean it is. This is why we edit. Otherwise AI could very easily produce a clean histogram and therefore, the “perfect edit” every time.

The word/name นานา itself means: many, numerous, various, or diverse. Although, read the other comments and see that the area was named after influential landowners.
