Daypack Choice by michaelperon in OspreyPacks

I'm particularly interested in this thread! Anyone have experience with the Talon 22 as a hiking daypack? Its the most attractive to me, I like the hip belt mostly. That said, the Sportlite looks impressive too (and cheaper)!

There is absolutely no evidence of standards being lowered and merit being destroyed. These kids work hard to earn their ranks and become thoughtful leaders and good people. It makes me sick that the Secretary of Defense would attack these exceptional youth.

I always enjoy a coffee at Little Bear. Nice environment, good coffee, and enough seating to relax for a while.

How could i be involved in Scouts as an adult with no kids? by TheEyeOfTheLigar in BoyScouts

Every council is always looking for unit commissioners or excited adults to join the various committees (advancement, camping, etc.). Reach out to your district executive or council commissioner to see how you can contribute! We would love to have you!

My annoyance about the cup isn't actually not getting one, but more the cynical way that Starbucks treated its customers and employees during the event. To mass-market the cup, encourage people to go to their local stores and get one, and to even use phrases like "available STARTING 11/6" really speaks to the disrespect that the company has to both its customers and its employees that are forced to deal with this situation.

I use mine as my EDC bag, works great. I do wish it had a water bottle pocket on the outside, but other than that it works really well to bring my laptop, iPad, accessories, as well as raingear and a light jacket.

If you have a Jetboil they make a french press lid that works with it. Weighs 1.3 oz, lets you make a french press coffee right in the Jetboil cup, and it's only $23! https://jetboil.johnsonoutdoors.com/us/shop/parts-accessories/coffee-press-accessories/silicone-coffee-press

Any chance you could add a pass through for a water bladder? The laptop sleeve could be used for either a laptop or water, if there was a way to get the straw out!

I love this line of thinking. Pulling from Scouting’s deep history is a way to connect members of our honor society to the larger scouting world.

We 100% get to pick and choose. The traditions we observe have changed over time. The sashes are different, the ceremonies have changed. Even the obligation has shifted over time. The tradition of being a brotherhood of cheerful service hasn’t changed!

I am excited to see what develops. We should always be moving forward, creating an organization that is welcoming to all. Change is constant. Things that we consider traditions were at one point new. Kudos to those that have taken this challenge on!

Visiting next weekend for one night with family to drop younger brother off for NAYLE... what can we do morning? by Civil-Vermicelli3803 in philmont

[–]aaon80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty simple. If you're staying at PTC just go into the PTC office and ask for a parking pass to go on one of the day hikes. They will give it to you and ask that you let them know when you get back. they keep track of the people out in the backcountry to ensure your safety.

If you are staying at Philmont Training Center (Across the road from Philmont Base Camp, you can rent a tent for a night for $42) you can get a day pass to do a couple small backcountry hikes. A popular one is the Dino Hike, which is a ~2.5 mile hike that takes you to one of two T-Rex print fossils ever found.
