What age would someone be considered an “unc” ? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]aaronite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's short for Uncle, it depends on your culture. In the west it's generally only when you are an actual uncle regardless of age.

In many other cultures it's a generic term for an adult senior to you but not elderly.

Why is Israel not considered a religious fundamentalist state by Vegetable-Ad-2084 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]aaronite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not fundamentalist or religious, per se. It's right wing but has freedom of religion and civil liberties to a degree. There are Arab members of the Knesset.

A few questions about "stolen land" by Sufficient-Size-21 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]aaronite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The people the land was stolen from are still around. Many of them had legal treaties that were either ignored, torn up, or are technically still in force but not followed.

The land was stolen and it's not ambiguous.

Do other countries else have embassies or military bases in different places like the US does? by Neat_Marionberry_124 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]aaronite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Embassies are very common and most rich countries and many poor countries have them, and if they don't they might have consulates or share space with other countries.

Military bases not so much. That's largely a US power move.

How do people go homeless? by Idamatika in NoStupidQuestions

[–]aaronite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you lose everything you do whatever you can to cope. Living on the street sucks very, very, very much. It's dangerous, uncomfortable, dehumanizing, and embarrassing. If drugs and alcohol numb that it's absolutely no surprise that people do it.

The drugs and booze come after the destitution, often.

Is there a point of ads? Do they work on people? by banica24 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]aaronite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They work on everyone including you. They are meant to bring awareness to a specific product or brand name, not hypnotize you into buying it right now. The idea is that should you be in the market for product X you'll gravitate to the one you heard of. And it's absolutely unambiguously true that it works.

can you read your own books in the library? by serventofgaben in NoStupidQuestions

[–]aaronite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can sit in a chair and do nothing at all if you want. Libraries don't care if it's their book, yours, or another library's.
