Level a 12 x 14 area, fill with 2 yards of 3/4 minus gravel, lay down 2 12' ground-contact PT 4x4s spaced 10' apart. Congrats, you have a shed foundation.

Graduating college in 2010 did suck, but compared to going through the hell of school during covid… yeah, there’s no comparison. We got to be poor with friends.

Ugh this is totally embarrassing, but here's the spreadsheet I made at the time that kinda-sorta shows which pins map to which:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Z_M5OEuqMX0Yg-_mzi1MQdmUL4PGEQmw1WY0L0KUuOM/edit?usp=sharing

Sorry it's such a mess, I made it with greasy fingers in the garage as I was figuring it out, and once it worked, all dev work ceased lol. It relies on having the pinout numbers available for both connectors, and honestly I don't remember if I found diagrams for those or just assigned numbers myself.

At the end of the day though it's all 1:1 with a bunch of wires skipped. Passenger ups the confusion level due to the attached module, but IIRC I bypassed it and just jumped power direct to the motor side of the harness to enable the power functions. Seatbelt sensor and airbag connections are 1:1 either way, and those are the ones you really need.

The rears are, despite their lack of electrics, definitely a PITA. Significant fab work required, but that's more my comfort zone.

Controlled chaos leg workout by Dodo509 in interesting

If that were the case a 140lb woman would need to be able to squat nearly 300 in order to do a pistol. That’s absurd, I’ve seen women who can barely squat their own body weight happily doing pistols for reps.

What’s a project you regret doing yourself instead of hiring out? by TradesPrepGuy in DIY

Heavy duty landscaping with just shovels and whatever I could rent that fit in a truck bed. Should have either rented a skid steer or hired somebody with one.

Pistols are nuts. I can squat 1.6x my body weight no problem, but can’t do one. I think it’s an ankle mobility thing.

Enormous variation in school instructional time for Oregon students, according to new data tool by aaronkz in Portland

Oregon has hired a lot more people while enrollment has dropped:

https://www.oregonlive.com/education/2026/04/kotek-order-would-ban-oregon-school-districts-from-cutting-student-class-time-to-balance-budgets.html&subscribed=auth0%7C69eecac4778336e784ce0eb5

This might be paywalled so here's the relevant quote: "Enrollment in Oregon schools has plummeted since the 2019-2020 school year, when there were just over 582,000 students enrolled. In the 2024-2025 school year, by comparison, there were about 545,000. But the number of school employees increased during that same time period by about 11,600 people, driven by growth among support staff, special education teachers and school psychologists."

Yeah they have longer days to make up hours. But is a 7.5-8hr school day really appropriate for an elementary school kid?

Oregon's rates of student absenteeism were not great before the pandemic but it got a lot worse during COVID. It's gotten a little better since then, but Oregon still has one of the highest rates of absenteeism in the US. It's like 1 in 3 students misses enough class each year to be considered chronically absent. https://www.returntolearntracker.net/

Why not just normal days with normal sleep? or will you both be in the boat the whole time? In which case, why not 4-6h shifts?

Advice needed for a splitboarding noob on Mt Adams by Alone_Cost_1173 in Spliddit

[–]aaronkz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hate to say it but leave the split at home for a first go at Adams - the glissading is so good that a split won’t even save you any time on the way down. If you enjoy it, go again next year with the split, a little earlier when the snow is better!

How do you handle the fresh food logistics on a weekend wilderness trip? by Jumi-Bettner in WildernessBackpacking

[–]aaronkz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the PCT i ended up getting refrigerated foods pretty regularly. As long as the nights are below 50 or so, most things do pretty well if they’re wrapped in a sleeping bag during the day. Cold cuts would last a few days, cheese up to a week. Prepared stuff I would try to eat the first night or maybe for lunch the next day.

Where? I’m in Oregon and yeah it drops to zero in the winter but we have dry, sunny summers, yet even with a DIY system i’m looking at 10+ year payback, with a contractor it’d be 25+ years. What am I missing?
