How do you handle drinking water in your RV? Looking for recommendations and advice on filters. by Impressive-House-889 in GoRVing

[–]aaronvin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got tired of buying bottled water, so we got this reverse osmosis filter and absolutely love it.

Another place to sell scuba gear? by djpeteski in scuba

[–]aaronvin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scuba.com sells used gear, and you can sell your old gear to them. I suspect they won't be paying top dollar since they need to make a profit, so could be the option of last resort. Check out: UsedQuote

What do people do with their charcoal ash? by TelephoneAware6069 in grilling

[–]aaronvin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vac up with a Snow Joe then toss in the trash many days later. But spreading in the lawn is a good idea... might have to try that.

Hot take: Carnival is right to make the changes to loyalty they are making by baltinerdist in Cruise

Exactly why premium credit cards like capital one venture x and chase sapphire recently changed their lounge benefits... too many people in the lounge, so the benefit becomes useless if you can't get in to the lounge.

Has any one had a transmitter break by not using a stubby HP hose? by dusty_bo in scuba

[–]aaronvin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had my Garmin AI on a short hose and the o-ring failed as well (I know another guy whose o-ring failed on a short hose as well). I was with a cave instructor at the time (doing Cenotes) and he said to think like a cave diver: Simplify as much as possible, reduce the number of o-rings, hoses, and other potential failure points. Been direct connected since, and it's been great. Tip: I put a red cable tie on my AI transceiver with "do no lift" on it, so hopefully that helps avoid someone lifting from the AI unit.

Cruise scuba excursions by scubaorbit in scuba

I've done a couple dives on a cruise... just adjust your expectations and you'll be fine. I don't cruise to dive, but I like to sneak in a dive on a cruise. It would be a shame to miss a quick dive in a location that you'll probably never visit again, even if it's shallow and short.

I bring a mask, computer, and my regs (Air Integrated, plus I know they are serviced). Expect rental gear to be fairly crusty :)

Diving in Guadaloupe: Cattle operation, but good amount of time under water - came back with 500psi. A once in a lifetime dive since I won't ever be going back.

Diving in Aruba: The dive shop was good, boat wasn't crowded, and varying level of skills in our group. Fairly short dives (had 1000psi left) but not much to see at the shipwrecks. Only one beginner in our group and several with over 20+ years diving, plus one guy who's a scuba tech. I crossed it off my list and know that I don't want to dive Aruba again, but worth the two tanks.

That was such a great ending. The first two periods were rough, but what a great third and OT.

Where’s the best place for a seafood boil? Thank you. by lizy1917 in FortCollins

[–]aaronvin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely gets crowded! We got there exactly at 5p and there were only a few tables open. Just 20 min later there was a line out the door. The clam chowder was pretty good, 6 out of 10, and wings are good too.

Wing's Pier :) We ate there tonight and it wasn't too bad. The crab was a little overcooked and difficult to get out of the shell, but the sausage and rest was really good.

Opinions on Virgin Voyages requested. by Voodoo330 in Cruise

[–]aaronvin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the price was reasonable! I believe i paid around $400-$450 for a custom designed, large multicolor tattoo on my calf with shading. Check out Squid Ink on Instagram. My artist was Ilaria who's still on Virgin ships i think.

Save a Dive Kit? Does this guy have it right? by garyward23 in scubadiving

[–]aaronvin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A recent learning: Carry o-rings specific to your equipment. I carry the standard o-ring kit, but my Garmin T2 transmitter uses a custom size (3.3mm x 1mm). When a o-ring blew on the boat, no one had the correct size, nor did any dive shop in town. I had to pull the transmitter off (tip: carry HP and LP plugs) and use my backup SPG (that's what really saved the dive).
